Black Light Suspended

Rate this book
Torn between duty and desire…

Charlize Fullerton has spent years proving she’s a strong, capable, professional woman in a male-dominated profession. As a DEA officer it’s imperative that she presents herself as tough. But on the night she goes undercover, that shell begins to crack.

Dillon MacAllister is a Special Agent with the FBI working with various agencies training their K-9 corps. When he meets Charlize on a joint task force sent in to take down a drug smuggling ring, he wants her immediately… not just because she is an extremely talented, intelligent agent, but because beneath that tough exterior, he recognizes the extraordinary woman within.

When their mission ends, he’s sure he has lost his chance to win her over - until fate intervenes, bringing them together in a most unexpected location… the most exclusive BDSM club in D.C. Now Dillon has a new mission: to prove to Charlie that bonds won’t take away her freedom… they’ll allow her to fly.

Suspended is a novel in the Black Light series but can be read as a stand-alone.

I have been writing stories as long as I can remember. I am an author with Blushing Books. I enjoy writing both contemporary erotica as well as historical books set in ages past. I love developing characters that are able to tell their own stories. My heroines are multi-faceted women who are strong, intelligent and capable in their own right but find a deep need to share their lives with those strong, sexy and dominant alpha males that capture their hearts. My heros recognize the gift of submission for the gift it is, loving and protecting the women that offer that gift. I enjoy sweet, romantic stories with just a taste of domestic discipline as well as one that explore the harsher D/S lifestyle. I also enjoy writing age-play stories set both in Victorian era where women didn't have a great deal of power in their lives as well as in today's present time where women still find their happiness is greatly enhanced in offering the gift of submission. My hope is that you settle back in your favorite chair and allow my books to entertain you and let you escape into another world.

I am a long time fan and lover of the Black Light series and Maggie Ryan has created a beautiful story with Suspended.
Charlie and Dillon are working together on a case, but they are from different agencies. After cracking a large ring of criminals, Dillon returns to DC and Charlie decides to take a well deserved vacation.
Her friend Martha takes her to Black Light and this couple reunites in an explosive and passionate relationship. The chemistry between Dillon and Charlie was undeniable from the start.
Suspended kept me on edge, waiting for something bad to happen, and when it did it was scary but oh so fitting for this couple.
Enticing and beautifully written story!

I give it a 3.5 Not a bad read. She is a DEA agent helping to take down a Mexican drug cartel. He is head of the FBI K-9 unit. Working together makes him believe they are right for each other but she turns him down. Later on holidays with her friend in New York she enters Black Light BDSM club for the first time and who does she see but Dillon the FBI agent. She gives him her submission and her heart but she lives in Texas and he lives in Virginia and the cartel has one more card to play. The sex scenes are inventive but the story moves in a very predictable way - in my opinion.

Maggie Ryan is a new author to me but won't remain one after this! Her story centering around Charlize, aka Charlie, a DEA agent from Texas and Dillon, an FBI agent from D.C. captured me from the first chapter. The storyline, plot and character personalities left me feeling like I was actually there and invested in the dynamics between them and their careers. There is drama, tension, anticipation, and adventure. There's friendship, insecurity, and of course BDSM scenes that just made my heart race. What a wonderful story.

Another Black Light!

This is the first Maggie Ryan novel I have read and it flows beautifully with the plot set up in the beginning of the Black Light series. Each book can be read separately however I am appreciating the way the books flow. This one will not disappoint!

This is the first book I've read from this author and I only read it because it was part of the Black Light series and I am just getting into them. I am so glad that I did. I was hooked from the beginning. What a great story. I loved reading about the K9 unit. It was very interesting. The whole book was a story with hot, steamy, kinky scenes added here and there.

Like I said I was hooked from the beginning. How the book started with Charlie going undercover was riveting. I loved both main characters and was so happy when Dillon wouldn't let Charlie go when he saw her at Black Light. It was the start of a great relationship.

I can't wait to continue the series.

This was a great addition to the Black Light series! I loved this story, and enjoyed every minute of it!

I really liked that, despite it being a super hot, sexy read, it had a real storyline and plot to it, besides just boy meets girl and sparks fly. Charlie is a DEA agent who has fought to make a name for herself in a male dominated field, and Dillon is the K9 agent who partnered with her on an intense assignment. Sparks did fly, but there was a great story outside of the hot sex too. She even made me tear up near the end of the book! If you like hot, spicy books that include BDSM, you'll love this book!

DNF at 31%

The story starts out with the female lead as a strong, kick-ass DEA agent.

But then the male lead, whose sexual interest she has rejected twice because their case needed all their attention, tells her she's unhappy and to 'go be a woman', as if just taking a break and doing entertaining non-gendered activities before getting back in the game wouldn't allow someone with breasts and vagina the relaxing and recharging needed after the stressful case they just worked. And then he names off the most cliche superficial feminine activities there are.

Wow, good thing a man was there to tell her how she was feeling and that she needs to get in touch with her femininity. As if being strong and kick-ass isn't feminine. And, given his interest, as if it isn't in his best interests to have her focused on being pretty as oppose to being career-oriented.

And, of course, she decides he's right, goes to visit her best friend and ends up doing all those cliche superficial feminine activities.

But under protest, which made zero sense.

But that wasn't what caused me to DNF. It was a surprise meeting between her and him at a sex club.

First, she tries to run away from him as soon as she sees him. This is a DEA agent who was just the linchpin in taking down a huge drug cartel and arrested the head drug lord while buck freakin' naked but her instinct is to run away when she sees an ex-colleague because they are in a sex club?

Not credible!

He then chases her down, pins her against a wall, she tells him to let her go twice, instead he forcibly kisses her... and this strong, kick-ass woman just rolls over. Cue the shyness, trembling and blushing.

Seriously?!! This is a woman who allowed a drug lord to cut off her clothing with a knife and manhandle her sexually to keep him distracted and now she is trembling and blushing from having a guy kiss her?

Not credible!

But it gets better. Suddenly she knows little about the BDSM scene and is in need of his guidance, despite being a part of it when she was younger and spending months as an agent prepping to go undercover at a sex party.

Not credible!

Given how thick the sexism was at this point and how cliche the development of the dynamic was, I knew the story wasn't going to go anywhere where I wanted to follow. Or waste my time reading about.

Dear Authors, please stop creating amazing woman just to strip them of everything that makes them amazing to fit them into the cookie-cutter mold of a weak, dependent heroine in need of a man to take charge of them. Try stepping up your heroes instead and creating a unique dynamic and story.

Do not recommend.

Great story. I loved both characters. It was a little predictable at places and drug in the middle but then there was an unexpected twist near the end which more than made up for it. I also really enjoyed how the book showed a “real life” couple who embraced their entire relationship and not just their D/s relationship. I really wish there had been more about the shibari. It featured near the start but then seemed to be mostly forgotten until the end when it seemed almost a rushed afterthought. That was the most disappointing part as I was really looking forward to it. Hopefully Owen and Martha’s Story will give us more shibari. I’m looking forward to reading it soon.

This book was ok. I always find shibari to be an interesting subject.

The book was intense at the beginning. After the situation was handled, I was obviously confused because I completely misconstrued Dillion and Lucy's relationship. I really thought that was the thing holding Charlie back from becoming involved with Dillion.

I felt for Charlie because she seemed so alone, unhappy, and forlorn. Not to mention more than a bit traumatized. I picked up the sexual tension between Dillion and Charlie immediately. It fizzled out at some point later in the book. Not sure why, but that tension seemed to evaporate.

After she went to see her friend Marty, the book took on a completely different tone. It became more lighthearted. I actually thought the situation with Dillion was going to be more of a struggle for her.

When circumstances and the tone of the book changed again it felt out of place to me. I'm glad Dillion and Charlie got their HEA, but given what she had gone through earlier I expected more from this book. Not necessarily a ton of angst, but I really thought they would have to work a little hard to make a relationship work.

Ok, I'm bored now and need to go back to reading something with an actual plot.

Look, kinky sex books are fun to read for the kinky sex. Don't end each one with a marriage proposal when the entire book spans like a week. I'm not that kind of a romantic and the whole thing gives me the ick 🤢

Dillon likes rough sex and trains dogs, an absolute wet dream. The man owns a farm and has a sex dungeon in his basement. I don't blame Charlie for essentially moving into his house the night they got together. But in general this lacked any substance or tension where it was just an insta-lust romance with some kinky sex thrown in. And lets not forget to have our strong female lead uproot her entire life and career to be with her new man, because that's a positive message to give the reader. Dude clearly has a magic dick. There wasn't much more to this.

Oh wait

THERES A FUCKING CAVE IN RESCUE SITUATION THROWN IN AT THE LAST SECOND BECAUSE EVERY ONE OF THESE BOOKS HAS TO END LIKE A SOAP OPERA. 🤯

Love, Romance, & Drama W/O a Nasty Breakup b4 the HEA!

I have only read a few of Maggie Ryan's books but I think I'm about to start binge-reading. I have realized she's the author of these novels I am coming across where once the couple discovers their love, that's it for them. They may have their miscommunications and disagreements, but never long enough to damage their relationship. The drama in her books doesn't come from tension BETWEEN the couple but tension the couple faces TOGETHER. It's refreshing to read about two people that just stick by each other, come what may.
Also I related to Charlie; her need to be strong, yet need someone strong to rely on; also her gravitation to shibari, the encasement, weightlessness, art & beauty of it on top of surrendering control. She was a brilliant character and made me feel empowered! Dillion made the best Hero and together they were amazing!

I didn't like this. At first, I was like ok, this isn't bad, but the more I read, the more I started to hate it. This was one of the cheesiest books I've read in a long time. So many things were just grazed over or skipped.

Charlie feels like she's been sexually assaulted to some degree during an investigation, but she gets over it really quick. She goes on vacation, finds out Dillian is in the same place she is, stays with him a couple of days, instant love connection, they can't live their lives without each other...then with 8% left in the book, we are going to throw in an accident, skim through what would actually happen in real life so we can cram it into the book real quick here, and then speed through the next 3% to try and hurry and wrap up their relationship.

It was AWFUL! Really, the writing in this one was so sub-par and the plot just didn't work. I'm really shocked at how many good ratings this one has.

Wonderful

This book is wonderful, and not just because I’m a kid of a Vet turned Sheriff Deputy turned DEA/Sheriff Task Force. I grew up with German Shepherds, Doberman Pinchers and Labs.
I know that it takes a lot out of everyone but at least this book is paying honor and respect to the men and women in the local service that serves the local community.
Yes, the army serves the country, but it’s the police and local agencies that protect your home and businesses.

And on that note... This is the first, but definitely not the last book I will be reading by Maggie Ryan...

If you haven’t done so, you have to begin at the very first book about Jaxon, Chase and Emma then read BLACK LIGHT. And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing...

Great work and looking forward to seeing more...

A lovely journey to discovering just how strong submission can make you feel.

I'll admit I was hesitant at 1st to read this book due to it being a series comprising of many other authors. Thankfully I Ignored my hesitation, this book made me lol, cry, and smile. I thought that Maggie Ryan could not top her Divine Design series and The Ambrosia Dynasty series, but I would put this book right up there with them. Dillon and Charlie have such HOT chemistry you will find yourself drinking down some ice cold sweet tea. :) I love that the heroine is portrayed as a very strong, both body and mind...independent woman. I love that Dillon not only embraces those sides of her but allows her submission side to be just as strong. I truly hope that as others read this series they will discover Maggie Ryan for the extremely talented author that she is.

I have to write this while I still feel the happy afterglow of thís book.
It gave me the feeling of fluffy warm slippers with spiky fudge-me heels, held together by strong, soft, white rope and a tongue lolling alsatian standing watch over them.
The story starts and ends with a bang, and in between you follow two strong characters providing a secure place to fall for each other. The play scenes are filled with steaming hot kink and lots of love.
I knew I'd get a HEA but did not want to get there...just a little longer, just a little more...?!
As a bonus you get to meet old friends from the Blacklight Club. It felt like entering through the secret passage and feeling at home.
Congrats Ms. Ryan this is your best book yet, and to Black Collar Press. You are gathering a group of exceptional writers.

Coming at this book from the wrong end of the series, means that this is a book I’ve been looking forward to for a while. I have no idea (or excuse) why it’s taken me this long to get around to reading it. I’ve loved Dillon and Charlie in the cameo appearances they make in future books, so I was very happy to finally make time to learn about where they came from. This book has a lower angst level than the previous ones – at least it does until you get closer to the end – and that made it very easy to read. I feel like I blinked and it was over, that’s how effortless it was for me to get caught up in this pair. I love Dillon and Charlie and I hope I get to read about more exploits in Black Light for many more years to come.
I read a borrowed copy of this book.

Charlize is on assignment and things aren't exactly going as planned. But all turns out well. She and Dillon have worked the case and have an attraction but Charlize won't let it go further. Charlize takes some vaca and visits her BFF, Martha in D.C. Martha brings her to a club but then surprises her with the "other" club which is a secret, Black Light. Charlize suddenly sees Dillon and she tries to bolt out the door. He stops her and that's all she wrote. Dillon has wanted to be more than friends but she wouldn't let it happen. And she also wanted him. What better place to get acquainted. He takes her home with him. Some surprises arise but all ends well. Loved the HEA. Another great story in the Black Light series.

This was a bit different than I expected. It didn't even start in DC, let alone the Black Light club. It opens in a Texas boarder town and a Federal raid on a drug cartel. Talk about starting a book with a bang. Wow! But don't worry. We do find our way to Black Light and some wonderfully hot play - with ropes. Yum!

I loved Charlize and Dillon! A beautifully dynamic couple. Throw in Lucy, and we have a fun story. I enjoyed the ending when Ricky was introduced. This was a group made in heaven!

But oh the ups and downs that had to be overcome before getting to the HEA! Be still my heart.

Beautiful read..

I have absolutely loved this book with a bit of suspense at the start then full blown romance in the middle to again suspense at the end that sometimes made you feel part of the story.
Charlize and Dillon have spent a few months working together and even though there was a connection between them.
Charlize who is trying to prove herself in a mans world with the DEA want to keep it professional but felt regret in not getting to know Dillon better. But after a chance meeting in the Club Black Light while on vacation that all changed.
The story flowed beautifully and I found it hard to put it down so I know it will be a definite reread..

just love reading Maggie"s books they are great, and this one is just lovely. I love the way maggie brings her characters together it really is magical.

This is the story of Chalie, she is in on a sting to bring a boss and its club down, they finally bring him to justice, but at what cost to charlie. She has a couple of weeks of and goes to visit her sister. Her sister feeling for her takes her to a bdsm club, there she meets up with Dillion, her friend someone she wished she had taken up on his offer of a date.
Dillion is a Dom who loves playing with rope, and seeing Charlie in the club means he now has the chance of getting to know her... on h

Charlize is a DEA agent. She is involved in a heavy duty sex, smuggling and drug bust that took months to organize and enforce. Her job has been her life. But now, she has been ordered to take a vacation. She drives to D.C. to visit with Martha, an old college friend, and WOW does her life change! Martha introduces Charlie to Black Light, where she surprisingly meets up with a former colleague. Charlie is fairly new to BDSM and kink, and watching her learn how to relax and trust her Dom enough to help her experience the thrill of submission was enthralling.

This is a very engaging story that is filled with excitement, new experiences and a caring Dom who just caught my heart.

Very Good

I've enjoyed reading almost all of the Black Light stories, but I really liked this one. It's erotic, yes, and has some BDSM elements, but it's u!ultimately about the relationship between the main characters. It has it's flaws, what book doesn't; but the hero and heroine are likeable characters who like and respect and by the end, love one another. Even in the BDSM scenes there's no cruelty or behavior that makes you question their motives. That in itself merits a good rating in my opinion.

The dog handler!

Agents had been working from many agencies together to break down a drug ring. The haul was better than expected. The Female agent Charlie, was ordered to take some leave so she went to DC where her best friend lived, who took her to a special night club. There she saw the agent she had been interested in while working back in Texas. He was into BDSM as well, only she hadn't played for a long while. They really clicked. The story is hot sexy and steamy. I hope there is more in this series.

Oh my goodness! This story is hot! Maggie Ryan captivates us with the drama, sexy times, and suspense!

Charlie is a DEA agent who is all work and no play. She is amazing at her job but is forced to take time off after a particularly intense assignment. She goes to visit her best friend who is determined to help her let her hair down! She doesn't expect to bump into one of the fellow co-workers from her last assignment.

Dillion is an FBI agent who works hard and plays harder. When he sees Charlie at Blacklight after their last joint task force assignment he knows that he can't let her get away again.

I loved this book! Maggie Ryan does a great job of balancing suspense, intrigue, and steamy scenes. She does a great job of setting up a potential future book which I would love to see. A must read in the Blacklight Series!

This is a story that warms your heart. There are two events that make you hold your breath but they just highlight the relationship between Charlize and Dillon. Martha is the catalyst for their relationship and really gets Charlize out of her depression and takes her to Black Light where Dillon is a member and the rest as they say is history. Lucy plays an important role and there are great descriptions of the obstacle course and dog training. The ending is beautiful and the whole story is one of the best feel good stories I have read in a while.

What an awesome addition to the Black Light Series. Charlize and Dillion prove that you can have a friendship, partnership and then fall completely in love with each other. I loved seeing the strength in the main characters. Maggie Ryan really knows how to build up her characters and the plot. It kept me interested throughout it and it made me want to actually meet the characters. It was a beautiful couple with great chemistry but even more about the journey together. The BDSM was there at just the right level, it didn't overtake the story which was refreshing. Still plenty of sexiness though!

I truly enjoy the Black Light Series and really loved this book! The story of Dillon and Charlie, two agents who worked together on a case, was actually heartwarming. They fought their attraction because of their jobs. Until one day they met in an unlikely place and sparks flew! I love the chemistry and interactions between these two. You just know they belong together. I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Amazing story and another great book in the Black Light Series

I really enjoyed this book, the chemistry between Charlie and Dillion and of course not forgetting Lucy was amazing. The scenes that played out in the club were so enjoyable to read (and hot as hell). Maggie Ryan did a wonderful job with this book and I can't wait to find out what's in store for the other patrons of Black Light.

Captivating, a delicious story

I was woven into this story as if Dillion had tied me up into an intricate knot along with Charlie. You can't help but relish this story as Charlie allows this alpha Shibari master. Add that both are tough federal agents with dangerous jobs. I won't ruin your reading of this masterfully written book. Thank you Maggie for another wonderful venture into the Black Light Club.
