This book is essentially the Ugly Duckling fairy tale masquerading as the fifth volume of the world-building Realist Hero light novel series.

I'm enjoying the direction has this series has taken after a superb start. This volume heralds the start of a world tour for our Realist Hero monarch. This is enough to be optimistic for its direction, but it has started to become more harem building rather than the statecraft, politics and diplomatic maneuvering that I've come to expect from this series. At least, it's a harem addition that's more of a political marriage that would strengthen the ties of both the Kingdom and the Mother Dragon.

It's really starting to become more clear that waiting for the manga adaption is the best option if I want to enjoy this story in its optimal form.

I like the fact that this volume 6 is about dragons (the masters of the universe).
The melodrama about the bullying of the Ryuu (Naden Delal) is a bit too much, too repetitive in the excuses and explanations. The confusing speech from the cube that is seeking death (the author made up) just makes everything even more confusing. The author switches without any notice between points of view of the characters in the story and switches back. The time used is also sometimes confusing (past tense, present tense, future tense, at the same time, switch back and forth without measure).
The deal with making the personal life of the main character Souma more important than his kingdom, his people and the whole Landa continent (new alternate reality world) is just too selfish, self-centered and self-serving. Yes, Souma is manipulative, calculating, and exploitative. Not in a sexual way, but his personal interests have cornered this light novel especially after volume 2. Volume 3,4,5,6 are all about his feelings, emotions, relationships with his future wives and retinue, so much so, the author forgets about everything else. It was degrading and demeaning the reasoning the author gave to having Naden (Ryuu) as a future wife and member of his harem, kingdom, retinue.
Good governance is putting the people first, nor putting the king and his harem first. Author is making a despot, dictator, authoritarian ruler who only worries about himself.
I don't like how the illustrator has made two versions of the new Ryuu character, on the cover, and the colored illustrations in the front Naden Delal (Ryuu) looks about 10 years old. In the only other illustration in the inside, at her cave home, she looks maybe 17-18 and much more womanly

This volume is better than im about to give it credit for.

Anyway. Light Novel, specifically an isekai story thats starting premise has always been the nerdy conceit of "how much better could you make things if you were sent back in time." But it seems to have fully left that behind now, and im about done.

Which in some ways is sad, we got a new harem member who got a lot of spotlight and feels in their own way unique. But Im calling them a harem member and not a character because she really just serves as an excuse for a level up, and for the main character to philosophize while defending her from bullies who cant see her real worth. Yes. It is that simple.

I mentioned it, but this was a half a light novel followed by a short story collection that rarely, if ever gives us any of that original draw. Exploring the concept of jump back in time and instead of being a high level fighter, monk or mage, you are just some dude educated in the 21st century with a habit of studying more for fun and the incredible world building were easily my favorite parts of the setting. And now.. well what it has is a still mostly wholesome harem.

I dont have anything against a harem story, or even outright smut. But its never what gave this series its draw to me and despite how it really isnt all that bad all things considering (particularly the translations which somehow managed to keep from completely falling off in quality) its no longer for me.

The worst book for me so far. The new fiancee could have been really good but I found her too bland. There was no real development in characters here. I think this harem thing is not for me. I can resume the book in a short paragraph.

Souma went to visit the mother of dragons. There he met a girl who was a different kind of dragon and was treated badly. He taught her how to fly. She fell for him. They decided Souma should become her knight and ride her, but by doing that they would also get married, so Souma came back home, and asked his fiancees, who approved. Came back, there was a storm, and a weird cube was causing problems. New girl rode there with Souma riding her, and a battle ensues. Souma cries "Stop" and thing stops. Thing tells Souma to go north to the Demons. Thing leaves. Souma discovers a connection between his old world and this one.

I think there are too many girls now. All of them act childish and, honestly, I'm tired of the drama. It's this book; I loved the previous one and couldn't get enough. There was no development in the worldbuilding, we were just given hints that, in all honesty, were not interesting. The reactions of the characters to everything were way over the top. This book was simply not for me.

Well, I'm done. Let's see how the next one turns out.

This started out as a very 'light' novel, with barely anything happening at all. It seemed more like a fairytale than a story of rebuilding a kingdom. However, after the plot started moving forward, the number of unanswered questions became irritating. Like the previous books, many of the events were nonsensical and overboard. Many things were unnecessary and repetitive, too. However, I liked the ending of Chapter 7. Yet, it just makes the story seem unfinished. If all the 10 volumes were put together and edited into a book or two, perhaps then the series would end up being satisfactory.

3/5. Este volumen no fue especialmente interesante. Lo único importante que se mencionó fue que el mundo de Souma puede ser el mismo que en el que se encuentra. Mushoku Tensei ya hizo algo similar, por lo que no me impactó tanto. Las interacciones de personajes y el harem no es lo mío, pero el mundo sí es interesante. Seguiré leyendo la novela solo porque quiero resolver las dudas y misterios. Si permanece un 3/5 por muchos volumenes a la mejor lo deje en espera.

A bit of a change from the usual politics, and more of an adventure with boy meets girl classic elements. It's interesting but it's kind of obvious that it's out of the zone of comfort for the author. Some of the bonus chapters definitely should have been edited in the novel between chapters instead of resting in a random order at the end, but at this point I don't think they want to change that way of publishing the novel.

I really enjoy this series. I really like how the process of changing a fantasy world came to a realist and how he takes his time to make it all work.
In this volume we finally travel to the Dragon Mountain Kingdom and get to read about it and the Mother Dragon. Souma finds out that everything he thought he knew dragons is not exactly correct. Meets Naden a dragon maiden. Now can he make use of everyone working for him to prevent a catastrophe.

I don't know. Im not sure I like the direction the story is heading. The first few novels were about the story, rebuilding a kingdom, with some adorable harem thrown in. Now it seems, it's all about building the harem and talking about marriages and his brides etc. It's gotten tedious. Now, I did really like getting to see different countries and Souma going to them and exploring. It's the only reason I finished this book. But, honestly, it's becoming such a disappointment 😞

Souma gets another one! This volume adds another person to his family in a most predictable way. I did find that whole storyline a tad bit on the cliche side but it's redeemed because of the twist dropped at the end. It's not earth shattering but it's enough of a shocker for me to want to read more.

Entertaining Read

Souma is heading to the country of the dragons in response to an Invitation. He becomes involved with helping a young dragon and dealing with a foreseen incident. Souma learns more about his new world. I like the action, humor, intrigue, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

It also rips up some pre-conceived notions readers might have about the world Souma was summoned to and its connection to where Souma came from.

Ok volume. It does help push the story in a direction (with a twist you may or may not like), but the actual volume was kind of weak. The cast is getting really large, to the point where it may be tough for the book to support all of them. And progress on the babymaking / love making of Souma is still very sluggish, which is making some of the interactions a bit awkward.

We meet a new female character, the supposed "real girl" of the cast, though her story arc with Souma is anything but relatable (Beauty and the Beast music is referenced in the story, and a Disney fairy tale is probably an apt comparison). I felt their relationship moved too fast, but I guess that's kind of the nature of these stories.

The enemy of the story was kept vague, and the resolution was pretty lame (although it makes sense). Not a very rousing finale. There's some side stories after the author's "Midword", so I'll take a peek at those, time permitting (Prepub expires after tomorrow).

Hal figures more into this tale, though he still feels like just a hanger on. I guess the story is going to start to revolve around more of the side cast. I just don't know that the cast is that strong or interesting to split time with. I guess we'll see.

The direction of the story I feel is still weird. The whole queen thing from a few volumes back (the time travel premonition ability of dark magic) hasn't really come back into play, but now we got a whole 'nother ridiculous twist about the world that we have to think about. If they can connect those two dots, it could be fun. Otherwise, the queen explaining away the fact that they chose Souma as King due to a premonition seems like a random dropped plot line / red herring excuse.

I enjoyed reading volume 6 of Realist Hero. It is more of a personal story, less about kingdom building, and hints a bit about the truth of the world and the so-called demon lord. Not entirely sure I like what it hints at, but that is very much a personal preference and not one too dominating either. A fifth wife is added to Souma's harem, but if harems are not your thing you would not have come this far into the series. Except for a bit of Aisha's behavior, there is also not that much silliness in this volume. Not much action either, but that is a big plus for me. All in all, a solid read.
