Logan has returned to Roter Himmel. Once a peaceful haven for the Royals, it is now a kingdom of chaos and distrust. The people may love their queen, but she has never ruled them on her own.
Sevan has seen Cyrus work miracles long ago, and learned his methods herself. His curse has sustained stronger than death before but the visage of Cyrus’ demise is undeniable. Still, Logan refuses to believe this is the end. Cyrus keeps appearing to her in strange dreams, rambling that she must prepare—that the day is coming when night will rule the day.
While the entire world of vampires watches, Logan will take on the weight of the crown, the certainty of impending change, and the threat of war.
They all should have known better than to test her. She’s had multiple lifetimes to prepare for this…

Crown of Ruin is the third book in Keary's Crown of Death series, which is within the House of Royals world. I am really enjoying this series just as much as I did the first series in this world, which is saying a lot.
Crown of Ruin starts off exactly where Crown of Blood ended - the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers - Cyrus is dead. He isn't resurrecting after a few hours - the man was beheaded. Now Sevan/Logan must figure out how to prevent Roter Himmel from erupting in chaos and having the Crown overthrown.
However, Keary has more than that to worry about. King Cyrus has always lead the Court, he has always been the ruler. The All Mother, Queen Sevan has only ever ruled along side him. So now it is up to Logan/Sevan to prove the Royals within Roter Himmel that she can lead them just as well as King Cyrus. All the while, trying to figure out who is behind the king's death and who can be trusted in her Court.
Keary is definitely moving this series in the perfect direction. I love how this book goes from passing of Cyrus, to showing the true strength of Logan with multiples lifetimes of Sevan to take her stance as the All Mother, Queen of Vampires.
I read this book extremely quickly but everything plays out a perfect pace. I love the new angles that Keary adds into this series and how it blends perfectly into another amazing cliffhanger. While I did figure out who was behind it all, there were additional things that did take me by surprise which I loved more than knowing that I was right in who it was. I can't wait to see how she plays the next book out.
Well colour me surprised that this isn't the last book in this series. I am now all caught up and in no hurry to return to Roter Himmel, due to my love/hate relationship with Logan and Cyrus. Sevan I can rally behind but if I had to read Logan say "takes my acid" one more time, I would have been ready to throw the whole book away!
Insurgents are nothing new in life or this series but I just wish it was different. We did the Battle of the Bitten with Alivia and the humans turning against the vampires in Boston so a fresh plot would have been nice. Recreating the same topic with another couple, stemmed from familial roots is just ... well done already. Many times. In this same series.
Something to look forward to was the history and recollection of Sevan and Cyrus. It was interesting to see her at work as she sort through her head and the issues at Court. It is probably the only reason I did not give this two stars because outside of that, I didn't care very much for their current relationship and Cyrus nonchalant skipping between calling her Logan or Sevan.
As we all know, she will inevitably starve and die. So what then? When she reincarnates, will you be searching for them both? Because history would say that Logan would be dead as a door nail and it is Sevan, who would have had to share you in this reincarnated life, knowing you fell in love with another woman, then coming back to you again ... to start over again. It's just all too much!
The politics of Roter Himmel is fascinating and I was totally here for it! What caught me even more was the whole Cyrus assassination and the dirt magic that followed. Keary Taylor has always found a way to spin these elaborately detailed tales and this time was no different. The time and patience taken to properly explain it all to us was appreciated.
I reckon the next book will be more of the same. Death of maybe Eshan but definitely someone important (male& female) and the long strategies and plays, only to conclude in a 5 minutes battle in ANOTHER revolution. It's like they never end but then I guess it's technically been 10 years since the last one, 5 minutes in vampire time, and this one seems to be a purge that the Court needs.
This is a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t put it down. This story picks up right where the previous book ended. I do strongly suggest reading this series in order for best enjoyment. The author takes us on an incredible journey with plenty of twists and a few surprises thrown in. I’m looking forward to reading what happens next.
I found this book confusing/weird. Logan/Sevan and Cyrus keep refering to Logan/Sevan as two separate people. This makes the romance with Cyrus slightly weird. Neither Logan or Sevan have the whole love from Cyrus as as he seems to love both of them even though they are the same person. Very confusing.
I can't see how it works with him loving Logan, Sevan's current body when it is the first time it has happened. It makes me wonder why he never loved her other reincarnations. Since they were all essentially her.....Also what will happen when she dies again. She will remember that he loved Logan as well as Sevan last time and will feel hurt if he doesn't love the new reincarnation. The story concept is a bit of a mess.
The story would have worked a lot better if he always falls in love with Sevan's reincarnations and only her. This could be a way they identifed who she is before her transformation into a vampire. There would then not need to be a weird two person in one body thing happening. The different reincarnations should always be similar and identifiable as Sevan.
Just as Logan Pierce remembered everything - her origins as Sevan, her soul-deep love with Cyrus, and each of her previous incarnations with her beloved - she returns to finally pick up her life with Cyrus only to find him murdered, his head cleaved from his body.
There are traitors in their midst, and they have struck down the eternal love of her many lives just as she was ready to stand by his side as queen. Now they will know a darkness and power never before seen as Logan, aka Sevan, surrounds herself only with her most trusted family: birth mother Alivia, Alivia’s husband Ian, and Logan’s brother, Eshan.
Now Logan must serve as queen to a people who have only ever followed Cyrus for the last 2,000 years while discovering who among the royals wants to overthrow him. Although dead, Cyrus visits Logan in her dreams, relaying cryptic messages she can’t begin to understand. And now Logan’s birth mother, Alivia, has finally solved the puzzle of just who Logan’s father is and what dangers he can bring to them all.
This book is all about Logan, and she is queen to her core.
The depth of emotion in this installment is incredible. Logan/Sevan and Cyrus are truly a couple for the ages, and no one deserves a happy ending more than they do. The only question is, will they get it?
Logan not only has to deal with the death of Cyrus, but also traitors in her midst. But she queens it up using all of the resources at her disposal. It’s sometimes hard to remember Logan herself is only 20 years old and has never even had a serious relationship before. Yet by calling on Sevan’s knowledge, and her own intuition, she is able to finally pinpoint where the danger to her loved ones is coming from.
The book ends on a huge cliffy, which only makes me want to run and read the last novel. I have a feeling a lot more queening is about to take place.
Just a little disappointing for me. After the last book, I was expecting Sevan to come back with a bang, and while she wasn't necessarily weak, the whole division with Logan/Sevan, was just confusing and so unnecessary and I really didn't like it. I understand if that division happens everytime she is reincarnated, but it seems to be new territory for Cyrus too, and I couldn't really discern what was Logan and what was Sevan. So the whole "being in love with two women" thing and him calling her by both names was confusing AF. It just seems like it's Logan all the time but with Sevan's memories and that's it. I wanted to get to know Sevan more outside of the memories, but Logan still being there just sort of tainted the romance for me which totally sucks.
Other than that, I expected a little more from the kingdom. Like they should always be prepared after what happened with their past, for mutiny and assassination attempts. But it seems like it's just them two and a few other people against all the vampires. Like where are the guards? Armies? Leaders? I really hope they have something up their sleeves because I am a little annoyed that everyone is SO afraid of Cyrus and yet it seems like him and the kingdom can so easily be taken down.

OMG!!! This book is gonna be the end of me! That cliffhanger! Again! I’m screaming! Right when you think you’ve got everything worked out Taylor pulls the floor out from under you! I knew it just knew something was fishy with her bio dad. He was too calm and innocent and then the whole “he was a traveler, a wanderer” yeah no! Grrrrr! They just should have just started offing them including daddy dearest! Ahhh! What’s gonna happen now. Okay so a few things, like I was never expecting what happened to Cyrus in the middle like whaat! I was shocked, and then I was like okay, he’ll be okay. And then when I was trying to adjust to him being good he decided he was just gonna take a step back… I’m sorry whaaat! I did lots of screaming at my kindle this book! I’m happy with the bond that Logan was able to create with her mom, i feel like that was so unexpected, but much needed. I need her the next book now!
After the slow pacing of the previous book, Crown of Blood, which spent an inordinate amount of time traipsing around the chaotic miasma of Logan\Sevan's splintered mind before walloping us with an absolutely DEVASTATING cliffhanger, I was ready for Crown of Ruin to bring it's "A" Game & get this party started. Which it did, for the most part.
It still started off slower than I would've liked, the plot bogged down beneath all that Logan\Sevan baggage, but by 15-20% our girl FINALLY gets her shit together & begins acting like the crazy powerful vampire queen she is-- a mate cunning & bloodthirsty enough to be worthy of Cyrus. Which brings me to my next point, that while I was glad our heroine managed to get it together, my #1 priority in this book was How Do We Get Cyrus back? Luckily it's Logan's #1 priority also, & she finally gets it right about half way thru the book. But Logan has more on her plate than just dealing with fixing her husband's severed head, as many things that have been brewing in the background are only now coming into the light. Luckily it doesn't take too long before Logan hits her stride & starts running the Royal vamps ragged like she's their Long Dead Queen or something... oh, wait, that's right, she is!
So, Cyrus & Sevan\Logan are finally reunited, hopefully for good, but in this series, who honestly knows?! Before the lovebirds can even share some sweet, sweet sexy time (more on that in a minute) there are bigger problems to handle, like figuring out who ordered Cyrus's assassination in the first place, & why. And what's the deal with Logan's mysterious bio-dad & his free-ranging Royal family? The final 25% really kicks the action up a notch, culminating in one of those cursed cliffhangers Keary Taylor does so well (not as bad as the last one IMHO). I'm fully on board & dying to know what's next.
Overall, a good read, back up to a solid 4 stars. There's one other little thing I want to mention, & that is the aforementioned lack of lovemaking in this vampire romance. I don't need it to read like softcore porn or anything, but it seems super silly to me, considering how many "lusty looks" & "soulful kisses," the pair have shared, that they haven't actually gotten around to doing The Deed. Think about it: Cyrus hasn't seen Sevan in like 250 years, & he hasn't been with anyone else, remaining loyal to his one true love all that time. Shit, she should reward him for that if nothing else!! But here's the part that's cringy to me: because Logan is a virgin, she wants to wait until it "feels right." This is despite the presence of 7 other women in her mind, all of whom were married to Cyrus & presumably sleeping with him regularly for a collective period of several hundred years. So, come on, how much of a virgin is she really? Her body may be a virgin but her brain is a seasoned pro & probably just as anxious for a slice of Cyrus as he is for a sip of Sevan, if ya know what I mean? 😉 Just a pet peeve I find a bit silly, not a real complaint.
Bottom line, for reals, Crown of Ruin was worth struggling through the series' sophomore slump & the set up for the final book is spot on!! I just hope the final book is awesome & action packed & most of all lives up to my expectation of an AMAZEBALLS Happily Ever After for the super-epic immortal lovers Cyrus & Sevan (I've only been waiting, like, 10 books for this HEA-- ever since Cyrus was introduced in House of Kings)! For real though I will fight the author if I'm not satisfied.
Preview Thoughts (Chapters 1-3): "She’s just a girl, but she’s the mother of them all." This phrase encapsulates the early chapters of Crown of Ruin, where Sevan's rise to power as Queen takes center stage. I enjoyed seeing the spotlight on Sevan, with very little focus on Logan, as she transitions into her Queendom. The opening was tragically poignant but set the stage for a story where a strong female leader takes charge, which is always satisfying to see.
Final Review: As the narrative progresses, Sevan takes a back seat and you can’t help but admire Logan’s resilience and the unwavering allegiance of her people. However, the book struggles with chaotic storytelling that stems from underdeveloped world-building, particularly regarding Roter Himmel and its surroundings. A map or earlier exploration of Cyrus’s castle and the city might have provided the clarity needed to make the setting more navigable and immersive. Without these elements, the action often feels disorienting, leaving readers to piece together the geography and structure of the world.
The pacing is another mixed bag. The story feels like it peaks about two-thirds of the way through, leaving the final third with a somewhat anticlimactic reveal of the antagonist. While the foreshadowing was evident early on, the lack of a significant twist or impact makes the reveal feel underwhelming and doesn’t add much to the overarching plot.
That said, the book’s conclusion leaves enough intrigue to make the next installment critical. A new war, a new perspective. Times are changing and the shifting dynamics of the vampire world promise new challenges for Logan and Cyrus, and it will be interesting to see how their journey unfolds.
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Spice Rating: 0/5 A decent addition to the series with strong character moments but hindered by chaotic storytelling and an underwhelming climax. The potential for future growth keeps me curious about what’s next.
Yikes. What did I just read?! The whole Sevan/Logan thing was kind of gross and hard to buy. You want me to believe that this guy, who has been in love/obsessed with his wife for thousands of years, just went and fell in love with this 20-year-old girl - who looks exactly like this other woman he hates, btw - in less than a month?! Also, that he's making out with her and proposing while his wife's consciousness/soul is just sitting there in the backburner? Nope...
The cliffhanger was also not that "cliffy" for me for the first time in this entire series, which I had absolutely loved to this point. I seriously couldn't wait a minute before starting to read the next book, but with this one, even though it's the last in this universe, I'm having to take a break.
Spoilers ahead . . . . . The whole "terror" the writer tried to instigate with 300 vampires showing up at Roter Himmel in the end of the book didn't really work, because the FMC had her own 300+ vampires + 6k heavily armed and well-trained special forces humans - which to this point are actually "laying siege" to HER 300+ ones - so, what's the real danger here? I really don't get what all the fuss is about.
Anyway, I'm really bummed about how this series turned out, but with just one book left, I'll finish it in hopes to get a last glimpse of Henry Conrath, and hopefully, seeing Cyrus and Sevan/Logan choosing to take his cure and handing the reins to Dorian and Malachi + the Houses, or something like that.
So we start this book by following Logan on her journey to rotter himmel. Cyrus has been beheaded and the castle is in chaos. Logan has to take control immediately and weed out who she can trust and who wants her dead aswell. We follow Logan as she grieves for her dead love, and takes him down to the secret lab in the bowels of their home. Logan, in desperation, performs the magic she saw Cyrus perform when they were much younger. And surprisingly, he being to heal. She then starts having vivid dreams of Cyrus, wondering if he’s wandering lost in the dark. During a staged military coup a man mutters about the night overtaking the day and Logan has a flashback about Cyrus’s ramblings and springs into action. She retreats the vision Cyrus showed her and Cyrus comes back to her. We also discover Logan’s father is a royal, who has a sinister plot, and a huge family hidden all over the world.
This book was heart wrenching. Logan is so strong and lost, all at once. She’s overwhelmed but determined to get her husband back and reinstall peace and harmony to rotter Himmel.
As is usual with keary, the story ends on a gasp and a lead into the next. I eagerly await the next book.

I really do love this series. I love the story of Sevan and Cyrus and basically everything about Cyrus. It is entertaining and fun, but there are just a few things I cannot get over! I hate the whole Sevan/Logan issue. More than anything I hate the fact that Cyrus feels disloyal because he was falling in love with Logan. I feel like they are trying to make it seem like Logan is really special when she is kind of boring. It takes away from the amazing love story that spans centuries! It would have been better if they made it a whole "he just recognized his wife and that is why he fell for her" thing. Instead I felt all weird about it.
Also, I don't really like how Cyrus has changed so much in this. He just wants to give up. He seems a bit inconsistent. Not that I don't still love him! Overall enjoyable, but not my favorite. Hopefully this last book redeems everything.
OMG! I know that when I read a book by Ms. Taylor, I will: get my heart torn out of my chest, be left in a state of uncertainty, or be afraid to see what’s going to happen next (or all of them) and this latest addition to the series is no exception! I’ll try to keep spoilers out of this review, but I have to admit it will be hard. We all know what happened at the end of the last book, and Logan has to deal with the consequences of that. I love that she steps up and succeeds so well at something she hasn’t had to do before. And, boy, does she have a lot to deal with. The loyalty of some of her people is amazing. She also partners with Alivia to discover information about her father. Again, that just tore the heart out of my chest for what they uncover. I just love the direction this book has taken at the end, and I can’t wait to see just exactly how they will get out of the pickle they find themselves in now. This book is the best one I’ve read by Ms. Taylor, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! I was provided a complimentary copy of the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.
I love this series and I love the way Keary Taylor gives so many sides to each character yet keeps them true. Cyrus is both mad and loveable. We get to see him react with Alivia and I enjoy seeing Ian thru another set of eyes. At the beginning of this book we see Logan/Sevan struggling not only with the loss of Cyrus and trying to meld the two parts of her together but she also has to defend their kingdom. Logan/Sevan proves to be just as strategic and vicious as her husband, and just like Alivia we understand their is good and bad inside her. She may do terrible things but her heart and motives are in the right place. We get a love story here which is enjoyable. I love seeing Cyrus's soft side. I was a little surprised Logan didn't have to prove herself to her people more. Without Cyrus there anyone could have claimed to be Sevan. But that didn't distract from the story. The ending.... Oh my! The ending was amazing. A new era is approaching it seems!
So Much Better Than Book Two!🙏⭐ Audiobook 🎧 Crown of Ruin: Blood Descendants Universe (Crown of Death Series, Book 3) Crown of Death Series, Book 3 By: Keary Taylor Narrated by: Claire Buchignani Length: 8 hrs and 20 mins (Read Using Kindle Unlimited)
After finally arriving back in Austria, Logan is distraught to find King Cyrus has been murdered!😲😭 She demands the kingdom is locked down, she wants to find all the traitors. Her birth mother, Ian and two of her most loyal grandsons and her.
She takes her husbands body deep under the castle to try to use old mud magic c to bring him back. She has dreams, they point to an eclipse.
This was an odd book. Logan has to pull on a lot of Sevan's knowledge to get her through most of it. She still mostly relates to herself as Logan, though. There are plans afoot to overthrow the Crown.👑 Will it end in war again?
Crown of Ruin, the 3rd book in Keary Taylors Crown of Death Saga, and one of the best shes written to date. Logan finially gets to Roter Himmel, as Sevan, Cyrus's long awaited bride however things arnt what they should be considering Cyrus was beheaded hours before. Keary flawlessly blends Logans's grief with action, showing just how effective a queen is even without her king. Logan faces her biggest trial to date as she navagates through her mother, learning her fathers identity, discovering just how deep the conspiracy at court is, and just how personal it is. This third instalment is full of plot twists and answers quite a few questions, it will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Finished this yesterday and I had to take today to mull it over before writing this review.
I love being back in this Universe Keary Taylor has created, I can almost envision Roter Himmel and its inhabitants now. Glad we're getting to know both Logan AND Sevan and it's great storytelling to have both Logan and Sevan's points of view, and they seem to be working together.
I know I'm pretty much alone in that I don't actually hate Ian. If anything I find Alivia more annoying than Ian, I can understand at least why Ian does what he does. I did wonder who the big bad would turn out to be and I have to say that was a nice twist I didn't really see coming.
Another great installment for this series. I love knowing (or at least remembering the basics) of the history and the past stories in this universe. It deepens my connections to everything happening and moments the characters have while interacting.
The depth of love Logan/Sevan and Cyrus feel and express is the best romances I've read in a while, and it's so heartwarming to read about, especially when I'm familiar with this kind of end-all love in the real world.
I love the politics in these books, and that Logan is at the heart of it all. This feels like one of the most complicated and well-executed plotlines Keary Taylor's ever come up with, and I'm here for it.
I have one more book, and I'm excited to see how this all wraps up.
Wow! After the last book left my heart in shock and wondering about all the posibilities that could happen, this book didn’t disappoint! Logan has definitely stepped up and be the Queen that she needs to be. It has been interesting seeing how she deals with what happened to King Cyrus and how to keep their kingdom together. I love how we see a lot of Alivia in this book as well. Some revelations has been unexpectable to be and the ending is definitely another cliffhanger to me albeit it wasn’t as heartbreaking as the last one. Keary has done a great job satiating my thirst for answer but also giving me more questions as well to lok forward to the next one.
Much more happens in here and towards the end it felt like they were gearing up to a happily ever after! However, if it had happened then, the whole series would have been a bit of a disappointment. Whilst stuff happens, it is again more contemplative in many ways than action based.
More does happen here, and I was thrilled Cyrus and Logan are back together. Although, how she hasn't jumped him yet is a mystery to me!
They have an interesting dynamic and I can't say I am yet convinced that the execution of all these women in her head has been quite what it could have been. However, its a really fun series that keeps you interested and keeps you guessing!
Fast paced, secrets, betrayal and full of surprises. I think this book is like a fast twisting rollercoaster, so much happening and so fast. The King is dead and Logan arrived to try to take over as Queen and rule. She has not given up and Cyrus and becomes a blended Logan - Sevan. Alivia and Ian try to help her, but don't know everything. Logan finds her dad at court after Alivia identifies him but something is amiss. Be ready for a fast and exciting read. This may be the best book of the series.
As long as Taylor keeps writing, I'll be reading what she writes. She is the master of twists and turns! This deep into a series, and she's still got my FULL attention. A main character with two women taking up mental space? That would be incredibly difficult to write, yet when I'm reading, I don't think about that for a second. I get sucked into the world she's built and the fast-paced thrill ride of the plot and I'm captivated to the very last page. Loved every second, and will wait with great anticipation for the next!
I'm just going to say I love that the character Logan is evolving more. It's like she is not letting Sevan rule the day. I also love the fact that now it is the Queen calling the shots! Only thing I wish is for longer books, these just seem to quick of a read. Given more time and pages i feel like some of the other characters could get more time focused on them.
Pretty fricken awesome! Logan has to figure out how to rule by herself while she awaits to see if Cyrus will come back from the dead. She teams up with her 2 grandsons- Malachi and Dorian to have the town surrounded and the people questioned. At the end there’s a definite challenge and we find out who the true traitor is. Is Logan up for the challenge? How will she save the kingdom and the world?
I really hated how Crown of death ended and I was glad I didn't have to wait long for Crown of ruin. This book was really good. I love how Logan held her own and proved her worth without Cyrus - showing her kingdom she is just as ruthless when needed. It has twist and turns and surprises and I look forward to the 4th book :)
Logan/Sevan must dig deep and find the strength to rule as Queen of her people following the tragedy that mortally wounded Cyrus. The excitement escalates in the episode and the conspiracy and treachery deepens. This is a very intense and suspenseful story building to total chaos. I look forward to reading the final conclusion of this astonishing narrative. Great! Great! Tale!!!!!
Crown of Ruin is the third book of the Crown of Death series. All three books are surprisingly good and I am eager to read the forth. I stumbled upon this author when I was searching for someone new to read. I love reading paranormal books and this series has unique twists and turns. I like books with a strong heroine and this series delivers.
