Bobby and John Maslen developed the Bob Books, while Bobby was a teacher of 3 to 5-year-olds at a private school in Portland, Oregon. After many years of self-publishing, Scholastic became Bob Books’ publisher in 1995.
I get that the main focus is teaching kids vocabulary and beginning independent reading, but must the illustrations look like they were drawn with a ballpoint pen on a restaurant napkin? There are so many great artists out there who would jump at the chance to illustrate a children's book.
