Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories.
Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.)
A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.

I have enjoyed Ryk Brown’s books. This book is a bit different in that Nathan and Jessica have gone off to make a deal with Sanctuary. They want medical care for Nathan’s sister and a source to purchase arms and supplies. The Sanctuary is very secure, therefore, ideal for Nathan’s group, but it is also a place of outlaws. Nathan has left Cameron in command of the Aurora and the war.

The book is well written. Brown continues to develop the characters. The plots twists and turns. This book is far more emotional than the prior books. This book has a bit less action than the other ones, but we get to see the human side of some of the characters. I cannot wait for the next episode.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is eleven hours. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the book. Kafer is a voice-over artist and is now a full-time audiobook narrator. He has won multiple Earphone Awards.

WRITE FASTER RYK!!! I can't get enough of NaTan and the crowd. If I had a criticism, it would be how fast the Dr. was found on a new planet, and I question how a planet that was rumored to be full of pirates and ne'er-do-wells was chosen by Nathan to hide his sister, but otherwise, I loved this book. The action sequences had me laughing and pumping my fist, while the sad sequences had me close to tears. Great writing.

Another awesome chapter in the development of NaTan.

It is fascinating to watch him evolve into the true leader he needs to be. This was a nice side journey before the main fireworks begin. The new technology he aquired should make the upcoming battles that much more interesting. I have a suspision who the young person is that he kidnapped, just not sure how that persons role will play into the story. No spoilers here. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Episode #8 of The Frontiers Saga: Part 2: Rogue Castes is a decent read in the series. It is a side-quest heavy episode, but the main plot line does advance a bit. The tragic events of the previous episode are heavily on the mind of Captain Nathan Scott, thus it keeps him on a personal errand for most of the book. That errand is action packed, of course. Meanwhile, the fleet, Cameron & Telles are left to deal with a conniving Rakuen politician on their own.

To be honest, the 'You are the only one who can lead us, Nathan Scott!' manta is a bit over-played in this book, and I also find it not to be true. Between the Aurora's Commander, the Ghatazak Commander and Deliza Ta'Akar, the Rebellion is in more than capable hands. They can run it by themselves... and kind of do. Nathan Scott has not done much yet, other than gather some silly race-car spaceships (Gunyoki) and a reluctant ally in the Rakuen. The ending scene was a bit over the top and cringy, but the outcome is a turn in the right direction for the main character, so I hope things get back to normal. And by normal, I mean more space captain fighting creative space battles and less space pirates doing space pirate stuff.

The side-quest in this book does introduce some interesting new tech possibilities that will no doubt lead to the Rebellion keeping the upper hand against the Dushan (and some really cool fight scenes!). There are also some mysterious revelations that I think I know the backstory of, but I'm not sure, so I won't guess here. All in all the book is a fun read and makes me eager for the high stakes fight that is brewing.

I give this one three stars and call it a Decent Read.

Ryk Brown is prolific, and I've been a fan as long as he's been writing about his band of space pirates. I guess calling them pirates is misleading. They're the good guys. But for whatever reason, they've got the stars, and much more powerful worlds, aligned against them. But no matter what the odds, Captain Nathan Smtih and his merry pranksters figure out a way out of their interstellar mess. This time in "Sactuary," the eighth in the second series, Nathan heads off to a planet that will only let him in if he's believed to be a credible criminal. Brown slows the series down a bit, going back to his roots, or at least his favorite characters, to put together a yarn about having to bend the rules, kill some bad guys and try to survive while still leading a rebellion and preserving access to freedom for as many in the human race as possible. It's a tall order. But somehow Brown makes it totally entertaining while sometimes uncomfortably stressful. His heroes are underdogs, whether they're at the mercy of real pirates or rogue factions of massive political threat. Spaceship battles ensue, and they're engaging. Nathan goes through some serious emotional turmoil and tries to work through it. And Brown wrote it in such a way that I'm just hanging on his final words for the next episode.

This chapter in the series is the most character driven. The reader gets to see the humanity in each of the main protagonists in the book. There are enough battle scenes in the book to satisfy the action oriented reader. There is a mysterious villain from Nathan Scott's past that begins to play a vital role in the on going storyline.

I enjoy listening to on going series. I am extremely happy that I have great network of libraries that give me access to Ryk Brown's audio books for free. He writes so much that I could not afford to buy them all. Hopefully this entire series will come to a conclusion at some point. Until then I am anxious to see what happens next.

This one was really good and I feel like Part 2 is actually picking up and getting interesting. The first few books of Part 2 were a little hard to get through, but the last few I've read have been worth it.

If I had any criticism of this book, it would be the doctor on Sanctuary. He just seemed a little too perfect - easy to find, interested in the problem, not too difficult to acquire his services, etc. Sanctuary itself is also an interesting choice. I get that it's hard to find and exclusive, so that makes it a good choice for Nathan. But it's also supposed to be a pirate haven, so it doesn't seem like a good place to be.

Interesting developments

A lot of the book is dedicated to Nathan and his desire to find help reviving his sister, so the main plot is a bit of a back story in this book
Sanctuary is a place, a difficult one to get to and this forms the basis for Nathan's and the crews trials and tribulations in this book. Whats there promises to give Nathan everything he needs, so everything else takes a back seat
Meanwhile, the fleet have to overcome some backstabbing from what was in reality an expected quarter. No real surprises here and the outcome is a foregone conclusion
A good book. Didn't push the main storyline too far along, but lots of interesting stuff happening none the less

The book starts soon after the attack on Earth. Nathan is still grieving the death of his family. His sister and her children, who were badly injured, are in stasis pods on the Aurora. His desire to find a safe place for them to recover leads him to make decisions which may not be in the best interests of the Alliance. Yet, can they make something productive out of Nathan's actions?

We see Nathan at his most vulnerable. We see his desire to care for his sister and her children above the needs of everyone who is depending upon him.

Frontiers Saga rocks!

This series has by far been the best I have ever read in terms of being entertaining and keeping me awake all hours of the night. As an author I have 'read' your growth through from first books and I can honestly say when I see a new release from you I just immediately download it. The characters, the humour, the plots are all well researched and just so damn interesting...great stuff Ryk, keep em coming, make this series go on..

Another amazing chapter to this story

I wept at the final chapter it was so moving. This is by far the best series of books I have ever read. Mr. Brown has done a fantastic job on this series. I feel like I personally know Nation Scott, Jessica Nash and General Telles among many of the other characters. they all come to life in this story. I actually couldn't put it down! I wait in anticipation for the next Chapter please don't make it to long!

In a way these stories are a bit like a comic boo. They are a complete story that advances multiple overall story arcs one step at a time.

This one however had several paths running in parallel with jumps between them. It is a frequent technique in movies. Unfortunately, especially those that included non main characters, it was very difficult to visualize the context change. This meant that several of the tense action scenes were very hard to follow.

Best yet in the entire Frontiers Saga!

I am writing this through tear filled eyes. This episode is the first of the second series to evoke the passion, excitement, pathos and the sheer scope of the first series. The ending is as powerful and poignant as any book I have read in years of any genre. Well done Mr Brown!

Great book of the sequel, can't wait the next one

The beginning of the book was bit too much of dark side for me, but it was necessary to pull in me into the book. As all previous books, this one also provided many unexpected turns and left in thoughts as well. Last chapters was so great that I can't wait next book to see what author will bring to us.

Strong to the last word

This is episode 8 and while you might expect a fade this far into a story line, Ryk Brown has provided a strong narrative through the this book. The personal line but through the devastation meshes well with story lines about older adversaries and allies, yet takes the time to introduce new characters and situations. These promise more for future episodes

Maybe the best in the series

I've read and re-read every book in the series. But here it comes together. The humor of try on your wig, to the drama of no comms under fire, to a Destiny accepted are all perfectly plotted and executed. And I am under stating if anything! R Brown, this was such a pleasure, thank you.

When I saw that Nathen was going to what they called a rogue planet was a safe haven for his ill sister I was afraid things would not turn out OK. But the place turned out to be a great place and his sister is in the hands of a great doctor. And Jessica got the planet to accept their security teams with weapons. The end of the book was somewhat teary

great read

It is amazing that the author comes up with all the stuff he writes about. Historical data is correct, I checked. This story upheld my interest just like the previous 22 books. Nathan is still growing into his role as a leader not just of the Aurora but of a multitude of worlds and cultures. Must start at 1:1 The Aurora. Very confusing if you don’t.

A bit off the beaten trail

This series just keeps getting better with each book. This one is a bit off the standard trail. However it hits all the high notes. There is suspense, action, and some tear jerking moments. Look forward to the next installment.

Another fantastic addition to the saga

This episode takes us away from the war with the Dusahn to focus on Nathan’s family. A bit of a tangent but still full of adventure and sci-fi creativity. I look forward to getting back to the central storyline in the next episode.

Another solid book in the series

I really enjoy this series, and can not wait for the next books to come out. Each book has its slow spots but they still add to the story. Some battle descriptions etc seems to filler at times but the stories are still very enjoyable to read.

Pure Enjoyment

Characters were established and each one had their own personal story. The story was well developed and never lost the ability to surprise even though it was the 8th book of the series. I have read all of them and will be waiting for the next chapter.
