Ivy is a young witch who lives with her friend Jem and her friend’s mother, Ann. She was taken in when her mother died, a fellow witch in Ann’s coven, and considers the pair of women to be her own family. Ivy lives up above the store that Ann runs, and hears someone breaking in. Going down to investigate, Ivy finds another young girl…Kay…who’s desperately looking for a piece of jewelry to save her family from a band of captors that want the piece for themselves. Curiously, it’s a piece that Ann had the younger girls looking for earlier in the day. When Ivy cuts herself on the discovered item, things get even stranger as the being that was trapped within it is freed.
Thus begins Kiss Of Frost by Graceley Knox. Despite being thrown into this world headfirst, I found that the characters did manage to have distinct voices and personalities. The work is short but moves with a good pace. The erotic scenes are also well written, which is almost a necessity in this field.
But as I have mentioned earlier, the book is quite short. I felt like I was just getting into this work when it stopped, leading the way to the next book…though the ending was NOT a cliffhanger, thankfully. My other main concern was a usual one for me…I wanted more world building. As a reader, I was quickly thrown into a universe with witches, dragons, and werewolves…and I’m a stickler for wanting to know how all these things coexist. A little history, a little continuity…these things go a long way with me. All that said, I did find the book enjoyable and do recommend it for someone looking for a quick but fun read.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Romance Authors That Rock. All thoughts and opinions are my own.)
