Interesting start to a story. This is a beauty-and-the-beast type tale, but one that involves a lot of political elements and has higher stakes, in that there are consequences not just for the two protagonists but for the kingdom and inhabitants.

I love how pure both of them 😭

Until latest volume, I love their story. But I hope they can manage to do more than show their true love to convince all the beasts. Because maybe, I'll get bored like similar manga.

This was SO good! Another series that already blew my expectations out of the water and left me reeling because I was completely caught off guard by how much I loved this!

Let me say it again, I love love LOVE this story!

I sort of actually feel a little speechless because for so long I was eager to try this story but was also really nervous because I was afraid the politics would lose me, BUT! I'm so happy to say that is not the case! While there was one brief moment that I felt like this 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 (which has happened to me in any book I've read with anything other then light politics), it in no way stole my joy from deeply enjoying this first volume.

Right from the start, my heart went out to Sariphi. In fact, her backstory was a little gut-wrenching and wrestled with feelings of anger and sadness on her behalf (though the anger was in no way directed at her). Despite the grief and pain she has endured, the happiness and care she resonates towards the King is amazing. (I was done for when she made him a crown of flowers!) She is striving to do everything she can to stay by his side and love her gentle encouragement. There are such wonderful moments where the mangaka draws her smiling that it just made my heart genuinely feel lighter.

And the King!! Goodness, if any character surprised me most, hands down it was him! I can't say much because no one has ever spoiled something that happens in this volume, but it was one of the best things I've read in fiction recently! (I would say right up there with The Remarried Empress!) I don't think I'll ever be getting over it! LOL! It honestly changed everything in what I thought this series would be moving forward. So so so good! But outside of that, the King is such a good beast! I have loved seeing him and Sari's interactions and 1000% ship them!

THOUGH THAT ENDING!!!!! *flips table* GAHHHHHHHH!! I was SO upset! At least the mini bonus chapter/comic at the end helped because it was cute and funny and made my anger dissipate a little, but Sari needs hugs ASAP!

There are so many fantastic moments in this story that I feel my review can't even fully capture how great this first volume was! I am so excited that I FINALLY started reading this because I have a feeling it could turn into one of my favorites this year!

I will say though that Cy and Clops are ADORABLE!! I love them so much and wish I could hang out with them!! Anubis makes me happy and I think it's just because he's so grumpy. LOL! I'm really hoping he DOES warm up to Sari here soon. <3 (Also couldn't help but laugh when the King mentions he too doesn't want to hear Anubis lectures when it came to a certain scene. So funny!)

The art is very very good and have found it really cool seeing all these different beasts throughout the story.

Overall, this is SO good! I feel it was such a surprise read for me in my enjoyment of it and definitely going to be be binge reading the rest (if work-related stuff allows it LOL)! Can't wait for the next volume and hope everything will be okay!

È un manga a metà tra The Girl From The Other Side e The Ancient Magus Bride.

In modo approfondito:

CW: Violence, Brief depiction of Self-Mutilation, Blood

I adored this manga with all of my being, and I'm surprised I did so much! In this story we follow a young woman named Sariphi who is raised to be a sacrifice to the King of Beasts. This King puts on a rough and mean facade, but our heroine starts breaking down those walls. They start taking a liking to each other, and he decides he wants to make her his bride.
This was so good. I love the dynamic between our two leads. The political intrigue was also very well down. It discusses prejudice between humans and beast people. It's all so fascinating. I can't wait to see where this story goes next. I highly recommend it.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago, and finally had time to read it. It was even better than I thought it would be! The art is gorgeous, the story intriguing, and the characters adorable! The ship is real. :) I can't wait to see what happens in the next volume, as this one ended on a rather interesting note. The extra at the end of the volume was adorable, by the way! I'm really happy I picked this book up, and would definitely recommend it to fans of manga, fantasy, and romance! 5 stars.

I have so many questions about the Beast and his origins. I hope we get some answers. So far I like it but I might not continue if it doesn’t get more interesting or if our MC’s don’t get some supportive friends/family characters. It feels like the world is against them and that’s fine but kind of boring and unrealistic. If that was true a coup would happen and this story would end. Or am I just jaded?? A little of both. Lol. It was cute enough and kept my interest but just barely.

I really liked this first volume! I'm excited to continue reading this series.

We've got a sassy loveable MC with a grumpy beast man so it's totally up my alley.

another Beauty & the Beast manga in which a little girl is sacrificed to a monster king who, it turns out, doesn't eat his sacrifices. having nowhere else to go, the girl consents to becoming his consort instead, to the ire of the kingdom.

both simple and simplistic; not enough meat with these potatoes to pursue the second volume, and full of the typical problematic dynamics of insufficient character development.

This book is rated Teen and although it doesn't have much in the way of combat so far there is some fighting and even bleeding. There is also some concepts such as Concubines and a moment when tit seems the King of Beasts pushes the sacrificial princess to the bed and moves over her as they talk but nothing to mature happen as she eventually leaves for a bit.

The sacrificial princess in question is named Sariphi or Sari for short. She was basically raised to be a sacrifice to the King of Beasts so her family did not have to sacrifice their true daughter (or so I think it goes) so she is not afraid of death if it should come because she would welcome it before returning to those people and she had no where else to go.

The King of Beast in the mean time has his own plans for the ninety ninth sacrifice Sari and they begin to grow closer together in this strange Beauty and the Beast type story where humans are the odd ones out in a world where beast people of many types roam freely. Only time will tell if Sari can win the hearts of anyone else besides the King, Cy, and Clops. :)

My favorite moment would have to be the reunion of Sari and the King after she is left in a human hospital type place after finding out she has Miasma poisoning. That poor girl has it rough from everyone but I have a feeling it will turn out all right at the end. :)

The artwork was so cute! All the little background creatures were fun to look at and made the atmosphere feel whimsical. The story itself was very sweet. Basically, it's a Beauty and the Beast retelling featuring an unlikely friendship that may or may not turn into more. I'm always a sucker for these types of retellings, so I'm not surprised that I liked this one as much as I did. Would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a quick read or something with cute fantasy artwork.

The character designs are fantastic and the world building great, but this book is sooooo weird. As much as I try, I just can't get into Stockholm Syndrome romances.

I kind of stumbled upon this one today while looking through shoujo to try out and I'm so pleased with it! I was a little hesitant to begin with because it was sort of moving quickly, but by the end I was so on board with this super cute and heartfelt story that I'm already looking forward to grabbing Vol. 2 when I can.

Sariphi was part of the reason I was hesitant, there are times when she is incredibly passive which is admittedly something to opposite of my nature that I tend to have a hard time enjoying, however I understand why and I love the perspective she has. She's just so pure at times, and very giving. I also love when monstrous guys are actually soft when they have someone they care for, and Leo fits that trope so perfectly. The friendship between them is super cute and it's just the best to see how they both get used to what they mean as a couple.

I do have other manga I want to get to soon, but I may have to pick up volume 2 sooner rather than later.

In Summary

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts should have a lot of appeal for fans of Beauty and the Beast stories, especially ones who like anthropomorphic animals. The King of Beasts has an interesting background and carries a ton of emotional baggage, but the relationship between him and Sariphi is simple fairytale devotion. Although hate, prejudice, and sacrifice swirl in the backdrop, the pure love between our main couple is what dominates this story.

The Review

Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts feels like a twist on the Beauty and the Beast genre. In addition, I found the character design of the King of Beasts Leonhard to be quite reminiscent of Disney’s Beast. Both of these male leads are bestial but not grotesque, and while their forms command respect, the heroines also bring out a cuddly side to them as well.

In Sacrificial Princess, that heroine is an ordinary village girl, Sariphi. Her name means “sacrifice” and for good reason. In this world, fear and hate separate beastkind and humankind, and in order to appease the King of Beasts, humans must regularly offer him the sacrifice of a young girl. Sariphi is the 99th offering, but unlike her predecessors, she does not fear the king. Rather, she’s able to see through his fierce facade and see the kindness beneath his ferocious work and actions.

If you like a moody hero who’s hiding secrets and an artless ingenue who can ease his heart, you will probably enjoy this story. Throughout the volume, Sariphi is given warnings or instructions not to do something, but she (always) winds up in trouble anyway. However, rather than annoying the king, those instances (always) endear her to him.

Plotwise, I’m not sure where this series is headed. Chapter 1, which is just under 50 pages, seems like it was originally a standalone story. By the end of that chapter, Sariphi discovers the king’s deepest secret and he declares his intention to make her his queen. Given their circumstances, the pair’s feelings for one another are decidedly steadfast, and it feels like “happily even after” is attained at the very start.

So how does the series push forward? By complicating the politics of the setting. The title King of Beasts makes it sound like Leonhard is the king of ALL beasts, and the book’s opening makes it seem like there are only two groups: the beast people, who occupy a miasma polluted region, and the humans who live beyond the miasma. In Chapter 2, beastkind expands to encompass an international scope. The King of Beasts is only one of a number of beast kings, and it is unclear whether the ritual sacrifice that brought Sariphi to Leonhard has significance for beastkind as a whole or if it’s just a regional tribute.

The main purpose of adding all these extra kingdoms is to introduce would-be rivals of royal rank for Sariphi. As such, the focus is the Sariphi’s insecurities because of these beast princesses, and the world building that justifies their existence seems thrown together as an afterthought. However, if you’re more interested in watching a beast and girl’s devotion play out in different scenarios, those details might not matter to you.

Extras include embedded author’s notes and the bonus manga, “The Beast Princess and the Regular King.”

"To be a source of energy for the king whose powerful fangs and razor-sharp claws would terrify any creature, THAT IS MY DESTINY"

Once upon a time, there was a country at the ends of a world that must not be named, where poison hangs in the air, where humans were never allowed to enter, and in that country of grotesque monsters that presided over humans, there was a fierce king who commanded those hellish creatures

This manga has a beautiful art and lovable-cute-characters. The relationship of Sali and the king are just sOoO SWEET. The king is very thoughtful and protective of Sali, you can tell how much he cares for her and Sali is the only person who understands the king the most. The way the beasts kingdom don't accept Sali as a consort being a human even though the king is somewhat like Inuyasha taking a human form while being a youkai. It is a very interesting read. I like to watch Sali grow and I do believe she will be a great queen with a strong heart.

The supporting characters are also wonderful. The captain Jormundgand is just cool. He and Princess Amit are just perfect. [They are the two image below]

"When you're with me. You don't have to push yourself to do anything at all."
-Sali to the King

"Though a magical creature, I was born with half human blood. Not fully either, an incomplete creature. When the moonlight shines on the night of divine revelation, I take on my other form. A timid creature who simply hides in the darkness waiting motionlessly for daybreak"
-The king

"Saliphie from now on you are a part of me."

"I hereby take Sali as my consort."

"I am the king of this country. My duty is to protect this country and lead my fellow countrymen. Only when I'm with you, I am released from the shackles of the title of King. When you so much as call my name, I nearly forget about the duties I have. I've never thought of anything more than the responsibilities a fake king like me has. But for the first time, I've been thinking that if you're here with me, I can become a sincerely strong king.Stay at my side. That is your duty"

"The woman I desire is you, Saliphie. You are the only one."

-The King to Sali
