Kurt Benson’s cousin Dillon lived at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Kurt was coming to Colorado with his father on a business trip. Dillon’s father had often warned him to stay away from Danger Mountain because climbers would hike toward it, and never return.
Just before the boys left the outfitter shop, a strange group of men started out ahead of them. Dillon’s father had rented the men almost everything except their mules.
Early into the hike, the boys left the main trail so they could get a glimpse of Danger Mountain. And that’s when they saw some of those same men chasing another man up to the edge of a cliff. A shot rang out, and the man went over the side.
The boys screamed, and the men began chasing them. The chase lasted several days. Dillon wondered if his father would remember their secret meeting place, and would they ever be able to reach it?
Then, when the helicopter landed, it was those terrible men who climbed out. Dillon thought he and his friends were doomed. The boys were not prepared for what happened next.
Max Elliot Anderson grew up as a struggling reader. After surveying the market, he sensed the need for action-adventures and mysteries for readers 8 – 13, especially boys.
Using his extensive experience in the production of dramatic motion pictures, videos, and television commercials, Mr. Anderson brings that same visual excitement and heart-pounding action to his stories. Each book has different characters, setting, and plot.
Ten middle grade books are published, ten more are under contract, with several additional manuscripts completed. Young readers have reported that reading one of his books is like actually being in an exciting movie. He is also a short story staff writer for Knowonder, com Magazine.

After the adventure at camp, Kurt’s father decides to take him with him on business to Colorado. The idea is that Kurt will stay with his cousin. That way he surely can’t get into any trouble. His father guesses wrong. When Kurt his cousin and two others witness something they shouldn’t while on a hike in the mountains, things turn deadly. They have men chasing them, there are wild animals and the only way to escape is to climb higher. The twist on this one was absolutely wonderful. There is so much packed into these small books. I learned so much about hiking in the mountains just from reading the book. Because it is non-stop action I have several reluctant readers I believe this will interest.
Kurt visits his cousin in the mountains when his dad makes a business trip to the area. Kurt’s cousin Dillon invited his friends Pete and Wayne for a sleep over and hike. But nothing is simple when Kurt is around, so the couple hour hike became an over night survival event when the four boys witnessed a shooting.
This is an exciting installment with twists. It is a short, quick read good for a reluctant elementary reader.
