"There are so many spiritual weapons available to us, of which most Christians are not aware and which they are not using in their battle against the enemy...This Present Glory addresses the current situation within the Body of Christ, concerning the subject of warfare. For too long the Body of Christ has focused on the "darkness," which is in the world, rather than the "light," which is the Lord." (Rodney Howard-Browne, This Present Glory)

This book was not what I expected...it turned out to be better than what I expected. I expected this book to talk about the glory of God, but it ended up being a book on spiritual warfare, and the weapons that believers have in their arsenal against the world, the flesh and the devil. The author says, "A number of years ago, a book called This Present Darkness was published, which seemed to negatively affect many people's theology. It became so popular that many people treated it as if it was the Gospel, but it was really just a spiritual-fantasy fiction novel. As Christians, we should not be focusing on what the enemy is doing, but should rather be focusing on the reality of This Present Glory, and all that is ours in Christ Jesus."

The weapons of our warfare that the author expounds upon are:

● The Finished Work of the Cross
● The Weapons of Praise and Worship
● The Weapon of Giving
● The Weapon of The Word
● The Weapon of The Holy Spirit
● The Weapon of The Name of Jesus
● The Weapon of The Blood of Jesus
● The Weapon of Angels
● The Weapon of Prayer
● The Weapon of Your Mouth
● The Weapon of Your Declarations
● The Weapon of Your Testimony
● The Weapon of The Table of the Lord

I've read a few books on spiritual warfare, and to date this is the best and most comprehensive that I have ever read. If you are a believer, you will have spiritual battles (take it to the bank), but God has given us spiritual weapons for victory! The author says, "Why is it that there are people in the world who do not know Jesus, but they get up every morning, go off to work, and are very successful in their lives. They do great things in the corporate world, and the devil leaves them alone. He does not stop them from achieving their goals, because they are no threat to him...they are already his. Yet many of them don't even know the devil exists. Think about that. The sad fact is they are looking through earthly eyes, and are living only for today.
Then there are the lazy Charismatic, Pentecostal people who know what is ahead at the end of their life here, but they are sitting on their blessed assurance, doing nothing. God doesn't bless the work of the seat of their pants...He blesses the work of their hands."

My favourite chapter in this book was on the Weapon of Praise and Worship. In fact, it is the first weapon that the author expounds upon. I think that is appropriate, as the Bible says, "Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name." God's protocol before approaching Him is to begin with praise and thanksgiving. Even Jesus started his prayer with: "Our Father who is in heaven, HALLOWED be Your Name" (See Matthew 6:9). The dictionary defines "hallowed" as "greatly revered and honored." Sometimes, we forget to praise and give thanks and just jump right into praying for things that we want. This is not correct protocol in the Kingdom of God. I am sure God shows us mercy, and does answer the prayers we pray without following protocol, but He wants us to grow in maturity, just like we learn to say "please" and "thank you" as children.

Great book on spiritual warfare! We have mighty weapons available to us. Time to pick them up and walk in victory in Jesus' Name. This book will suit you up for battle!

This book is one that will stay close. It truly is a handbook on how to live in the light of Jesus.

While I’m not a big fan of the term ‘spiritual warfare’, I recognize that there is a spiritual war going on around us in a realm we do not see with our physical eyes. The focus here is on tools Christians have been given to walk out our faith in the midst of the situations and circumstances of life. It is filled with scripture references and organized by topic so I can come back to particular areas and challenge myself to go deeper with Jesus.

I’m a fan.
