Very interesting, detailed work on Soviet Aircraft, covering the broad sweep of ALL Soviet era aviation from 1918 to 1986, which is just before the 1989-91 break-up of the USSR!
Not just military aviation, this is a vast tome written by a Czech engineer who is definitely a Soviet era supporter, writing in an authentic style and positively spins all Soviet achievements and "firsts". Of interest is that this is not written in classic chronological order, or alphabetically by aircraft manufacturer, but breaks it all up into chapters in "Aircraft Type" - Scouts, Fighters, Attack, Reconnaissance, Bombers, Heavy Bombers, Long Range Bombers, Seaplanes, Commercial Transport, Military Transport, General Purpost Aircraft (that includes crop dusters/agricultural aircraft, in which Soviets led the work during the interwar period!), Trainers etc. So each chapter takes your through Soviet aviation history in the particular field. With such a broad scope it doesn't quite have the detail you might hope for in areas like Soviet Fighters of WW2, however the chapters on Rocket and Jet Fighters are very surprisingly detailed.
