When Josephine McClain finds out she is losing the only home she’s ever known, she doesn’t know what she should do. She soon meets Miss Hazel while walking around Ottawa, a woman who is building a reputation as a matchmaker to the Mounties. Within minutes of meeting the older woman, Josie is offered a letter to read from a Mountie looking for a bride. Feeling she has no alternative, she agrees to marry the man, but she makes a vow to herself to be positive. Ernest Keeler was a Mountie who loved his job, but realized he was lonely. He sent for a bride, and he was sure she would be the perfect woman for him. When he sees Josie get off the ferry, he realizes that she’s exactly what he’d imagined he would be. Ernie hopes his absentmindedness won’t cause trouble with his new bride. Will the two of them, with their positive outlooks on life, be able to be happy together? Or will their differences keep them apart?
Josephine has been told by her soon to be step mother that she needs to go. There is no room for her. As she looks to her father she is reminded he never appreciated a thing she did for the past five years. She has no clue what to do until she runs into Miss Hazel while walking around town. She agrees to go with Miss Hazel and marry a mountie.
Ernest is Bert's brother and after his good fortune of a good bride decides to do the same. Once he see Josephine get off the ferry he knows she is the one. The first few nights he forgets to go home as he forgets he is even married. Will this be his downfall or can Josephine make him see reason?
Another great story in this series. Not one of my favorites but over all a great read.
Terrible book. The writing is terrible. I’ve seen better writing from a middle schooler. The characters are not both immature and not likable. And the book left so many loose ends. Plus one character is sick and we have no idea why. And the female lead never goes to help care for her sick friend. She doesn’t even go see how she is doing! Terrible book.
This was a wonderful way to describe the what, how, when, and who of a new couples life. I liked how the story also included a little bit of the wrongs that they had in the beginning of their lives. Not just a telling of a happy, lovely, new marriage. No one is ever all happy, lovely, and no problems in a marriage, no matter who they are. Thanks, for including them to, it makes the story better. For no one is perfect. If a writer wrote a story like that, then you could tell that it was to perfect. Not real. It's better when problems are mentioned, for the story is written by someone who tells how lice really is. I enjoyed reading how she was trying to not do things, for she would be even madder at herself or she would start yelling, or she didn't like to do or think or do something because of how she would react to the situation or because of what she would say. I liked how the story was written to make it sound real. Sorry if I am not making sense. I'd like to say that the story was written in a really nice way. It was a really enjoyable story to sit back and read. Thanks!
I love stories that are in a series so you have the same characters from book to book. This series typically has 4 books per setting. Initially, Amazon promptly moved me to the next book in the series. But after book 20 it has been linking to books that are not the next and so I read this one after I read books 22, 23, and 24 which was disappointing. Also, the story raised the idea of mental depression. I wish she was able to give us some insight about how this was handled in the early 1900's, but I guess she ran out of space. All in all, it's a good story.
I enjoyed the characters. Josie is unbelievable. One ,I could either use some of her energy or at least she can come to my house and get me organized. She is so joyful its infectious. Ernest needs a wake up call. But I didn't get to meet the other Mounties or their brides. Left wanting to know what is wrong with Katharine and how does Nessie feel. Plus no introduction to the other Mounties. Also no hints at all about the mystery.
There were some really cute parts to this book but there wasn't much of a story. She kept trying to stay busy but never once went to check on her sick friend. She and Ernie had a sweet relationship but it was missing something. I'm normally thrilled with Kirsten's books but this one left a lot of loose threads. I hope things are tied up in the next three books. I still recommend you read the book. They are very sweet characters.
I have read all 21 Mountie books and have enjoyed all of them, some more than others. Number 21 was a little disappointing as it was so short and left you feeling you had just fallen off a cliff not knowing how you'd end up. When will the next ones, about the other three Mounties and their Brides be out for us?
I just love The Mail Order Brides series! I live in Minnesota & have experienced winter weather up North very much like the Authors describe in these books! Thank you Kirsten Osborne for your wonderful books!
Wonderful story! Drama, Treachery, with Love & Bravery winning the day! This book shows how even when someone is not perfect, kindness & Love can overcome our fears!
Is a great book and is an awesome series. Before their brides get there. The commander Timothy is murdered and Ernie goes in rank. The first two nights he forgets to go home.
Josie and Ernie are quite a pair. It is alway fun to see how they are going to interact when Miss Hazel gets them matched up. It was really neat to see Josie pitch in and befriend Lillian who needed a friend. I love this series of books.
Boring...😩 Sorry to say the scenario is so corny and so utterly outlandish till I found myself scanning pages to get some of the little details to read the next book in the series... Maybe it's me maybe I'm expecting to much...🤔😬
Full of energy bursting with laughter and striving to make friends and be needed in a new home. Animals and wilderness make a great background to a fun story.
As always, Kirsten Osbourne told a fun story. Josie and Ernie are a couple that don't quite understand each other but will have fun figuring each other out.
I get so excited when you women have a new Mail order bride for a Mountie. I'm a old man so I'm easy to please. Please keep writing them and I keep reading them!
What a great read and one I couldn't put down until I had finished every word. A great mail order bride story and with the Mountie thrown in even better.
Josie and Ernie. I kept reading because I'm so invested in this series and I really normally like Kirsten as an author so I kept expecting the story to get better and pull everything together. I also figured I needed to continue reading as I want to finish the series and I probably might need something in this book. How can Ernie keep forgetting he's married?? Strange to me... sounds like an excuse...
I actually liked the location. I wasn't sure I would like it as much as the more remote location but it was just as good as all the other Mail Order Mountie books. I live for my new book every other Friday. Please keep them coming.
After reading this series twice now, I can definitely say I won't even try this book in future. It annoyed me too much. Josie drove me NUTS! She calls work her hobby and can't sit still for a minute on her own. She is so work driven that she wanders about a stranger's house cleaning without even asking if that's ok. She also offers to cook for an invalid but spends 2 hours cleaning the kitchen before even starting a slow cooked meal! I did also find it very strange that Josie was bored out of her mind but yet totally ignored the 2 other girls. Kathryn is horribly sick and one of the other girls is caring for her but Josie can't make time for these girls that are supposed to be her friends? She ignores them completely for strangers? I realize she wanted to fit in with her new community but if she's such a hard worker, you'd think she could spare a few minutes and maybe some homecooking with a fellow bride to be.... Another thing that bothered me with this book was it felt like the author was starting to turn it all into a farce, making jokes out of naming characters. And there didn't feel like much story going on when there's a murderer on the loose! overview: Josie's dad is remarrying and his new wife tells her she needs to leave. After running her dad's household for 5 years, Josie has nowhere to go. When Miss Hazel suggests she marries a Mountie, Josie agrees. She's determined to see the bright side of everything. Ernest's brother (Bert #19) is happily remarried and Ernest thinks a mail order bride is the best way for him to get married too. Right before the girls arrive, his friend and fellow Mountie is found murdered. They keep the details to themselves so the brides' arrival isn't spoiled. Ernest's new bride is just as cheerful as he is and they even kiss the moment they meet (gasp, what will Miss Hazel think). They are totally enamored with each other from the first moment and can't imagine any troubles. But not everything is as smooth as they were expecting. Also, he didn't feel like the carefree, happy guy Bert described. It was interesting that both brothers seemed to almost resent each other.. This is a clean romance.
Ernie and Josie I enjoyed this adventurous story that had me captivate till the end. They are deffently a good match! This story had a very Happy and satisfying HEA!
I can't wait to read about what's going on with the other brides though I have my suspicions.
