After growing up in California and spending the first ten years of marriage in Colorado, I now live in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with my incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours I spend hunched over the keyboard letting my characters play. I have to say, Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house while it pours rain outside, a fire crackles on the hearth inside, and a cup of hot coffee warms my hands, which kindles my imagination. The intricate and fragile nature of the mind is always fascinating. Having worked with the public through various careers I’ve come to respect the resilience and strength of the human spirit. I’m always trying to capture that spirit in my writing. Currently, I work as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for me. When not writing, I can express myself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.
> Such an odd door. […] But unless there was a balcony he hadn’t noticed from the outside of the house, one would step right into space. The thought unsettled him, though he couldn’t say why, exactly.
Really, Jordan? You don’t know why the thought of walking out a door into thin air is unsettling?
Who doesn't love ghost stories? I loved the surprise of this being a horror short in addition to being a hot read. Jordan and Benny were well-defined characters who were easy to relate to, clearly loved one another, and captured my interest from the opening lines. The creep factor of the attic gradually escalated as their "play" did while the pair explored a trunk filled with old Halloween costumes to see which still "fit." Everything went really quickly from a fun romp to a wicked wrestling match with a supernatural entity whose penchant for violence is as intoxicating as it is horrifying.
I'd absolutely recommend Costumes to anyone who wanted to read a sexy short with an element of the supernatural!
A really good author is able to create vivid pictures in their readers' minds in carefully sculpted passages and that is exactly what Dianne Hartsock does here in Costumes. An eerie bit of fantasy and ghostly drama unfolds along with wickedly, erotic play. A delicious short story for those who love M/M romance.
I enjoyed this story a lot. It was a love story fun story yet thrilling enough to take you on an adventure. For me it had the scariest that kept me turning pages. Good story.
Very descriptive writing conjuring up every scene as if you were there. And the sinister hints along the way to what unfolds in the end. I'd call this one a ghostly drama.
Short story. Started off well, but descended quickly into school yard scares, a possession without any back story and very little understanding of what and why - I assume the lack of pages didn't help, sadly lacked depth.
