Reviewed at Lovin'A Cowboy Romance

THE COLTON COWBOY is everything I’ve come to expect from Carla Cassidy – a great romance with a couple that is realistic and believable in their reactions to each other and the situation, a touch of cowboy life, engaging secondary characters and that ever-present danger of waiting for the next attack. Along with the continuing search for Demi, we’re faced with discovering exactly who the baby is that was left on Anders’ porch with only supplies and a note saying “She’s a Colton”. But who’s the Colton she supposedly belongs to Demi or Anders?

My heart ached for Anders, he’s already suffered an unimaginable loss with one baby in his past and he’s hardening his heart (or trying desperately to) against another baby that could be easily taken from him again. But sweet baby Bonnie makes that an almost impossible task. Add to the mix one rookie cop, determined to make her mark and convince her overprotective cop brothers that she needs space and to be allowed to do her job on her own. Elle might not be ready for the whole family and babies routine, but Bonnie needs her, Anders needs her as well and it’s so easy to fall for them both, even if that is a totally unacceptable notion.

The danger is very real, kicked up a notch or two by not know by who and why the attacks are happening. A bit more is added to the information about the two ongoing story threads woven throughout the entire series about what is happening with Demi and just how deep the Larson twins are in the crime hierarchy around Red Ridge.

It was satisfying and heartbreaking at the same time to watch Elle and Anders fall in love. Yet another couple on the opposite sides in that Colton-Gage ancient family feud. It certainly looks like this generation is going to wipe out that feud for good by the romantic involvements of several couples. I had a really good time with THE COLTON COWBOY and would not hesitate to recommend this story or the entire series to any reader who enjoys a good love story, a puzzle to fit together, a tight-knit small community where it seems everyone knows your business, some very real danger and a believable couple falling in love in spite of everything going on around them.

I own a Kindle edition of this story.

The book is okay, just doesn't have enough passion in it for me....But here is a highlight from the book...

Her mouth dried. “Wha-what do you need to ask me?” He walked closer to her and pulled a small velvet box from his pocket. He then dropped to one knee and held her gaze with his. “Elle, will you marry me?” He opened the box to reveal a beautiful diamond ring. It wasn’t the shine of the ring that held her attention, rather it was the shine of love that flowed from his eyes. She jumped up out of her chair, her heart exploding with joy. “Yes...oh yes, I’ll marry you, Anders.” He got to his feet and then slid the ring onto her trembling finger. “I know you can’t wear this in public until the Groom Killer is caught since that’ll put me on the hit list. But we know we’re engaged. And I can’t wait to pair this ring with a wedding band. I promise to love you forever, Elle.” “And you know what happens if you break that promise?” she asked. He laughed. “I believe I do know what will happen. You’ll shoot me.” She smiled at him. “I can’t wait for you to kiss me,” she replied. His eyes sparkled. “My pleasure,” he said, and then covered her mouth with his. The cowboy and the cop, she thought as his lips plied hers with heat. A Colton and a Gage. Name and position didn’t matter; together they had magic, and she knew with certainty that the magic would continue throughout the rest of their lives.

I am so disappointed with this story. I was really looking forward to reading it, because it is a romantic suspense, which means it should have some action. But all I could picture while reading it was a cheap TV series like Home and Away, with horrible acting and silly lines.

This is just my personal opinion, but it definitely did not hold a candle to a true romance or suspense book. I skimmed the whole book and basically got the whole story line. I like a book to intrigue me so much that I'm hanging on every single word, drinking it all in. I want to get lost in the words and drown in them, not be able to skip pages without anything memorable happening.

Overall to me this was just a cheap book with an okay plot.

The Colton Cowboy is The Coltons Of Red Ridge series and this book was by Carla Cassidy. A baby is left on Anders Colton's doorstep saying the baby is a Colton. Anders calls the police and officer Elle Gage is sent to stay at the house. The police think the baby belongs to Demi Colton who left town. Police think she killed by boyfriend who left her for another woman. Colton and Demi end up falling in love while protecting the baby. Coltons house was broke into three times and they were almost driven off the road on way to police station with a thumb drive they found in the baby's hat. A very good suspense and romantic book.

Well written
fast, easy read
strong female character
Plot! Nice to have a story line that isn't 100% about the emotions, there's something else going on as well. This is one piece of the puzzle, and I plan to read the other Coltons of Red Ridge books, so.. mission accomplished, Miss Cassidy.

However:
Heroes don't always have to be wealthy
It doesn't always have to end with an engagement/wedding/baby. Most people don't get engaged after 1 or 2 weeks.
Colton/Gage feud is clearly not a thing. Incomplete plot device.

A quick & easy romance. Read it out of series order (skipped this one and went ahead with the rest of the series). You don't need to read the previous to know what's going on in the main plot (with Elle and Anders), a few details come up about the overall series plot (groom killer & Larson brothers).

Not a fan of this book so far fetched to have the law as a baby sitter. Some action parts which saved it from being a total disaster in my opinion. 2.5 Stars
