Anna Lynn had been the one bright spot in Mark's dark childhood, but her memory was intertwined with pain. Mark vowed to walk away from his billion dollar legacy and start his own life free from the chains of his late father—until Deanna moved to town and Anna Lynn’s deception was brought to life. Deanna was his only hope of moving on and getting that fresh start, but with plans of living happily ever after shattered by her sudden death, a complicated choice lies before him. Go back to his original intentions of leaving everything behind and lose all he has worked to build, or marry a woman he hasn’t thought of since the tenth grade.
Even after he ditched her without word or reason, Anna Lynn doesn’t hesitate when Mark asks her to marry him—after all, she’s loved him since she could remember. But after the wedding, she realizes going back will be harder than she thought. Her honeymoon in Montana helps her come to terms with the fact that sometimes promises should be broken and love can be lost.

I really struggled with this one. At 58% I was asking myself why I was still reading it and by 99% I was still asking the same thing. I did not connect with Mark or Anna Lynn at all. I thought they were both morons.

The story line wasn't very believable for me either. How can two people who have been best friends since they could walk all of the sudden not be after Deanna, who has been in the picture maybe two months, says something bad about Anna Lynn and makes Mark believe she was only in the picture for his money. Actions speak a whole heck of a lot louder than words and Anna Lynn's actions were the complete opposite of what Deanna said. It didn't make sense to me.

Also... how in the world could Mark NOT see that Deanna was only with him for the money?! She begs him to buy her a really expensive car, is constantly dragging him shopping and using his money to buy all the clothes, makes him take her to a really expensive restaurant where the most expensive dish is $400, picks out an engagement ring and puts it on hold for him to pay for and then proceeds to tell him they were getting married... really?! But she loves him and doesn't care about the money... yeah right.

This book just wasn't for me.

I downloaded the entire 5-book "The Billionaire Club" series from Kindle Unlimited. I read the first book of the series and, contrary to many five-star reviews, only awarded three-stars. I began reading this second book of the series and, once again, differed with many other reviewers. I recognize that this is supposed to be romantic fiction, but after reading about one-third of the book, I aborted reading and returned the book. I also returned the remaining books in the series. Good fiction demands believability, and romantic fiction requires romance. I found neither in this offering. As in book one of the series, the author has demonstrated that she has significant lapses in her preparation. One example is when she described the wood Anna Lynn had gathered to make a campfire as "logs." A log is defined as a part of the trunk or large branch of a tree. Even a novice camper knows that you need small twigs or branches in starting a fire. In what romantic novel does the groom show up at his wedding in a pair of Levis and, within minutes of signing the marriage documents, slams his fist into his bride's jaw, knocking her to the ground. In the part of the book I read, I found a significant amount of sophomoric writing, unbelievable storylines, and a poorly developed plot. If like me, you enjoy clean and believable romantic fiction, I do not believe you will find it with this author.

What do you do when heartache as a 10th grade teenager is thrown into adult life? Plus, what if that heartache was caused by your best friend who you would still do anything for? Anna Lynn was thrown into, by choice, this as her norm. The only thing both can do is seek the truth and let forgiveness heal their hearts.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. I really felt sad for Anna. She literally has the heart of gold. Mark is a jerk. It took me most of the book to like him. I could not figure out why Anna continued to put up with him. It did make me wonder if we put up with things for the hope of a better future. Love eventually does prevail but it takes a lot to get there.

This book was clean, and I always enjoy a happily-ever-after.

Good, but not great

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I doubt I will seek out another. Although the storyline had some interesting elements, there were also noticeable gaps (for example, who cared for Mark after his father died?) and much of the dialogue seemed awkward. There were run-on sentences, grammar errors, and misused words. The one that stands out the most was when one character was said to have been “implemented” in a crime rather than implicated- not once but twice.
I didn’t find any of the characters very believable or even relatable, and the twists near the end of the story seemed way too abrupt, especially as they centered on a character barely mentioned in the story.

Anna Lynn and Mark

Anna Lynn has known Mark her whole life. They have been neighbors for as long as she can remember. When Deanna moves to town when she is 16 something happens and now he won't even look at her. His 21st birthday is in just a few weeks and he and Deanna are going to be married! However, Deanna dies in a car accident with Sean. He has to call in the favor that Anna Lynn made with him at 14 if he is going to get his inheritance. She agrees to marry him! Will she finally be able to find out what happened all those years ago? Will he ever be able to accept the truth about Deanna? Will she be able to accept his condition of their marriage? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Johanna Evelyn.

The Billionaire's Conflict

This was about two people who grew up together but were torn apart by the greed of one female. They were neighbors and friends, but the new girl in town was jealous and made sure that he left her. Now several years later he is set to marry the other woman. But when she was killed with her secret boyfriend the lies come forward. Will it keep him from jail? This was a suspense romance with twists and turns in it.

Fun, sweet romance. The characters have a lot of strengths, and the story has a couple twists and turns that make it surprising. The love triangle also had a few twists and turns, and it kept me wondering what was going to happen. If you're wanting a book to read on a rainy afternoon, this is a perfect book.

Good book! I enjoyed the clean romance, and especially the time in the mountains. Some parts of the story seemed like they had been taken out- as though a piece of the story was missing (especially near the end). But the author has a quick wit and a smart sense of humor, I enjoyed the story and the characters and the writing.

Truth brought them together

It we was a poignant and heartbreakingly sweet story of childhood innocence. Their sudden separation, through lies and deceit, took them fourteen years to overcome and allowed truth to shine it's light over the darkness. I could not stand Deanna. There are a lot of those types of women out there.

Fantastic Clean Romance

I loved this sweet story all about loving someone for who they are, not their bank account, as welk as second chances and forgiveness. I loved the characters and their story line. Our experiences in life shape us, but tgey don't define who we can become. I highly recommend this book and authir! Happy reading!

Unusual read

I enjoyed this unusual second chance, enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience story. The ending, although eventually “happy,” was unexpected. The twist at the end didn’t settle with me and Anna Lynn’s change of mind not fully explained. The book finished and I wasn’t sure I wanted it to have the ending it did.

Star-Crossed Teens

Best friends since children torn apart by a conniving girl as they become young adults. This book shows you truly can be star struck by love but I'm the end true love gets you through anything. An excellent book.

Not my favorite book by this author. The premise was good, but the ending was a hurried mess. Maybe Kindle formatting hurt some, but it took me a few minutes to figure out the passage of time which occurred between paragraphs towards the end.

The Billionaire's Conflict

What men will believe and do for women is surprising. Especially believing what they say. That is what happens in this book and tears best friends apart for years. Good clean romance.

Mark & Anna Lynn

Misunderstandings in love .... What a big mix up. I didn't care for Deana lol! Loved how Mark recognized that Lynn Lynn was his true love after all.

This is a fun read, but the ending seemed a little rushed. More detail would have rounded it out better.

This story was hard to put down. I really enjoyed the characters and the story. The editing mistakes were distracting. I would love to read a story about Kyle.

DNF @ 35%

I tried. I really did. But I hate the female lead. She was a doormat who cries constantly. I understand as women we are often more emotional than men. But it felt like she cried every couple of pages and then gave herself a pep talk. And she let the male lead treat her like rubbish for no good reason. He even punched her in the face accidentally and didn’t even apologize! Seriously?! She just let him get away with not even saying sorry? I find myself getting angry with having to read any more, so I’m just going to stop.
