Winter is coming to the Shroud and is bringing with it conditions Michael's allies cannot withstand. Greenleaf's clan is at risk and must flee south or else suffer death.
Michael's mission for Slanaitheoir's regalia also pulls his friends and him south and away from Brackenvale's safety. With Clifford, Wrane, Ash, and Radha in tow, he ventures into the Abandoned Lands, a vast desert where he must face enemies more dangerous than any he has battled before.
All the while, Ankou Levent’s forces out of Elatha expand across Vros like a blight. If Michael fails to stop him, no one, not even his friends in the valley, will be safe.
Michael needs to become stronger. If he does not, all will be lost.
LitRPG author, publisher, and world-builder. ✍️ Currently celebrating the conclusion of the Fjorgyn saga. Join me for stories about leveling up, found family, and surviving the system. Michael and Clifford are waiting for you.
Much has happened for Michael since his arrival in Fjorgyn, the world he had previous experienced while playing an RPG video game but now finds himself living. It all started with his home being hit by lighting while he was immersed in playing the game. HIs death in the real world has led to a rebirth in the virtual wird. Since then, he has helped lead a revolt and free slaves, settling the community of Brackenvale with those who came with him, finding love with the man of his dreams (Clifford), and learning that he was the Slanaitheoir ... or the elvis savior and paragon of the goddess og good in Fjogyn.
Now, he is on a mission to travel Fjorgyn in order to collect the regalia of the Slanaitheoir, which has been scattered throughout the world. He is joined by Clifford and a group of friends as they travel south into the Abandoed Lands, which are really a cursed desert that is filled with no shortage of danger. As all of this is happening, the lord of darkness and evil is rallying his forces in order to take the Slanaitheoir off the gameboard so he can defeat all that is good.
Castiglione has done a great job of continuing to move the story forward. Michael's tale continues to be interestig. While he is developing his "in-game" skills, he is moving forward in a variety of fun and interesting adventures that any gamer would love. This book is a little bit slower, but it is very clearly working to move forward the story to set it up for the adventures in the next book. This one is full of surprises, including a peek into Michael's previous life in reality and the fact that gaming sometimes means that not everyone survives.
I am disappointed book 4 of the series is still pending and wonder if the author has given up on it. Other than that, I love it. Michael and Clifford are my new heroes.
I think the author improved with each book. The relationships, characters, plots, dialogue, etc., were all better as the series went on.
I'm hoping the author still chooses to finish, I've noticed it's been 5 years since this book released without a new one, because I think the series could end up being pretty good and it feels like there's enough plot left for 3 or more books.
This series would probably get more/fresh attention on Kindle Unlimited which is something I hope the author considers.
This is the oddest book series. I guess I have to admit that I do like it (I was annoyed when I reached the end of this one and realized book four isn't out yet), but I can't tell you why I do.
The characters are so paper thin. After three books, I cannot tell you one single character trait about the main character other that everyone, including gods, love him.
The main character is gay and has had a boyfriend through these three books, which should be a great thing, but because I don't know anything about the main character (let alone any minor ones), it's just ho-hum.
The setting? The world is interesting enough, a pretty general video game setting.
I wonder if the fact that this is LitRPG is the only reason I like it? Because it's about being trapped in a video game?
Connections to characters are usually what sells a book for me, so that I feel nothing for the main character means I should have dropped the series in the first book. I just can't explain it.
The story is well done and I like that the challenges in each book are different, yet all working towards the final goal. I was really sad about the deaths in this book and earlier.
I think as a Druid, Michael should be able to learn a resurrection spell at some point. :-D Though, I do understand that in a real world, there are real consequences of war and battle and it is good to have that included.
I really like the amalgamation of the characters having a real life mixed with a game interface. How odd yet interesting would the world be if you received instant feedback via notification when you became better at something.
I’m not sure if that would be more helpful or annoying/frustrating when you did not progress as quickly as you’d like. I think overall it would be helpful, as you could see the little progressions as well as major improvements.
Very well developed characters, excellent story development. I like the fact that he doesn't over describe the intimate moments between the main characters but still manages to convey the love and level of intimacy between them. The litrpg aspects are well done and not over done like some others i have read. This series is on my list watch/read/follow list!
Loved the story advancement with a few cool twists. I did miss some of the city building and hope to see it next time, but the story focus was a fair trade. This continues to be one of my favorite series!
I love that this is a litrpg that focuses on a LGBT character, and is still written in such a way that it's not the main focus of his being. This series is so amazing I can't wait for the next book.
Another nice continuation in the Fjorgyn series, although it is perhaps turning into a bit of an extended fetch quest. I am excited to read book 4, whenever it comes out, as book 3 ends on quite the cliff hanger.
Recommended if you’ve enjoyed the first in the series.
