“It’s a stupid game, and it’s all fake, Maya!” When Ashley found the Ouija board in the attic of their new home she wasn’t interested. But her kid sister Maya was, and who could blame her? Two years earlier, the last thing Maya said to Mom was ‘I hate you!’. Even when she was just 11, the kid had a temper. For the last two years, Maya’s carried that burden, because both Mom and Dad were killed that terrible, terrible night. Sure, it won’t work; but maybe Ashley can fake it and Maya can get some peace. But…it DOES work. Both Mom and Dad came through!
…and so does something else. Something angry. Something hateful. Something dead… Let the games begin…
“A fresh new take on Ouija horror” Bonus Also included with this book is 'Crawley House', my full length Debut Novel!
A writer and reader of eerie ghost novels, Michelle lives in Kingston, ' the limestone city' situated on Lake Ontario, with her husband and 2 pugs. The Hauntings of Kingston series was inspired by an evening doing the local ghost walk. She also writes Paranormal Women's Fantasy fiction under Shelley Dorey. Midlife, divorce and magic...oh my. Her 'Hex After 40' series is soon to be a TV series. Kind of a 'Desperate housewives flavor but with Witches!
Holds your interest. No annoying characters. A new take o the ouiga board. There are a few editing errors but doesn't detract from the story. A great second book is included. Enjoy.
I enjoyed my experience with both the Ouija Conjuring, and with Crawley House, though there were aspects of both that I found to be too neatly wrapped up, and other aspects that were never adequately explained, and so became, in my opinion, superfluous. I won't go into more detail here, as I don't want to spoil anything, but if I ever decide to create a YouTube channel, I may delve into spoiler territory there.
The Ouija Conjuring was a fun read. I found the majority of the characters to be endearing and realistic, though there were some moments where they behaved somewhat out of character. The main characters were pre/teens, and I was a little worried they would irritate me, or I wouldn't be able to relate to them, but I didn't have that problem.
The plot was a little shakey in some parts, and seemed to get a little carried away with itself, but overall it came together to tell an interesting story.
The format for Crawley House was very different, not only from the above, but also from many other similar books in the genre. I wouldn't consider this a spoiler, as it explains it in the Table of Contents, but the first half of the book is set in the 1920s, and sets up the circumstances of the haunting. The second half is modern day, and allows you to experience the consequences of the past. This did have one downfall though, in that it became repetitive when the characters were finding out for themselves the cause of the haunting and the history of the house. It was also difficult to try to connect with the characters' fears surrounding not knowing what was going on, when I knew perfectly well.
There were some irritating aspects of this book. The dialogue sometimes came across as clunky and unnatural, but mostly in the second half. Also, the author used a lot of exclamation points, even in the narration, outside of dialogue. Here and there, it probably would have been ok. But she did it so often it became distracting, and I don't think, for me at least, that it conveyed the tone she wanted it to convey.
The first half of the book was definitely the stronger half. Everything was still a mystery, and while some things felt left unexplained, the conclusion was satisfying. The second half was a little weaker. I smashed through the first half in one sitting, absolutely hooked. The second half was read a bit slower.
All in all though, Crawley House was a great debut novel, and I enjoyed my experience with it, and with the Ouija Conjuring. If you are a fan of horror, especially ghost stories, I would recommend these books, and I would absolutely read more from this author in the future.
I read across all genres and have a kindle unlimited subscription but usually read authors I know the first book in this series came up on my recommended reads so I took the gamble and it paid off. It did have the feel of young adult book whether this was due to young characters or deliberate I’m not sure. Great story lines, definitely not bedtime reading if you’re wanting something to fall asleep with. I found the boys a little too stereotypical and disliked the overuse of the word “man”. I don’t know how this series will progress but I would love to see Jake and Preston’s characters expanded even a spinoff of the two maybe?
Ashley and Maya have lost their parents to a car accident and are living with their aunt Clair when they move into a new house in the country and find a Ouija board, hoping to make contact with their parents they along with their friend Leah attempted to talk to their parents but they bring something else through.what does this spirit want?why is the spirit of the girl skylar attaching to them? This is a great book! Remember to always beware of a Ouija board.
When I first starting reading this book I thought that it was taken from a movie that I saw but, it was a total different twist on a Ouija board. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters. Once the story was finished the author included another story of her's in the book which was also very interesting. I'd recommend reading this to anyone who likes the paranormal.
Read like a young adult novel. The book was too long and one note. The two teen girls felt to me like they acted younger than the age they were supposed to be. The adult characters seemed very two dimensional. The romance aspects seemed contrived and developed in five seconds. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I actually did finish the book.
I loved this book ... I love this author! I highly recommend it to anyone who is curious about the paranormal ... This author describes something I have experienced and hope never to experience again.
This is the first time reading a story by this talented author and I was very intrigued by both of the stories in the book. The second story, about the Crawley House was my favorite.
This is the sort of book you could take with you on holiday. Easy to read, put down and pick up again later. A non-scary tale of the supernatural and one with a satisfactory ending.
The characters were well developed and I liked the story overall. However, the end seemed rushed and too easily tied up. I will check out more books by this author though in order to see what her other novels read like.
As for paranormal stories goes, this is another really good story. The characters are well defined in the beginning, which helps dramatically when you get into the bones of this mystery.
My copy is titled "A Grave Conjuring" and also includes the story "Crawley House" in the same edition. Enjoyable and actually a bit unpredictable, but still too neatly wrapped up & without enough suspense before the reveals. Glad I picked it up, will read more by this author!
Both stories were ok, the second better.than the first. But I can't understand how the publication is marketed as a single novel. Why not just tell us we're getting two short stories?
Thought this was a well written paranormal story. Kept my interest til the end. The bonus novel was a nice surprise and was well written, too. Looking forward to more from this author.
Wow! Loved the story, and The Crowley House was mesmerizing!! Looking forward to more from Michelle Dorey! Fixing to look up Haunted In. And The Demon and Me!!!! Can’t wait!!!!
Truly enjoyed this ghostly mystery! The characters were interesting and the story line and plot were riveting. I've extremely enjoyed every book I've read by Michelle Dorey. She's an amazing author and well worth checking out.
I don't know exactly which genre this falls under, but I would classify it as a YA supernatural thriller. The story was a little slow for me, but it was a well-written book, with a fairly original premise. A fun little read, all in all.
It was very predictable...I enjoy all her books this one was just not her usual style of writing. I simply ENJOYED. CRAWLEY HOUSE I couldn't Put it down I give that story 5 stars!!!
It was really one of these stories that one just had to read from beginning to end. I'm glad their was a good ending but I won't spoil it.just got to read for yourself👻👻👻👻
