The mad priest gave me everything. Twenty-one years in prison allows a man time to process. To plot. To plan. I’ll take my vengeance in money, in power, and most importantly, on her body. Mercedes Mondego sold me into hell, leading me to the altar like a sheep to a cliff's edge. Every thread I place on the board will wrench together and lead me back to her. Oh, but I’m done with love, and there is nothing left in me except an animal. The mad priest gave me everything to exact my revenge.

I'm so glad I didn't listen to some of the reviews for this book!!! Yes their were a few miss placed words and typo's,but the storyline was awesome and the characters were multi layered and so interesting!!! I've always loved the count of Monte cristo and this twisted version was awesome!!! The steamy hot chemistry between Will(Edmond Dantes) and Mercy started from page one and just kept getting hotter and hotter. What starts out as revenge for being imprisoned for twenty one years turns into game of wills and Mercy is one strong bad ass bitch who has ruled her organization for years by having the balls and smarts to make grown men crumble, but when will takes everything she has and use's her to get revenge on the men who sent him away he gets more then he bargained for! Mercy will test his limits and no matter how much he may threaten her deep down she is getting under his skin and all the self control that priest taught him in prison goes up in flames til all he can do is go mad with lust. What power match these two lovers make!! I so enjoyed this read!! Until next time luv's💖💋
There's a good book in here just crying for an editor to rescue it. So many typos, transposed words, and flat out wrong words that reading was more tedious than enjoyable. It's a shame more attention wasn't paid to such basics before releasing the book.
The Count by Monica Corwin I received this book from the author for an honest opinion/Review. GAH!!! I am such a crazy person for classic lit and I FLOVE the Count of Monte Cristo, so I was soooo on board for this book! The book is obviously a bit different then the original hence the Twisted Classics series name but don’t worry classic friends, you will enjoy this book just as much even with the changes. Will/The Count/ Eddie is after the woman and the men who put him in prison. He is going to destroy them one at a time. But taking HER down is the biggest victory for him. Mercy is the boss. She is ruthless and takes no prisoners which is why she is the one in charge. She put her family away and took over the empire but soon discovers what a rotten empire she has under her. The chemistry between Will and Mercy is great. So many times, I was like JUST TELL HER WILL and then other times I was like GAH WHY DID YOU DO THAT MERCY!!! The story line will keep you on your toes with the action and all the bad guys. I swear this town was like Gotham with all the bad dudes running amuck!! The final chapters when everything comes to the front and we see even more things shake out I legit did a gasp!! I was wondering and hoping and then even more giddy when I read about….eeeep I cant tell you sorry but trust me….if you love classic lit or if you are a fan of Monica’s stories then you will want to pick this one up.
3.5 rounded up I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
This story starts with tossing you right into the story and then things are explained as it goes on. Let me tell you there were so may NO Way and Oh that makes since now moments in this book. It was kind of nice being left in the dark and not knowing until it was time.
Mercy had to do a lot of manipulating to get were she was today. Now there is someone in town that is slowly taking everything she has away from her. She is learning what it is like to be manipulated. There is a new guy in town and he shows no mercy just takes what he wants. He is on a mission to get revenge on all those who have wronged him in the past and that means Mercy too. Mercy has not idea who the Count really is but he knows more about Mercy than she could ever guess.
This is a great plot and there were twists I never saw coming. I have to say the instant connection Mercy and Will have is scorching.
When your lover is taken away to spend twenty years in prison and you help put your soon to be husband and a few family member away a well Mercy now has taken over the family business with the help of only a few that she trust. When a handsome stranger comes and tell her she was going with him she definitely isn’t going without a fight. Little does she know e knows way more about her then she thinks he does. Will Mercy find out who this stranger really is? Will he let her go once he is done using her foot help take down the men that put him behind bars? This is a retelling of a classic story The Count of Monte Cristo, I’m not familiar with the original story so i didn’t have anything to compare it to. Overall it was a very well written story with some crazy twist and turns i didn’t see coming it.
Binge reading a series can sometimes reveal patterns. For this group, it shows similar erotic elements - orgasmic foot rubs, masturbating in a shower, manual, oral, and intercourse skills - interspersed with a more modern version of the classic tale.
The characters fell slightly flat for me, especially secondary ones. The book is written with obvious passion for the source material, but it's a very high bar to live up to. The main characteristics of the lead characters that lingered with me are more about their appearance than their personalities.
The writing can use some help, as there are often typos and mistakes in word choice that jarred me out of the narrative to go back and re-read a sentence. An example:
"When she didn’t respond I traced a thumb down her cheek causing her to jut her chin up. I’d seen her do that hundreds of times. Usually before she might throw a solid right hook. It seemed in the years we’d been apart she’d learned constraint."
This book is very slow, and full of typos and misplaced words. It was very distracting and took from the story. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favorites, which is what drew me to this book. However, it's hard to enjoy a book when the female leads indicates the male lead ran his fingers along the name of her neck, I assume it was supposed to be nape. There were many instances such as this.
