Chasing Redemption

Rate this book
Audra escaped the clutches of Lysent Corp, but a new enemy threatens her freedom.

Promising to cure anyone infected with the zombie virus, Audra builds her rebel community outside Lysent Corp’s grasp and proclaimed safety. But their group realizes just how small they are when they meet Jack and Jill, who lead an army of zombie soldiers.

When the two kidnap one of Audra’s scientists to advance their experiments, Audra will risk her life and the fledgling community's future to save her friend.

A gripping dystopian, Chasing Redemption is the second book in the world of zombies, antivirals, and corporate greed.

Despite not completing algebra in high school, R.M. Hamrick escaped Georgia Tech with a degree in Biomedical Engineering.

She uses this combination of science and doggedness to inject a dose of plausibility into the zombie-filled Chasing trilogy. She ignores most of that science in the wacky, all-female cast space opera, Atalan Adventures.

She and her tortoise moved to Lakeland FL in 2022, which is home to Publix and a cute boyfriend. There, she gained cats and a balcony on which to write. Corey, the tortoise, is single and likes pacing, stomping, and tomatoes. Hamrick writes full-time with the help of patrons and readers, like you.

Oh me, oh my... I'm so ready for the third and final book! The twists, the cunning maneuvers, the surprises... this is getting good.

After reading the second book in this series, I'm excited for the third! I like that there were some new complications and a new enemy rather than simply continuing with the original conflict from the first book. This book has certainly set up quite a lot to be resolved in the final book. There was one interesting development that I'm looking forward to seeing play out.

I do like to be honest that this is not my preferred genre to read (I usually read romance, drama, and mysteries), so because of that I'm used to reading books with lots of dialogue and discussions of feelings between the characters. I'm not familiar with the dystopian genre, but the genre as a whole seems to be more action based and about moving the plot along. I'd love to read more in depth about each character, because I do like the tidbits about their pasts that are mentioned and wish their stories could be explored more, but I recognize that it's probably not typical for this genre and would only make the story longer. I enjoyed that parts of this story were told from different character's perspectives and not all from Audra's, and it gave me a chance to get to know those characters better.

Something I think is well done regarding the characters is that they're realistic, flawed characters. It's not as enjoyable reading novels where the main character is perfect. What's there to root for, and who can relate to that? It's easier to relate to a character if they have some kind of struggle or flaw that they can work on improving. Audra is a flawed character, and there are times when she frustrates me and I think "Why can't you just do X? It would make life easier for you." But that makes her far more relatable than a character who always does the right thing or says the right thing. Plus, when a character with flaws does get it right, it's a lot more satisfying.

One of my favorite characters in the book is Gordon, and I'm hoping everything is okay with him in the next book, especially given a few things they found out about the virus and the cure.

What I also really like about this series is that it doesn't use the typical zombie characteristics - it's an original take on zombies. That makes the zombies themselves more interesting and adds to the plot. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all gets wrapped up!

Love this book. It's a perfect follow to the first, with the world fleshing out... fleshing... in surprising but totally believable ways. The story is well balanced between hope and fear and I always rooted for Audra.

The second installment in RM Hamrick's Chasing series is thrilling from start to finish. It was only after I caught my breath that I realized somewhere during the action packed sequel Hamrick had widely expanded her dystopian world and pushed it in a tense and exciting direction.

Must read!

I love this, even more so because it's outside my usual genre.
Check out this awesome series by an amazing prolific independent writer.
