What lurks in the dark is not always a monster. Sometimes it’s your deepest desire.
Long ago, Val made the decision to stick by his captain against mutinous shipmates. He has spent a millennium on Earth protecting humans as a matter of honor. He also made the fatal mistake of falling in love with a human boy who died trying to birth Val’s son. He’s sworn to never open himself up to such pain and guilt again.
Mackie was forced to run away from his family to save himself from homophobia and abuse. He learned to live by his wits and the sale of his body. He’s reinvented himself as a brat with a need to be dominated and tamed. He thought he’d found the perfect man in Val, only to discover he had given his heart to a vampire—one that pushed him away when an ancient, hidden war reignited.
As Val and his cohorts battle with their old crew members, he tries to keep Mackie at a distance from the danger and his heart. But Mackie will not be side-lined as either a soldier or a lover. He is waging a war of his own to win Val back.
The next chapter in the alien war is heating up. A deadly drug is flooding Boston, threatening to turn the city into a battleground. Val and the others need help, and one bratty twink might be the best weapon they have. He may also be the key to unlocking Val’s heart and giving him back the happiness he lost.
Reader advisory: This book contains scenes of drug use and sexual abuse.
Samantha Cayto is a Boston-area native who practices as a business lawyer by day while writing erotic romance at night—the steamier the better. She likes to push the envelope when it comes to writing about passion and is delighted other women agree that guy-on-guy sex is the hottest ever.
She lives a typical suburban life with her husband, three kids and four dogs. Her children don’t understand why they can’t read what she writes, but her husband is always willing to lend her a hand—and anything else—when she needs to choreograph a scene.
She is a member of the Romance Writers of America and the New England Chapter and credits RWA, NEC and the wonderful friends she’s made there with helping her become a published author.
Really starting to hate my resolution not to round up, because this one was so much better than just 3 stars...yet not quite 4. I'd give it 3.75 Stars.
There are good and bad vampires... the ones who want to take over humanity and the ones who live among the humans, love them and protect them against the bad and dangerous vamps. Several centuries ago, Val lost his human partner while he was giving birth to their child. He decides never to fall in love again. And here he is… pushing Mackie away because he was getting to close. They had a wonderful BDSM relationship and now it’s over. Mackie, a beautiful young man who ran away from his homophobic and abusive home, is now living under the protection of the club where he is a dancer. He is witty and a brat, demanding a strong dominant hand from Val… only Val packed his bags and Mackie had to move into the club to live. An undefinable drink does strange things to humans and there are people dying. They have to stop the enemy. Mackie thinks, by making himself useful in this battle, he will have a chance to win back Val’s heart. This is a good developed story, consuming, well written with a pleasant pace, no rush and certainly not too slow. Mackie and Val's relationship was put down with a great dynamic. Their scenes are delicious to watch. They both have well-established personalities.
The whole vampire scenery was great, it almost made me wish, the good parts of it, could be real. The story stayed strong and compelling, the plot was really well put together, it didn’t weaken. Overall an engaging read which I enjoyed very much.

Samantha Cayto is my go-to guilty pleasure catnip. Dangerous Dance is the second installment in the Alien Blood Wars series but can easily be read as a standalone with little to no confusion. However, I do suggest starting at book one, Blood Dance, as it gives more world-building and background and relationship lead-in.
Mackie is a go-go dancer at the club the alien vampires uses as their headquarters of operation and home. There's a war on the horizon with Dracul, which built over the course of the previous book.
Val was Mackie's lover, dominant, and protector, but he's pushed the boy away the entire time, leaving emotional distance after hurting over the loss of his previous partner, who died during childbirth. This lends the yummy deliciousness known as push-pull, will they or won't they romance.
What was a bit more surprising is the BDSM within the novel, which wasn't as prevalent in the previous installment. The power-exchange between Val and Mackie felt organic and real, shown in a light to be able to educate and remove misconceptions, while adding to their overall relationship. These sessions were filled with steam and heat, but also an undeniable intimacy.
The world-building is just skirting the surface, with the relationship building more of the focus. Alien vampires, which also includes Mpreg (a bratty grown male is the only proof, as this aspect is mentioned but not shown).
Even though it's not my favorite to read, we do get POVs outside of the main couple, from Dracul and the detective.
I highly recommend to those looking for a quick and steamy, addictive fangy read, and can't wait to get my hands on whatever the author writes next.
This is the second story in the ‘Alien Blood Wars’ series, and things are heating up. The two factions – those who respect humans as sentient beings versus those who see humans as food at best and are after world domination – have been at war on and off over the past thousand years. They are a lot like vampires – minus the garlic and holy water issues, but they do have the strength, speed, arrogance, an ability to command humans, an extremely long lifespan, and they can and do live on blood of various kinds. From what happened in the previous book (which I strongly recommend you read first) it is clear that Dracul is up to no good again, and Alex and the roughly 50 percent of the crew who want to blend in and live in peace have their hands full dealing with him and his schemes.
Too much passive aggressive drama between Val and Mackie. Wanted them to communicate and actually help each other get over their individual hurts - not just act out with sex. The Dracula villain story plot didn't advance very far in this installment.
The blurb does a good job of describing the plot, so I won't repeat it. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that I enjoyed this book more than the first one. That's a rarity for me.
The subplot with Dracul and his minions causing trouble and killing humans was interesting, but it was the MCs' relationship that truly drew me in and kept me reading. I was frustrated with Val for holding back on claiming Mackie, but once he did, he was all in. It was worth the wait, as at the end, they truly showed how much they needed and loved each other.
One thing that would improve this series is including mpreg. It’s one of my favorite genres, but I rarely find well-written books.
Val is Better Described in Book One: Val is huge and said to have more muscles than a MMA fighter. He's 6'5" tall, has black hair in a Mohawk cut, violet-colored eyes, pale skin, and little body hair. (All the Stelalux men look similar, with slight variations.)
Once again, there's little world-building. Book 1 provides minimal details about the aliens' origins. Because of that, you'll mainly want to read the series for the relationships and the erotic sex scenes.
I also like how the Stelalux are gradually including humans in their world, gaining additional support. I'll be reading the next book.
Val's insistence that he killed Robbie got old pretty quickly, and it was clear that even his brothers all were a bit tired of the martyr complex that he had developed. But it was a bit awesome that he was matched up with Mackie, because no one else would have been able to break through the walls Val had erected around his heart.
After all of this time, have there ever been defectors from one side to the other? Has no one been lured away by Dracul? Has no one realized that Dracul is crazy and has no intention for anyone but himself to gain power?
It was as good as the first one but I feel like the story is dragging too much. I am afraid that if its not solved by the 3rd book, I will stop reading this series. The same enemy over and over again with basically the same confrontations over and over again, gets boring after a while.
Also WHEN WILL SOMEONE SAVE MY DEAR DAFYDD AND...what’s his name the new boy?!?!. If he dies I will be so mad.
A very classic plot with very classic plot points. Not enough of the other gogo dancers because the classic plot focused on Mackie's dancing. And I question pole dancing to Linkin Park, most seriously.
