Nothing could be lovelier than this classic guide to the language of flowers, illustrated with original, delicate, and crisp full-page watercolors. “This whimsical reference defines the symbolic meaning of flowers. Combined with lines of verse, historical tidbits and illustrations, this is a great guide for selecting the perfect flower for any occasion.”— American Rose.
A nice, short little book on the meanings of flowers across the ages. Each entry is about a paragraph long for each flower, with a page across exhibiting art of the flower being described. I found it pleasant to read alongside one of Marjorie Blamey's flower guides. It is helpful to have another flower guide at hand to see a different representation of the flowers mentioned, because it gives a depth of understanding on perhaps why, they were associated with the meanings.
This is a beautiful book full of lovely artwork and snips of poetry. It explains the origins of the flowers meanings whether from history, mythology or religion. I mainly love it for the artwork which I could look at for hours. With each page I turned I was more and more impressed by the artist. This book was originally published in France under the title Le langage des fleurs by Editions du Chene--Hachette Livre. I will certainly be keeping this book in my permanent library.
