After laying waste to the orcish forces that threatened the Forest of Jura, Rimuru’s group now faces Gelmud and the dreaded orc lord. And with some encouragement from Gelmud, the orc lord evolves into his ultimate form: The Orc Disaster! Could this new and fearsome foe outmatch Rimuru’s razor-sharp wits and unimaginable power? Or will The Orc Disaster dine upon slime with a side of kijin in the climax of the forest war arc?
This was a really good volume! I like the fight scenes but honestly I'm mostly here for them building the monster city and living together in harmony parts. That's the best.
2 starts only cause I don’t think I like where the story is going so far there is no major challenge for the main character 5 books in and lord rimiru is feeling a bit op making it not as fun to read.
Super satisying volume, with the conclusion of the orc army arc, and the creation of a Jura Forest alliance with Rimuru as the chair.
Was great to get to know more of the background behind the "mindless" orcs, and see how they became what they did - and how they can recover from the trauma in the volumes to come.
Really looking forward to seeing how Rimuru's home evolves as time goes on. 10,000 strong and counting!
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy)
With the Orc Lord right before Rimuru the battle against the hordes of Orcs is coming to a climax. With the prompting of the villainous Gelmud the Orc Lord evolves further to become a new demon lord called the Orc Disaster. Now even more insanely powerful then before and much more focused then as the Orc Lord Rimuru alone has any chance of defeating his newly evolved enemy (checkout what happens when the "Great Sage" skill goes autopilot in Rimuru's body.) Of course with everything that happened there are consequences and Rimuru becomes almost Christ like as he decides t eat all of the sins of the Orcs so they can live at peace in the newly formed coalition which I imagine will be needed soon enough as the real baddies eventually come out and play.
Honestly I liked all of the action and such but the aftermath was my favorite part as Rimuru puts newly named orcs to work as everyone works on improving lives for monsters in the coalition. Only time will tell if humans discover this new society and decide it is too scary to allow to exist much longer.

This was a really good volume! I like the fight scenes in these manga but honestly I'm mostly here for them building the monster city and living together in harmony. That is my favorite part. I also love when all the monsters get their names. It's the best part to me.
Gelmud, the majin manipulator, is in over his head. His naming spree has left him at less than full power and the situation is now out of his control. Playing both sides against each other has left him with a powerful enemy in not only those he trampled but those that he was supposed to be controlling and it proves to be his downfall. His goal is realised but at a cost he wasn’t expecting. The ultimate hack move of this volume is Rimuru putting his combat skills on the equivalent of an autopilot setting. He hands control over during a crucial moment to his sage skill, and let’s that do the fighting for him! I can’t help but feel that Rimuru’s actual lack of skill is going to come back and bite him in the ass someday. He isn’t as quick-witted as he appears and someday someone else is going to realise it and his luck will run out.
Ultimately, the final fight against the Orc Disaster comes down to Rimuru using the most basic of his abilities. Basic being a relative term, as it’s his overpowered ‘devour’ technique. With the tension arising from the orc’s regeneration ability, the solution is a bit anti-climatic. Rather than sequestering the enemy as he did Ifrit or Veldora, he consumes him.
Which leaves Rimuru with one heck of a clean-up job.
I do find it somewhat unbelievable that the other monsters would be so welcoming to the others who were formerly their enemies. Sure, Rimuru is a fair and kind master, but all of these creatures were eager to serve even before knowing that. There’s probably a question of free will that should be asked at some point regarding how monsters almost instantly bend a knee to anyone who shows more power than them. This could prove troublesome if Rimuru ever does lose a fight. (Not to mention what happens when Veldora is finally free.)
Treyni certainly comes out on top in this war. She is satisfied with Rimuru’s abilities and appoints him Chancellor of the Forest of Jura. Suddenly Rimuru is tasked with finding a place for the 150,000 surviving orcs and displaces goblins. He has to figure out how to feed this massive quantity of monsters and ends up naming all of them. At this point, Rimuru is long out of names and ends up assigning generic designations like Mount153m, which is both sad and sadly practical. Not that everyone ends up with a generic name. The Lizardman king finally gets a name of his own and the power to reaffirm his leadership.
There’s a three-month gap of time at the end of this volume, glossing over the everyday life of building a town of monsters. Although we do get an update on the technology advancements Rimuru and his craftsmen are bringing to his civilization. The power structure is also enumerated upon with the kijin all getting titles and others are given specific jobs. A relative time of peace and growing prosperity before the next challenger arrives.
The extras in this volume follow the same pattern as the previous. Veldora and Ifrit continue their running prose commentary of events, which is starting to grow stale as it mostly just reiterates what we already just read. There are also a handful of gag comics, some extra illustrations, and translation note page.
The largest challenge that Rimuru had to face comes to a close as he defeats the Orc Disaster. The battle itself is a bit more fraught then some of the previous fights, yet the solution is no more complicated for Rimuru than winning any other contest. The overpowered slime remains overpowered. Luckily his subordinates are no slouches either and provide for a more entertaining test of strength. The real challenge comes from the politics and logistics of an ever-growing kingdom. Rimuru is already weary of the responsibility that is being laid at his feet and that responsibility is only growing exponentially.
Love how the story is progressing, fight scenes are captivating so the only problem i still have is with the overpowered main cast. Simply there is no sense of tension or danger. But still fun.
I recently finished reading "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 5" by Fuse, and I must say, the series never fails to impress. This installment continues the captivating story that has kept me hooked from the beginning. I'm thrilled that I chose to experience the story through reading rather than just watching the anime adaptation, as it offers a slightly different perspective and allows me to delve deeper into the world of Rimuru and his adventures.
In this volume, the plot takes an exciting turn as Rimuru's group faces a new and formidable enemy. After successfully defeating the orcish forces that posed a threat to the Forest of Jura, they now find themselves confronted by Gelmud and the dreaded orc lord. What follows is a thrilling battle that pushes Rimuru's wit and power to the limit. With some encouragement from Gelmud, the orc lord undergoes a transformation into his ultimate form: The Orc Disaster! The stakes are higher than ever as Rimuru must rely on his razor-sharp intellect and unimaginable abilities to overcome this fearsome foe.
What I appreciate about "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime" is its ability to balance action-packed moments with engaging character development. Fuse creates a rich and vibrant world filled with fantastical creatures and magical realms, all brought to life through vivid descriptions and dynamic illustrations. Rimuru's journey of self-discovery and growth as a slime monster turned powerful entity is truly captivating, and I find myself rooting for him every step of the way.
The writing style in this volume remains consistent with the rest of the series, maintaining a good pace that keeps the reader engaged. The dialogue is well-crafted, providing insight into the characters' personalities and motivations. The author seamlessly weaves together moments of humor, suspense, and emotion, creating a well-rounded reading experience.
While I thoroughly enjoyed reading "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 5," I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. While the story continues to be captivating, I felt that some aspects could have been further explored and developed. Additionally, there were moments where the pacing felt slightly rushed, leaving me wanting more depth and detail.
Overall, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 5" is a solid addition to the series, offering an exciting continuation of the Forest of Jura arc. Fans of the series will undoubtedly find themselves engrossed in Rimuru's journey and eagerly anticipating what comes next. I look forward to diving into the next volume and discovering the further adventures and challenges that await our beloved slime protagonist.
Mikami's life hasn't gone as planned – or hoped. Unfortunately, his life was a fair bit shorter than expected. The one bit of good news is that he woke up in a new world. The strange news? He's now a slime.
The battle against the dreaded orc army is finally here. What will Rimuru do this time, and can he possibly keep his growing kingdom of people safe and alive? Only time will tell.
Review:
And so the saga continues! Honestly, I'm shocked at how quickly the story is moving. It doesn't feel like I just read volume five of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. It feels more like I've been reading it for at least ten volumes – and I mean that in a good way.
This series has a way of sucking you in. Combine that with the quick progress and timeline of the story, and it's easy to see why it feels like you've been reading this book for years. It has a way of forging that genuine connection.
As far as the plot for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Vol. 5 goes, this was fun! I feel like it's a moment we've been waiting for, and it had a satisfying culmination and conclusion. It makes me wonder what will be the next hurdle for Rimuru.
Highlights: Isekai Reincarnation Comical Manga Fantasy Setting
The fight against the orcs goes on and the big bad orc gets even bigger and badder! So far Rimuru had just observed the situation but now he has to take action because even his powerful allies can't win alone.
Battle against the evolved orc lord takes interesting turn when Rimuru gets a glimpse of the orcs' past. In general, I like how the conflicts with these supposedly evil people of various races have been dealt with. I wonder if there's gonna be some kind of problems in the future or will it all be a bliss... You'd think some people clashed at some point but maybe Rimuru will solve everything before anything really bad happens. That means new conflicts have to always come from outside and it can be hard to keep inventing new threats. Also, character development have to come through something else. I'm not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, it's actually pretty great if the Jura Forest alliance holds and everybody is able to leave their grudges behind. We'll see!
Then Rimuru has to lead talks that decide what will orcs, lizardmen, kijin and the dryad Treyni do. And after serious battle, here comes the humour to balance the negotiation business. I sound like a broken record but I can't help gushing how funny Rimuru is in the slime form! :D Highlight: sweating slime, hahah.
Kijin have solidified their place as my favourites after Rimuru, they are cool.
Confrontation with the Orc Lord and his army! Whatever will the mixed group of defenders do? Especially when the Orc Lord eats something that agrees with him and becomes the Demon Lord Orc Disaster!? You'll have to read it and see what happens and how Rimuru overcomes this challenge and what follows after. [Edit: I changed my score to a 5 -- this particular book is a step above the others because of what happens in the story. Mind you it is still TTIGRasS, but it has some solid growth in it.]
For me it is what I've come to expect. Fun and entertaining and continuing to build this world.
Verdict: If you've read the first 4, you know what to expect. Keep on truckin'.
I finally have this volume! Long awaited. I’m really enjoying this series for some cool characters and fantasy species, for Rimuru’s awesomeness and kindness that makes everyone want to follow him and also for the super interesting powers creatures in this world have. The battle in this one was pretty cool but I do wish it lasted a bit longer since they are so sparse. Their world is expanding and everyone is being given a chance of a better life. I am intrigued to see where this series is going to go
Volume 5 marks the end of the Orc King arc and the beginning of the Great Jura Forest Alliance. We got introduced to an interesting Great Sage ability (or rather, "mode") that wasn't in the anime during Rimuru's fight with the evolved Orc King. Not too sure what to make of it, it felt like an "auto-play" mode. And as the volume wraps up, well, Rimuru ended up giving out names again... a lot of it.
The action scenes are well-drawn and engaging if not fairly short. So far, nothing much poses a challenge for Rimuru. I'm fine with that because right now I'm more interested in the development of Rimuru's monster city of allied forces and diverse species. Not sure how the story will proceed from here but I'm looking forward to more hardships in the future for courageous Rimuru Tempest and his company of loyal companions.
This volume did take on the conflict that was introduced last issue. It had some good fights, but overall was very predictable. This series always is an easy read, but really doesn't seem to be really going that far. It seems to build on the story and the setting a bit of a time. Just an average volume overall.
If you have to EXPLAIN to others that you have perspective and insight, THEN YOU DON'T HAVE PERSPECTIVE AND INSIGHT. And knowing the difference between a man and a demon with the appearance of a man is not so great THAT IT DESERVES A PAGE AND A HALF OF BOASTING. FUCKING 12 year olds.
The climax to the battle and what a climax along with some other interesting developments. Slime is quickly turning into one of my favourite manga of all time
The continued side story diary is so funny and intriguing, it offers insight while also giving you information you didnt have in the manga that could be needed to understand a little more.
I like how all the creatures under Rimuru's command seem to be getting more independent. Veldora's journal at the end seems to have more asides than usual, which makes for a more entertaining and less repetitive read!
I don't know why but I got rather emotional for this one. Like with Gabiru's dad letting him go and when the Orc of disaster started talking about how he couldn't die and leave his people it was just sad.
really love the pacing in the manga. It's fun to spot scenes that are different from the anime so its not boring even if i know what will happen since i rewatched the manga so many times and read the light novel.
