Nina is looking to put her violent past behind her. When she signs up with the Rangers, a system-wide law enforcement agency, she hits the jackpot. Months of service in space and no contact with people is just what she wants.
It isn’t what she gets. Within moments of setting foot on Ceres Colony Nina makes the Minors Union Authority an enemy. Now she has to navigate the cutthroat MUA while investigating missing Rangers. With the help of a local and the colony’s governor, Nina sets out to unravel the colony’s dark secrets.
But if she fails, she might just find herself on the wrong side of an airlock.
Award-winning Journalist and USA Today bestselling author Jeffery H. Haskell thinks he should always be himself… unless he can be Spider-Man. Then, he should be Spidey. He’s a lifelong lover of comic books and science fiction, and he owns his geek status by quoting Aliens and Star Trek at every given opportunity. When he realized he could make a living writing about his obsessions, he jumped at the chance. With the incredible support of his amazing wife and spectacular children, Jeffery lives the dream of bringing his imagination to the page and on occasion, he writes about love and marriage.
Jeffery H. Haskell’s Intruder is a fun romp, and it’s lead Nina is being added to my list of favorite characters. She’s so believable in her flaws and drives and how she goes about looking into the missing Rangers of Ceres Colony, despite the odds facing her (the Miners Union Authority is really not an enemy you’d want to make, but nothing stops Nina), is both exciting and believable. Really this whole story - even it’s surprises (no, I’m not spoiling anything) - was just a hoot. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.
Four Stars is a book that I finished, liked, and I plan on rereading at some point in the future.
Why did I like the book? Honestly the book is a bit slow in the beginning but about the halfway mark the story really picked up and sucked me in. It was about the point that the MC boarded one of the ships and .. well lets just say it was awesome. I don't want to ruin it for anyone that decides to read the book.
Overall Jeffery H. Haskell has become one of my favorite authors. I pretty much plan on picking up his books as they get released.
The authors aim was to leave the reader with a smile at the end of his book, and he did with me. I found it to be an interesting and enjoyable read. The MC is a believable character who’s just trying to do her best at her job. Never mind the bumps and bruises that she accumulates along the way. Looking forward to the continuation of the series.
And hopefully the start of a new series as Haskell seemed to hit his stride with the genre past the mid point. Not that any of it was bad (other than his comma usage and tendency towards run-on sentences), but it was trending towards great by the end.
FYI, more than a bit of angst, a smidge of moralizing, and some dastardly villains inside.
First book by this author and I liked it a lot. Lots of action from the beginning and characters that you can relate too. Can wait to read the next one.
