Aini and Thane have become two of my favorite characters this year. I have much enjoyed their journey and I felt part of their crew. This was a really good conclusion to the trilogy and I wish there was more!! For more visit my blog!

A super fantastic series!! Here's my review for book 2, no spoilers. Book 1's review was deleted by GR 😑
Aini and Thane's journey continues. They have some really great personal growth. They learn more about their feelings for each other, their destinies, have some adventures, search for some new alleys. More magically enhanced candies. 🍬 More ghosts. Twists and surprises. Definitely kept me on my toes!
Vera is growing on me! She's got some attitude but I like her.
Bran is such an awesome friend to Thane. They're more like brothers. He has an added POV, which I love!!
Alisha did a wonderful job raising the stakes and increasing the fun!

An interesting and unique historical fantasy that combined mythology, fantasy and yummy but deadly sweets!
This story was fast paced and full of action and adventure. The characters were entertaining and fun to read!

What an enjoyable and fulfilling trilogy...Every page is filled with romance, intrigue, magic, mystery, courage , history...I loved all of the characters , fighting for justice and truth..and felt like I was part of their team...Eloquent, clear and real creative writing , which makes your experience real to life...no words lost..every page is richly written...!

4.5 stars! This was an excellent trilogy, building tension and story throughout the three books to an exciting and pulse pounding crescendo. A brilliant mixture of an 18th century style Scottish rebellion with an alternate modern day world, complete with cars, phones, technology......and magically altered candy!!
The main characters, Aini and Thane remain solid and stalwart, battling through deception and heartache, pain and joy, but never seeming to lose their strength or their connection to each other. All the while, the other members of this rebel party are equally intriguing, and add a wonderful level of personality to the story. Cheeky Miles, sweet and loyal Neve, strong and sassy (a little bit scary) Vera, and further along, loyal and true Braughn. They each added their only specia touches to the story as well as helping to shape the main characters as they grow into their destinies. The “bad guys” of the story, Earl Nether, Jack, even King John, while infusing plenty of fear and tension, weren’t as fleshed out, but still managed to be effective as a driving force to the rebellion, so the impact wasn’t significant. Their driving force really seemed to stem from money and power, and there was little to expand on or clarify this.
The pacing moves along at a good clip, and the tension builds in each book to a crescendo, as it also does throughout the trilogy, sucking you in and keeping you invested in moving forward and seeing how this could all play out. Overall, it is very effective storytelling.
The narration is quite good, as well. She doesn’t try too hard to create the different characters voices, but they are still recognizable from each other pretty well, and the accent differences are done well. The tone and pace are done well, and work very congruent with the story.

From start to finish I was enraptured with the idea of an alternate, present day Scotland. I've been sort of on an Outlander kick so anything set in Scotland is a delicious win amiright? This series is steeped in folklore and legend, you get a cause worth dying for, an epic prophecy and it's wrapped up in a pretty fantasy ribbon.
Aini MacGreggor and her father have been experimenting with enhanced candies. Little treats that pack more than just a sweet-tooth punch. They hold the power to change the entire course of Scotland's present day Monarchy. Aini is also a secret "sixth-senser", that's right, in this Scotland, there are those with secret powers that if shared, can cost them their lives. When her father is abruptly kidnapped, it shatters Aini's perfectly calculated world into pieces and leaves her pushed to her limits to figure out why, and to get him back. With the help of her closest friends, the plot thickens with a budding rebellion, alliances questioned, and a love blossoming despite all the odds stacked against it.
This series was the perfectly paced plot to keep you reading straight for hours and hanging off of every words. The romance is lush and fierce. The friendships are strong like cement. And the urge to become part of something greater than yourself is powerful. I had SO much fun reading this series. Twists and turns galore, I can honestly say I was on the edge of my seat for most of this ride. The ending left me breathless and watery eyed. The moment I read the last word, I wanted to restart all over again. Do yourself a solid favor and pick this series up!

Waters of Salt and Sin #1 - A well written, fast paced, fun adventure with well developed, likeable characters and a well thought out plot that keeps the reader immersed in the story. The author does a wonderful job with her descriptions. 4*

Finally got to the boxset.
I started this series a while back, picking up book 1 because of that gorgeous cover. And I loved that it featured a fantasy food element, in this case candies that could imbue the eater with strength or make them float. Very cool.
Not to mention the setting, which is set in a modern Edinburgh, Scotland, if England still had a reigning king and the United States were merely the Colonies. It sometimes has an old-fashioned feel to it, but there's the use of cell phones and cars that makes this modern.
Having read book 1 so long ago, it took me a little to get back into the story. There are a lot of things and people at play.
Once I got back into the story, I enjoyed it. It's a smooth read with some really unique elements and I kept wondering how in the world this was going to end.
Personally, though, I found it difficult to fully delve into the lives of the characters. This made some of the stakes a little less impactful, and the romance between the two main characters a little lack-luster, despite their obvious attraction to each other (especially at odd moments, like when running for their lives). And to be honest, the ending was almost felt anti-climatic in some ways.
Overall, a great read, and entertaining, though. If you like innovation in your fantasy, and series you can binge-read, this trilogy is a great way to go.

At first, I was disappointed at the lack of supernatural in this. Truly her being a Seer is important to the plot but not in the way I expected But reading through Books 2 & 3, I understand the world and how perfect; ly intune her abilities were.
This is a story of rebellion with a touch of special powers. Once you understand that, it's a strong story and the Seer will play a pivotal role and that pushes the reader forward to the next in the series. Each entry contains a story within itself but creates a wonderful overall arc. I enjoyed the action but was also touched by the quiet moments as well.
I have to say I loved the candy. It was an unusual touch that was fun and gave the story an edge.
The narration was much better than the others I have heard recently. The narrator is engaging but is best when narrating the dialogue of those with the Scottish brogue.
Overall, this was enjoyable especially when I truly understood the story.

Loved this alternate world setting ... So glad they're sold as one set ... didn't want to put each one down and wait for the next. The basic overview is that the stories are set in a Scotland under repressive English rule, at a similar technological level to ours. The Scots have a prophecy that a king and seer will arise to free them. Aini is the daughter of an altered sweet maker (eat the candy and run faster, be stronger ....). Her coworker, Thane, is the son of the ruler of the Campbell clan, which works closely under King John, to enforce his laws. Lots of action, mystery, and some clean romance. Humour, too. Book 2 seemed a bit slower than books 1 & 3, but I still didn't put it down! SPOILER ALERT: don't read further ....Thane is working undercover for his dad; in book 1 they don't know who he is. It turns out that Thane & Aini are the Heir to the throne, and the Seer, respectively. In books 2 & 3 they fight to free Scotland. I received ARC copies of these books; this is my honest opinion.

This story takes place in an alternate history. America is still an English colony, some people posses magical sixth senses, and chemists create confections that would amaze even the kids in the world of Harry Potter.
Scotland is a nation oppressed. The fabled coronation stone is the only thing that can choose the prophesied heir. The heir to the throne who will rule Scotland and drive out the English king for good.
I love the characters in this series and I'm glad I got to listen to it all at once. It is one complete story with each book following close behind the events of the one before it.
The narrator did an amazing job of giving each character their own voice and she did the unique accents of each nation and region as well.
I highly recommend listening to this complete trilogy compilation rather than getting each book on its own.

A must-read series if you love fantasy, amazing world-building, or romance! Klapheke creates such a lush, detailed world that you stop reading words and find yourself on the streets of Edinburgh, near a coastal fort, and in underground tunnels. The candy angle was such a novel, interesting idea and the execution has me wishing they were real. I loved the characters so much too. They are so multi-dimensional and have such unique personalities, they'll stick with you long after the series is over. Klapheke has once again demonstrated her incredible writing talents and after reading both of her series, I'm hooked and look forward to whatever she writes next.

I enjoyed reading The Edinburgh Seer trilogy. I was hesitant when I started reading the first book in the series as it opened with a scene in a candy making shop, albeit magical, but I'm glad I carried on.
I felt the storyline grew the more that I read. The second and third books ramp up the conflict in an intriguing way with nice twists. As such, I would rate Book One with 4 stars and Books Two and Three with 5 stars.
The premise of the story is unusual in that it is set in modern times with revisionist UK history and the use of medieval weaponry is an integral element of the story. It worked for me, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
I felt the storyline grew the more that I read. The second and third books ramp up the conflict in an intriguing way with nice twists. As such, I would rate Book One with 4 stars and Books Two and Three with 5 stars.
The premise of the story is unusual in that it is set in modern times with revisionist UK history and the use of medieval weaponry is an integral element of the story. It worked for me, and I look forward to reading more of her books.

This was not my favorite read from this author that I like. In all fairness I believe it was because this series is geared to YA. Regardless I read the entire series, just found myself skipping over sections and pages that I didn’t find relevant or because they were seemed like “filler”. I felt like the series could have been better done in 2 vs. 3 books rather than having to “fill pages” or reach a certain word count.
I recommend reading if you’re a YA and certainly recommend her other books/series, regardless of age, that I more “adult” and more enjoyable.

The Edinburgh Seer Trilogy is everything I expected and so much more! Thane and Aini's quest to overthrow King John and Thane's father's tyranny and rise to their fated roles as Heir and Seer of Scotland is a rough one indeed. The storyline is fast-paced and well written, filled with magic, danger, intrigue, mystery, subterfuge, adventure, politics and romance. The characters are well developed and engaging. The scenes are so well written, you feel as if you are fighting for Scotland right alongside the rebellion. Overall, this is a great series that should not be missed!

Ok, this is just a a “quickie” review. Unfortunately, I’m in in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time to do better - even though the books in this boxset definitely deserve it.
Bottom line: five stars. This was one wonderfully fun set of novels and definitely recommended. Each of them is worth five stars. They had just what I wanted and were well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters.

A riveting series!
Suspenseful! A group of young people rising up against a corrupt kingdom, backed by faithful followers/friends, and pitted against an evil king and clan leaders. Loyalty, betrayal, love and friendship. Full of twists, turns, and surprises with a fast pace. Four and a half stars, because book four was a bit hard to follow at times... or maybe I was reading too fast just to find out what happened next!

This series, set in 2017, was hard to get into. For me fantasy stories evoke images of other worlds and amazing technology. This series has none of these elements. Modern day vehicles don't fit in a "fantasy" setting. There are many inconsistencies within each novel that kept pulling me out of the story. There is also mild profanity.

Enjoyed overall
I enjoyed this series, and it was nice having the trilogy and not having to wait for the next book. The characters were fun, I liked the enhanced candy concept but feel it could have been taken even further. Same with the 6th sense abilities. Some of the last book was a little rushed and confusing, but overall I liked the story, the alternate future, and the romance.

Edinburgh like we don't know it. With a false, evil king, a rebellion and a touch of magic. It is set in (a sort of) contemporary time, but parts of it feel like you're in medieval Scotland, combined with a WWII resistance. And with a lot of friendship and a touch of romance, between the fighting and danger.
I just couldn't put it down!

Read and Enjoy
This is a series that I enjoyed reading. The characters are well fleshed out and easy to like. This fantasy keeps your turning pages with all the action. You want to know what is going to happen next. It has good, evil, and even love. I recommend this series to read and enjoy.

Unique and lovely
Absolutely loved this series. Characters are well developed, have diverse traits and work very good to make this series rich. The whole storyline is interesting, with the usual good vs bad, plenty of tense moments and happy resolution. Love the enhanced candy concept. Eager to read more from this author.

Magic, chemistry gone wild & another world
Political intrigue and fantasy abounds in a parallel world to ours where Scotland responds to its rightful Kim and heir, with the help of his beautiful Seer, of course. Fairly cleanly told tale that brushes a bit too close in descriptive sex for me.

Couldn not stop reading
I enjoyed this read, loved Thane and Anni, there were portions I felt could have used more descriptive elements, like delving a wee bit more into Scottish lore and history, still I did not quit turning the pages, it held my interested. Because of that, 5 stars for me

Pure
Great series. From first book to last the action will keep you on your toes. Fast paced, sometimes comical, sometimes too real, a very good read. The characters are very memorable. The storyline is old but made new. Overall one of the best series I've read recently. Enjoy!

Interesting Premise
I wanted to like this trilogy more than I did. I love the occasional young adult fantasy . The premise was interesting. I enjoyed the alternate timeline. And I didn't mind the characters. But I found myself skimming over pages frequently - especially the first two books. And overall the story fell a little flat. Maybe witnessing the right fit for me.

Inspiring
Unique story that blends new technology with some old, plenty of action and wickedness that has you rooting for the main characters. Well made characters, good world building, action, romance, drama, and the unknowns that surprise when least expected. Could have been longer since it ended abruptly which is a little disappointing.
