Book Three in the hilarious and romantic Clash of the Tartans series!
The ascension of King James of Scotland to the throne of England has united two age-old enemies. The king is determined to stamp out the clan feuds that have led to centuries of murder and mayhem.
When his father is executed for assassinating the laird of another Lowland clan, Broderick Maxwell is unexpectedly thrust into leadership of his clan. He strives to resurrect his clan’s reputation at a time when change is sweeping over Scotland. He must also take responsibility for raising his 11-year-old sister.
Kyla MacKeegan is the daughter of a powerful Highland chieftain, and an accomplished sea captain who has plied the waters of the Hebridean Sea since childhood. Broderick is drawn to her from their first inauspicious meeting. But a union between a Highlander and a Lowlander would never work. Especially after Broderick accuses Kyla of smuggling opium by way of the Solway Firth and sinks her father’s galley.
Laird Corbin Lochwood is determined to avenge his uncle’s assassination by Broderick’s father and will do his utmost to gain control of Maxwell lands. Can a romance survive a sunken galley and age-old hatred?

Kilty Pleasures is a story that will sweep you away to 1614 Scotland and the adventures of two people bound for each other! Anna's well drawn characters easily come to life as we find Broderick Maxwell becoming laird as his father is executed for killing another clan leader. He is left with raising his 11 year old sister you will love her) and trying to keep his clan together after the blow left by his father. Kyla MacKeegan is an accomplished sea captain who has sailed the seas since a young child. Saying that the two's first meeting did not go well is an understatement! Broderick accuses Kyla of smuggling opium, which she knows nothing about and he ends up sinking her ship. Are you kidding? No, there are many twist and turns and a lurking enemy who is trying to take control of Broderick's land that had been on Kyla's ship. Did I tell you there is also a pet eagle? I have to say this story had a lot of fun parts that will really make you smile. Be prepared for an adventure as the hero and heroine try to figure out everything. Part of a series, this story can be read as a standalone. Another wonderful story by Ann Markland!!
A 5+ Star read for me! I loved that in this story I was able to witness Kyla's seaworthy journey. Kyla is the little girl from Kilted at the Altar, daughter to Darroch MacKeagan.
Kyla is all grown up. She loves her father and step-mother, Isabel very much. Her father has tasked her with the completion of a trade agreement he has just made with a man that will make you weary. She sets out on her father's ship along with this man and her crew. Treachery seems to be lurking throughout!
Broderick is now Laird of his clan and given the position of The Warden of the Solway. He knows his enemy Corbin Lockwood will probably be transporting illegal merchandise. He wants to catch him in the act. Broderick has a lot on his mind. He is raising his younger sister Lily who he adores. He also has a falcon who is quite impressive. Here is a man who is trying to redeem his family's name while also trying to be a good Laird to his clan and sister.
I truly loved this story! It does take you on a spectacular adventure! Get your sea legs ready for this voyage! This author is so gifted with her storytelling, she makes you be in the story!
After having read “Kilted at the Altar”, I was eagerly anticipating the release of this book. It was quite good with memorable, well developed characters, some of which were in the previous novel. The plot was different in many ways from Kilted at the Altar, which makes for a new and different read! We met Kyla again in this book, all grown up and surrounded by a loving and supportive family and experienced one of her grand adventures as Captain of one of the father’s birlinns. There is drama, romance that blooms into love and the ever present green eyed monster know as jealousy and treachery in this story. I really feel like this novel really deserves a 4 1/2 Star rating, rather than a four but since that’s not an option, I’ll stick with the 4 - 41/2 only because I felt like the ending was somewhat drawn out. It could have just been me. I read it in one sitting so could have been ready for bed. This is an excellent book, no doubt about it, because Anna Markland never disappoints. Check it out for yourself and give it a good read. It’s nice to find out about Kyla as a young adult.
Kyla MacKeegan has mixed feelings about her next trip. She is to captain her ship south to near the border with England. That is good and exciting, but the passenger she is taking makes her very uncomfortable. She is glad she has a crew full of clan members that respect her capabilities, and she can count on no matter what happens. Laird Broderick Maxwell has been made Warden of Solway. That is a very important waterway. Considering his father was beheaded not so long ago it is a high honour. He also has his young sister to look after. His special pet is the only one he can confide in when he needs to think things through. This is a very exciting adventure on the high seas around Scotland. Our heroine has a villain aboard her ship who has very bad intentions, he also appears to be slightly mad. She is going to have to draw on all her courage to get through. Our hero has his hands full with his duties as Warden, the clan and his sister. That's a lot for a young man. An action packed story full of danger, excitement, emotion and laughs. I loved every page.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 Third in this series of excellent books . Broderick Laird Of his clan sinks what he believes is a smugglers boat , however it’s Kyla’s , and she’s not very happy about it . Just a little background , Kyla is the daughter of Darroch MacKeegan from Kilted at the Altar , Book One Of this series, so we’re continuing a family saga of sorts . She is Taking a visiting Laird home after he concluded his deals with her father , unbeknownst to her, the passenger brings opium on the craft , Then hold a gun at her head until she does as he says . This is the point our couple meet. The plot continues and we meet both Broderick ‘s pet eagle and his sister , and let’s not forget the mean and dastardly Corbin Lockwood, he’s always lurking somewhere around . This book is a great read , I’ve enjoyed the whole series but I think this would be my favourite, it made me giggle in places , and I loved Lily , Broderick’s little sister . Kyla and Broderick are a really lovely couple .
Laird Broderick Maxwell has been made Warden of Solway and he patrols all the important waterways, especially looking for smugglers. Now Broderick is trying to repair his clan’s reputation after his father was beheaded. Ship Captain Kyla MacKeegan is the daughter of a powerful Highland chieftain who has been assigned to take the lowlander Laird Corbin Lochwood back home. Little does she know Corbin decides to smuggle items on board her ship without her knowing it.. Lord Corbin knows Broderick is looking for any chance to catch him smuggling and risks the ship and crew when he forces Kyla to run from Warden of Solway and make her out to be a traitor to the crown. Loved this romance with thrilling adventure on the high seas around Scotland with two very strong and independent characters. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
Fabulous! Kitty Pleasures by Anna Markland is book 3 in The Clash Of The Titians series. Anna holds me captive in each story I have read including Kilty Pleasures and her well drawn characters easily come to life and captures the era in which the story is set. I cannot wait for more of this series, although this book can be read as a standalone. This story has kindness, greed, death, an assassin, ship wreak, lies, kidnapping, drownings, evil, shame, misunderstandings, threats, teaching, embarrassment, caring, family love, bravery, theft, madness and of course love. Prepare to be swept into this wonderful story that you will not be able to put down. I highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed. Go back in time to 1614 AD Scotland with Kyla MacKeegan, Laird Broderick Maxwell and his little sister Lily.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I read Kilty Pleasures and enjoyed it. I did not know it was the third book in the series and now I want to read the first two books! The characters were well defined and nicely described. It was a pleasant book to read, perfect for my afternoon at the beach. The storyline was well done and I liked how it flowed. A tale of a villain, a hero, and heroine with no weak parts make it a solidly written book. The lesser characters were also well written and that helped immensely in the storytelling, they were there when and how they needed to be, very well done. I liked the storyline, it was not what I had expected it to be and I felt Anna Markland kept it simple and engaging. There were no crazy plot twists and I appreciated that! I plan to read more of her books. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine without outside influence.
What a wonderful story! It is the third in this fun series, but can be read as a stand alone. A young woman, Kyla, strong willed daughter of a laird and captain of a boat, meets Broderick, a young laird of a clan from another part of Scotland. Their meeting takes place because of a crime in which Kyla and her men were victims. Were it not for this event that would not have met. The story is filled with intrigue, a cast of interesting characters, and romance that simmers between the two people. I am interested in future stories from several characters, especially that of Lily. I really enjoyed it and recommend it to historical romance readers who appreciate a strong heroine. I read this as an arc which affected my review in no way at all.
Excellent story written by Anna Markland. This. Is about Broderick Maxwell and Kyla MacKeegan. He is a Lowlander and she is a Highlander from Skye. Corbin Lochwood was a Lowlander looking to do a trading business with Laird MacKeegan. He is evil and has plans for Kyla after he gets home. Broderick is the Warden of the Solway. He see a birlinn that changes course to England and try’s to stop it. Broderick fires a shot and the birlinn starts to sink. Now things start happening good and bad! This story needs to be read. Find out what happens to Broderick, Kyla and Corbin. Happy Reading!!
Having been manipulated by her father to captain the ship for Corbin Lochwood, Kyla is pleased that her father has trust in her abilities, but is not happy nor at ease with Lochwood. Having been appointed, by the King, to the position coveted by Lochwood, Broderick takes his duties seriously. He is on the lookout for a boat that will make a certain turn, unfortunately, Kyla's has been overtaken by Lochwood and is destroyed. Eventually realizing that she and Broderick have a mutual enemy, they work together to bring him to justice. And, in the meantime, find that a lowlander and a highlander can find love.
clash of the tartans book 3 in series.. Anna Mark has woven a wonderful story about Kyle MacKeegan, a woman ahead of her time. Daughter of a highland laird and Captain of one of her father's ships. Broderick Maxwell, Laid of a lowland clan and in charge of the Solway Firth. And Laird Corbin Lockwood who wants to open trade with Kyle's father. What seemed like a good deal turns terribly wrong. Captivating tale with bits of history. I loved it. I recommend this book to anyone who lives HEA and highlanders. Laird Corbin Lockwood is a very evil man and twisted through and through.

Again Anna you ROCKED another one of my favorites! I love how Kyla was the Captain of her own Birlinn. Kyla's backstory was truly ver sad but at the same time she ha a TRULY WONDERFUL Childhood (She realted well to Lily) Omg I HATED "Corbin" but I guess that was the point. I absolutely loved Broderick he he is AMAZING and is an "AMAZING HERO for a JUST AS AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL HEROINE!"
Little silent Kyla is all grown up. She meets her match in Lowlander Broderick. Unlike her parents, tis no comedy of errors that brings them close. Rather the plot of a nefarious knave. My favorite so far. Loved all the characters, including Aiglon. Dare I hope young Adrian and Lily come to terms in about ten years or so? And the dastardly villain gets his comeuppance, kinda.
Kyla is all grown up and she hasn't changed much. Still strong headed and determine to do what she wants. Broderick is in Warden of the Solway. Corbin is determine to bring Kyla under his control. This is a good story, suspense, tension and abduction makes for building excitement for these characters. Don't miss it!
This was an interesting story concerning a tomboyish young woman and a Laird of a distant Lowland coastal clan. They are thrown together by a member of an opposing clan, trying to usurp the coastal Laird's authority. It is very dramatic in places and has an astounding finish. Very interesting read!
Kyla was her father's only daughter charged to captain a ship with Laird Corbin after agreement has been reached between the Clans! Broderick is a Laird and being a much better leader than his father! Between a sunken ship, treachery and mad monks this story is humorous heart warming and one of the best!
This is a high spirited , fun to read romance. I love that the heroine has a mind of her own and isn't afraid to show it. Very well written and wonderful characters. I will be reading the others in the series
This is the third book in the series. It did not disappoint! I hope the author continues the story of Kyla and Broderick to include Colin's story and Lily. I very much liked all the books.
This is my favorite book of the series. I fell in love with Kyla in a previous book and was happy to see her as a grown strong woman. And Broderick was amazing too. Everytime I read one of her books and I think this one is my favorite, I find another new favorite!
I hate giving bad reviews, but this book tested my patience. I’m a very avid and proficient reader. I can get through a standard length novel in a couple days. It felt like this book took me longer than a week to finish. When in reality it was like 4 days. I almost didn’t finish it and I NEVER give up on a book. It just drug on and on with so much filler that there was no romance! The only reason I didn’t give it a one star rating is because it was very well written.
I liked the characters. They had so much potential but the whole thing fell flat for me. I hate that the best description I can give about this book is there’s a lot going on about nothing. I waited and waited and WAITED for the book to pick up and get interesting that I found myself even skimming huge chunks of the book to see if it got better. Not to mention the ending was the biggest waste of time ever. I regret dropping $3 on this book.
