Review:
The characters are well rounded and well developed. I enjoyed getting to spend more time with Heather and Amy, two best friends that are private investigators. They are smart and resourceful and are very good at their jobs. I also enjoyed getting to spend more time with the secondary characters and they added a lot to the story.
The writing style flows smoothly and is evenly spaced. The mystery was well developed and there were enough suspects to consider and clues to sift through. The author is talented in her descriptive writing and those descriptions helped pull me into the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery.
Time for Spring Break....Luz, one of Heather Shepherd’s employees, is anticipating this break as her son, Leon is coming home. Leon is one of Digby’s, another employee at Donut Delights, best friend. Digby is ready for his leading role in the community play. As Detective Peters is ready for his role. Heather’s new creation is the Caramel Fudge Donut. A former high school friend of Leon & Digby’s, Angela Fiat is found dead. She was strangled with a tie. She was a former sweetheart of Leon’s. He had been at her house the day of the murder. Luz asks Heather to look into the case as she is sure Leon is not a murder. Heather and Amy set out to investigate. An unique plot with interesting characters make this an intriguing read. This is book # 26 in the Oceanside Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read Caramel Fudge & Murder. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
Luz who is one of Heather’s baking assistants is so excited to have her son home from college for spring break. Leon is happy to see his mom and have the chance to visit with friends as well, one of those friends being Digby. When a friend gets murdered Leon becomes the prime suspect Digby and Peters are both enjoying being part of the play. A fun series, filled with family and friends and always a yummy donut. Heather Shepherd's baking assistant, Lutz is overjoyed. Her son, Leon, is visiting her from college and Lutz cannot wait to give him some motherly love not to mention some of the delicious donuts she bakes in Heather's donut shop. Leon is happy to be visiting his mom but he also wants to spend some time with his friends. Digby, one of Heather's other baking assistants and and actor, and another old friend, Eric, are just two of his old pals.
Digby invited Leon to see the final performance of his play and to attend the wrap party afterwards. Leon agrees but during the last performance Heather, who was there as well, noticed that Leon came in very late and seem dishevelled. Leon then lied to Digby saying that he was at the play the whole time. Heather thought something was strange but didn't realize how strange until the next day when she found out that a young woman, Angela Fiat, was strangled outside her bedroom door with a man's tie. Complicating matters was that Leon was not only an old friend of Angela’s but also her ex-boyfriend. And making things even worse, Leon’s friend, Eric, is Angela’s newest boyfriend, and the three of them were together. Eric and Leon got into an altercation over Angela and now she was dead. And who is the main suspect? Leon, of course, even though he denies killing his old girlfriend. So who murdered the young girl? Was it her newest boyfriend, Eric, or maybe her best friend, or did Leon do it in a fit of rage? Heather and her P.I. partner and best friend, Amy Givens, are on the case and they’re pros at finding murderers.
“Caramel Fudge & Murder” is author Susan Gillard’s 26th installment of her popular Oceanside Mystery Cozy Series. Always packed with fun, lots of friends, family, and plenty of donuts, this series is fun to read with absolutely no violence. You’ll be drawn into this newest book especially if you’re already a fan of the series and if you’ve never read any of the novels “Caramel Fudge & Murder” would be a good place to start.
“I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.”
I enjoyed this book with the caveat that the ending felt like a bit of a let down, a little flat.
Divvy is finally having his time in the spotlight and detective Peters is enjoying being part of the play. With Luz’s son Leon home from school break everything should be perfect. They an ex girlfriend of Leon’s is murdered and he ends up being the prime suspect.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
Another excellent book! In this one Heather, Amy and Jamie go to almost all of Digby's play and enjoy every one. There is a bit of excitement in this book as Luz's son comes home from college. He's a good friend of Digby and they are having fun palling around. Unfortunately an ex girlfriend is found murdered and Heather and Amy must get to the bottom of it because the more they dig into this the more it looks like Leon is the culprit
As always this installment of Heather's life was really interesting and puzzling. I got the murderer before Heather said who it was which is the first time out of all of these books. I look forward to them and don't really mind having to pay for them. Now book 27.
Heather does it again. I love this series and if you love a great cozy with characters that you will love and a story that will keep you turning the page and waiting for the next book then this series by Susan Gillards is a must read .
I enjoy the wholesome-ness, side characters being developed, the continuation of Heather & Amy's friendship! A clue was dropped & I knew who the killer was and as the story continued it showed that I didn't miss the clue.
Another great book in this series. Luz's son, Leon, comes home on Spring Break and spends a lot of time with his best friend, Digby. A high school friend of the guys is murdered and Leon becomes one of the suspects. I enjoyed the book and recommend it and the series.
