Ladies & Gentlemen, Elvis is back in the building! My favorite hounddog, & his human parents, Callie & Jack, are crazily trying to adapt to Callie’s new pregnancy. Contributing to the mayhem are Callie’s cousin Lovie, Callie’s mama Ruby Nell, & the queen of malaprops Fayrene. When Elvis digs up a human bone in her garden Ruby Nell finds herself in the hot seat as the prime suspect. From then on you better fasten your seatbelt as the ladies of Tupelo go on a wacky, yet dangerous ride to unearth the real killer before the Sheriff throws Callie’s mama in jail!
While I enjoy all the Southern Cousins characters, I must admit Elvis is my favorite. I like the others, too, but the King in a dog suit helping solve mysteries is the greatest.
The writing – or perhaps I should say editing – has improved over that past few books. Webb is a great comedy writer but her occasional lapses need to be caught by a proficient editor. There was only one real error in this book (Kaopectate treats diarrhea, it doesn’t cause it) that I hope the author will fix.
With every adventure i love this series more. I feel like the Valentine family are old eccentric friends. Elvis is still a star in his life as a basset hound. The plots are crazy, the writing so clever that I eagerly await the next book. A funny romp!
These are my favorite mysteries. They are a fun read! Elvis is a hoot and I can just imagine him in his pink bow tie. Can't wait for the next Elvis and company mystery!
