I made a deal with the devil. Turns out, my soul wasn't the only thing she was after.
Jane Dunham promised me she was going to help me find my father in the magical prison my grandparents put him in. In return, I let her live.
Now, as I chase after her, I have to continue to lie to the people that matter the most to me. When I do find her, I'm not the only one, and the fairy with a voice that makes imaginary spiders crawl up my skin makes me do something even worse than selling my soul.
Stuck with my sworn enemy in one head, finding my father is no longer an issue. What comes after might just make me regret having let Jane live.
But by then, as is the case with most bad decisions, it will be too late...
I really didn’t enjoy this book. Winter just made bad decision after bad decision. Then there was the pathetic guilt and pity parties to go through. Didn’t like her at all in this book, and she was just weird. Gets weirder each book to me. Started getting somewhat interesting at the end, which was a cliffhanger of course. But, I just don’t find myself caring about what happens.

Yes it's because of the story and it could be just me and my mood at the time but I was pissed about Winters actions and how naively she trusted the villain. At this time I've finished the series and the trust issues (not with the same person) continue in the last book, Bone Fairy, but it's more excuseable.
Unfortunately, I’m in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time or ability right now to do better - even though the book definitely deserves it.
Bottom line: DN Hoxa’s Bone Prison (Winter Wayne Book 5) is a wonderful addition to a fantastic series, and easily worth five stars. This was one truly fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted, was well written, with excellent world building and a great plot full of magic and adventure. I simply adored its lead Winter and how she takes on everything (sharing your head with an enemy: okey-dokey) to find her father. She and cast of supporting characters (hello Julian) were simply superb. What more I could one ask for?
Highly recommended with two caveats. First is that, while you could read this standalone, you’re much better starting off from book 1. Second is that you’ll end this story thinking that the lesson “be careful what you ask for” is definitely true - and kind of happy that this book ends in a bit of a cliffhanger (which is also a warning for those who hate cliffhangers). As for me, I’m glad I read this book and can’t wait for the next one.
Very disappointed with this fifth installment. Sacrifice usually means everything. I have no words to describe how this book goes. It discredits the whole character of Winter and everything she's stood for. Why after all these books the author does this I can't comprehend. I want to read the next just because I've followed it so far and want to see how it comes about. Even after reading this series, against all of the reviews, I still gve it a chance. Disappointed is really an understatement of how it ended. The author already had plenty of fuel to go on for another book, but to do it the way she did?
Winter is back and the story is about her deal with the devil otherwise known as Jane to hopefully rescue her father. The story was full of action, magic and a lot of fighting as everything goes wrong. I loved the pace and the twists, especially the ending which I began to suspect was going to be wild. And I was not disappointed. Old friends show up too just for fun. I was hooked from the first chapter as expected and read it in one sitting to see what trials Winter would end up going through. Just a great story.
I love Winter. While she doesn't always make the best decisions (and who does????)her motivation is usually in the right place. I love her passion and ferocity in battle. I'm usually cheering her on, this book had me wanting to shake some sense into her. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment. Will her earth fam be forgiving or will they be self-righteous, hypocrital, prejudiced asshats? What becomes of Jane & her sibs? Julian & his court??? The excitement is always there with Winter Wayne.
This series is fun and I’m looking forward to the next one but I just wish she’d shorten the fight scenes. They go on for half of forever but they don’t feel suspenseful because we know what the outcome will be. The characters are becoming more dynamic and I appreciate that but I’m ready for Winter to come into her own with her powers. I’ll keep reading this series for a while longer.
I really hate Winter. She’s unwilling to even consider other people’s viewpoints. It’s all drama, drama, drama with her. Personally, I think Julian should find himself someone else. Yes, she lied to him to find her father, but she is bad for his health in my opinion. Julian is my favorite character. I thought I was going to like Syen, but he turns out to be a jerk too. Just one more book, then I’ll be done with Winter...
I really like winter but she’s so desperate to find information on how to get to a father she has never known she gets reckless. Instead of killing the hedge which she allows her to take possession of her body. The hedge witch knows how to find winter‘s father so instead of telling Julian what she’s doing she basically goes behind everybody’s back that is her friend and gets herself into a lot of trouble. This book was good but I’m hoping that the last book in the series is better.
Julien was an first class butthead. He wants to throw stones in her direction, although her decision turned out a little worse than she anticipated does it matter when he did the same thing to her. When she tried to bring it their attention to the crazy lady that was at their fancy shindig, they wanted to cast her out. No one listened to her. I wonder how all of this is going to play out. Will her father prove Julien right?
I love this series and I love an author that keeps everything real, no matter what the outcome may be. I will say that Winter has one of the most difficult lives that I’ve read about in a long time. She does do a lot of the stuff to herself but I’m hoping she will learn eventually!
Wow never did I see this coming. When Winter found out her father was a fairy and found out where he was at. She made a very difficult choice. Now what is she to do when she's of Royal blood. Also that she may have to choose between her father and the love of her life.
Just when you think you'll get bored with the story the twists continue. D N Hoxa did an amazing job of writing a story that is worthy of all night reading because you can't it the book down. Winter is that main character that you connect with, her honesty and unapologetic personality.
Of all the series, Bone Prison was by far the best. I love Winter and who she is. All the characters come to life and it is awesome reading. I could not stop once I started to read. Cannot wait for the next book, hurry up D.N. Hoxa.
The characters are believable, writing exquisite. I have read each and everyone of her books and I cannot wait until the next installment of the bone which series.
I really enjoy the series. I enjoy the people and the storyline, but at some point I feel like she is should, wake up and start looking at more than just day to day.. with her it's always last minute awesome fighting blah blah blah..
This is an excellent series I enjoyed reading it at times I have to put it down because it's more stress than I can take but I can write back to it and I read one book right after another
Bone Prison, the fifth book of the Winter Wayne series, is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited. This is such a fun quirky series, and Winter is a great protagonist. Another fast moving story line.
I am taking a break from this series. I did not like Winter’s choices. Now she has freed her dad and he seems as bad as Gallador. Nope. Makes me tired. Plus I like Bender. He needs a romance and love.
Wow this series has had me in the edge of the seat the ups and downs just wow!!! I feel so sorry for poor winter i hope she gets her happy ending in the mext book!!!
Really unexpected. This time Hoya has outdone herself. I really didn't see the ending coming and it is all I can do to avoid the spoiler. I hate spoilers! Read this, really!
