When Helen’s best friend Teresa begs her to come along on a trip to Italy, to visit her estranged daughter, Helen has no problem saying yes. After all, it's not as though she'll actually end up going, is it? Or is Helen's life about to get even worse? In this fifteen-page short story, which takes us from a bar in Kentucky to the ancient streets of Florence, a series of unwelcome developments have her facing all those inconvenient truths that she's usually so good at hiding from herself. Like how she’s not actually in love with Frank. Or how empty of people her life has become. Or how she wishes Teresa did not have to insist on being quite so happy these days.
