Wow! I was blown away again, by another fantastic romantic suspense novel that grabbed me from the start & held on tight so that I read it in record time! "Confusing Hearts" is the 4th stand-alone in the phenomenal Westin Pack world of shifters! I don't know how Ms. Trettel comes up with each, brand new & different story with fantastic descriptions and surprise twists & turns, that somehow tops her previous 5 star books, but she does it! Plus, she gives us those well-defined characters that jump off the pages with witty dialogue that I know will keep readers engaged and turning pages like I did! Even tho I always volunteer to read this author's works, it is without any outside influences, and I buy books, too, when I can :) So I can honestly recommend this to all adult fans of fiction & especially those who love fantasy, PNR and/or shifters! Omg! I can't wait for more, but I will!

Chase Westin is the college man whore and he's got a list of rules:
1. Never sleep with the same girl twice
2. Wait 4 hours before returning a text
3. Never initiate contact via the phone first

I'm sure there were more rules but you get the point. He was in it to "Hit It" and nothing more. So imagine his surprise when he meets his one true mate and she isn't a wolf shifter.

I loved that Jenna wasn't easy prey for Chase and he had to work to win her over.

Another fun read and another creative story from the Westin Pack! This one kept me on the edge of my seat because I knew the shit was gonna hit the fan.

Cat Vs. Dog???

If you've been keeping up with this awesome series about the Westin Pack, then you know that they have never had an inter-species mating, as a matter of fact it's never been heard of in their world of shifters.. They have mated powerful witches and they are not racist by any means, but never different type of shifters.. There are still those shifters that believe in keeping the species pure though.

Chase Westin is the youngest of the Westin siblings, he is away at college for shifters (ARC where he has quite the reputation as the ladies man. Better they call him that than geek, if they find out, after all that's why he keeps his geekiness a secret cause girls don't lust after geeks. One night when on the prowl for his next conquest at the new sorority house, he is slapped with the scent of his one true mate, but how can that be possible there?

Black Panther princess Jenna Lockhart has put her foot down for the first time in her life and asked to go to ARC where all the species of shifters can intermingle even though her father the King is a purist through and through... After all ARC has the best department on her passion Photography. There is one hitch though, the king has her twin and all the other females of his Pride go there, but no intermingling allowed and they all know it. Jenna is taken aback when her cat starts purring in the presence of the brothers of D.O.G. when they come through the door for the party.

If you've been keeping up with this series you'll find that this story is way more intriguing and mysterious than Patrick and Elise's story and will keep you captivated till the end not knowing what will happen from one moment to the next.

I absolutely love how each Weston novel is so very unique with different personalities and differing storylines!! Each new book is such an exciting adventure, and this one was extra exciting! How does Ms. Trettel manage to make me cry with every single book? There is so much heart written into each page! I loved this book because it was not an easy boy meets girl scenario. It was messy and complicated and worrying. Different species mating is not a new concept, but I loved how Ms. Trettel took the plot and kept it fresh and made us wonder and hope for that happily ever after. Jenna really becomes a beautiful being, with individuality and sass. Chase..... well it's awfully good to see him stop his roving ways and be knocked for a loop! I love the confusion he suffered when trying to solve the puzzle. These two together are so sweet and you can't help but root and cheer for them. This just may be my favorite pack story 😉 It was amazing as always to get to still be reading of past characters!! Cannot wait for the next edition 💕

Caught off guard!

I must admit that I was not thrilled to read the 4th book upon learning it was about Chase (wolf) and Jenna (panther). I have been cruising through this series and I was ready to halt. I have read many shifter stories and a few brooches cross species relationships and I hated it. The stories didn't jive and I was honestly going to read the first chapter, a middle chapter, the last chapter and the epilogue. That would give me bear minimum knowledge. Enough to know a little about them and I could move onto Lily's story. Well that was the plan but after the first chapter I couldn't put this book down!
I was so caught off guard! I am so glad I was wrong. Chase and Jenna have become one of my favorite storylines in this series. They were written so well and made so much sense. I loved getting to know them. Chad the squirrel was a complete surprise in this book. I even snorted when he showed up and thought, "what a joke". Joke was on me though. He is seriously funny! Total opposite can be said of Jake. We meet him and because of who he is I don't like him. He makes me want to give this book 4 stars. However, I just came through some heavy stuff at the completion of this storyline and it deserves 5 stars. More plots weaved together and more secrets are discovered. I'm looking forward to book 5. I don't see a "Cole" story (in the series) but I seriously hope that's in the works and I want some more Chad-isms please!

I found this series on Audible Plus and the blurbs were enough to pique my interest so I downloaded the whole Westin Pack series.

This is book 4 and imo is the most cringe so far.

All the books so far seem to be oozing Christian preaching. This book has that, plus seems a bit racist.like literally the Antagonist in the story is the king of the Black Panthers who is "racist" against basically all other shifters, including Jaguars...

In Book 3 we discover that Madelyn was gang r@?€d by a group of Tigers. That group of tigers gets locked in some sort of testing facility for a secret society that protects shifters. She accidentally sets them free and they show up randomly in this book.

The group of 6 which were locked up for the last 7 years decides to return to some "cabin" they used to know. The Cabin is actually a 4 bedroom house on like 30 acres, in this book is purchased by Chase for him and his Jaguar mate Jenna.

Jenna and a friend roll up one day and find the house broken into by the tigers who make them uncomfortable. One of the tigers is a teachers assistant at the college they attend and is the love interest of Jenna's twin.

Jenna calls Chase, Chase calls in the pack, and the pack shows up in a helicopter with Kyle the Alpha, Patrick one of the Betas, Jacob Madelyns human foster father and scientist for the secret society, and Liam and a pregnant Madelyn.

A fight ensues, Madelyn and Jacob are conveniently there to confront her rapists, and Madelyn basically in the span of a few minutes forgives one of the tigers that rped her left her for dead.

This woman has constant anxiety and panic attacks, she had a panic attack upon arrival, but she gets over it during the fight and bippity boppity boo, I forgive you

Another thing that really bugs me is they kill of Chases' best friend. We hear just enough about the best friend, he gets a love interest which is a BFF to Jenna, he decides in the final battle to not stand with the cat shifters despite being a Jaguar and he dies in the battle. It's so anticlimactic and seems out of place for a HEA type of book. Anita, the love interest is now mad at Jenna for him dying in the battle, and in like the next sentence they're back to okay with each other?

Confusing is definitely an appropriate title name

While I've been dying for Lily's story, Chase quickly took his rightful place as the 4th Westin to get his story. It was fun to see him struggle in a whole new way from his siblings.

Even though I've loved all of this series so far, I was surprised that within just a a few chapters I was hugging my pillow with unshed tears in my eyes as I quickly connected to our heroine and her situation.

Absolutely LOVED Chase and Jenna.

The look at college life for shifters in this world is fun without being too quirky. Seeing Chase in a whole new light was also fun. Readers have a certain idea of him from earlier series books, but then we get to see the reputation he chose to build for himself when away from his Pack. Who hasn't reinvented themselves in college? There is also another great supporting cast of friends and family around our main characters, which I believe is one of Ms. Trettel's strongest writing skills. I felt like I was in class, studying in the library and walking the halls of this campus.

I gave the book 4 stars because the challenges came late in the book and were a little underwhelming compared to the foreshadowing, and while I never want to see anyone die, were wrapped up a little too quickly. That isn't to say there wasn't some serious heartache as a consequence of too powerful people who can't listen and wield too much might for their people's own good, because there was, and a piece of my heart was torn out.

But, overall, I highly recommend this book. It is right on par with the rest of the series, and if you don't get as emotionally involved as I do, you'll probably love it even more.

Happy reading!

Confusing Hearts is the fourth book in the Westin Pack Series. You can read this book as a stand alone but you will get greater depth by reading them in order. This book features the youngest Westin, Chase.
Chase is attending college at the shifter college: Archibald Reynolds College. He is your typical upperclassman, attend classes, flirt, party, have one-night stands, rinse and repeat. He belongs to a fraternity that is mostly wolves but a few cats and others. His best friend is a jaguar named Matt.
Jenna Lockhardt and her twin, Tessa are attending college far away from home. Jenna chose Archibald Reynolds College to get away from her overprotective parents. Jenna and Tessa are panther royalty, daughters to the King.
Chase meets Jenna and confusion abounds. He thinks she might be his true mate but sees her again and his wolf disagrees. He has no idea that she has an identical twin. He learns that she is a panther shifter. Can interspecies be true mates? What will Jenna’s parents do if they find out?
Chase and Jenna want to be together and decide to mate despite there being consequences. These consequences could lead to war between the families and packs. There will be casualties.
Be prepared for a heart wrenching story that keeps you turning the pages. This is a sweet love story and some sadness. Through it all the Westin family shines.
Each story about the Westin Pack has been vastly different. Each Westin sibling are similar yet distinct. I can’t wait for Lily’s story.

I am lowkey obssessed with these characters, this series, this world ,this universe. My gods, I need help. i love experiencing all the siblings love lives and everything. Their struggles, their hopes, their dreams, their fears, everything. That being said, some siblings love stories are better than others.

Chase's was...eh. Honestly it ranks third? currently, I think. It just was not that engaging, tbh. I did not care that much about his mate or the whole dynamic. I dont mind the interspecies relationship, but I thought there could have been a lot more conflict. I feel a bit jipped by the end. There was all that tension, for nothing.

I also did not really care that much for Jenna..and the twin thing. It just hurt poor chase. I mean, I like that he got to follow his dreams and his heart, yadayada, but I also wanted more angst. I feel like this did not have the angst and tension like the precious book. Maybe it was supposed to be like that? Because he is supposed to be a carefree college guy? idk.

I guess they were cute together, but they did not really make me 'believe' like Liam and Mady did. BUt honestly, everyone pales compared to them.

I did like the family and loyalty themes in this book, and the strength of a pack and found family.

I will still listen to pretty much anything this woman writes that is free on audible.

I am a type of reader who is hard to please but damn the author surprised me. To be honest when I read other romantic novels I'm disgusted when it comes to the sex part but this one you can felt what is like to be in love, truly in love and they all filled with love not only pure lust. It is very common with other romantic novels, the main character will tell the reader that they love him or her then they also allow themselves to be blinded by lust. Oh come on you made me cringe, if I can slap him or her maybe I already did. Makes me want to puke when they told that they in love with him or her but cannot control their sexual urges to sleep with others.

Back to the this book. The best part is when they found out they are mates, they never stray away from each other. The same with the other novels from this author when I tried skimming them. Definitely defines what true mates or true love is. Even with differences with species they did still pursue what they felt. It simply means that love has not boundaries. The funny part is I wish we are like the characters in the book, when we found our true mate it means that until the end they will be our mate. No matter what race they are, when it comes to love, no boundaries will separate between each other. I'm madly in loved with Chase Westin and Jenna Lockhardt.

The first campus party after the winter holidays was held by the new, elitist, sheltered panther sorority, walking in, BMOC
Chase Westin was ecstatic to inhale a scent more fascinating than any other. Ever! Panther princess, Jenna Lockhardt’s first thought is how muscular and handsome the guys are; the second is how intrigued she is by a scent she can never have.

Jenna’s father, the panther king allowed the women to attend college since it was instilled in them since birth only matings to other panthers would be approved and there were no panthers at the school. Jenna’s receiving signs of a mate call and they’re all coming from Chase. Now how will she tell her mom and dad she’s been bad and disobedient.

For some reason, Chase and Jenna quite vividly captured this reader’s imagination, complete with specific mannerisms and facial expressions. That confessed, it was good to have closure for Maddie and the sweetness of Westin’s embracing new pack plus the pain and pleasure of Chase and Jenna’s romance were well done.

Chase Westin is back at Archibald Reynolds College. The college for shifters when he meets his one true mate. Something has to be wrong, Chase sees his mate at different times on campus sometime the attraction is there and other time there is no attraction at all. Chase is so confused he doesn't know what to think. How can he have a true mate one minute and not the next. To complicate matter more she is not wolf shifter and she is rules but the King of the black panthers who just happens to be her father. The King demands purity, if Jenna accepts Chase as her mate she will lose her family because she will be going against the Kings demand that she find a compatible mate among the black panthers. Finding her on true mate could destroy them both and their families. I loved this book, rebellion, love and choices with harmful consequences.

"Confusing Hearts" by Julie Trettel presents a classic paranormal romance dilemma: forbidden love amidst clashing worlds.

* The story centers on Jenna Lockhardt, a panther princess bound by royal duty to mate within her species.

* Her world collides with Chase Westin, a dog shifter, at college.

* Their instant, undeniable attraction sets the stage for a forbidden romance, as their species are not meant to be together.

* The book explores the tension between duty and desire.

* It delves into the complexities of forbidden love and the sacrifices it demands.

* The concept of "fated mates" is a driving force, creating a powerful emotional pull.

* This is firmly within the paranormal romance genre, with a strong emphasis on shapeshifters.

* The conflict between Jenna's responsibilities and her feelings for Chase creates a compelling narrative.

Disappointing

I've read many books in this series and have enjoyed them all, except this one. There were two specific things I didn't like .First one....Maddie actually forgives one of the guys who gang raped her?!? Because he was " forced" to do it??? What kind of message does that send? It was said that "he's actually a good guy". What the hell?!? A very bad "boys will be boys" excuse and really bad mentality.

Also, didn't like she killed off Matt. I get interesting story line, but it was unnecessary in a HEA book. " My best friend died, oh well." Poor attempt at heart string pulling. And the king gets, away with everything? "Oh well,my bad. Sorry all you dead guys". Ugh.

Love this book

Each time I’m done with a book in this series, I don’t think the next one can top it and this author shows me how wrong I am. This is a great book. I avoid books about young adults but this has a very mature feel to it. Even though they are in college, the characters were all mature adult and I didn’t really notice that they were only 19/20 yrs old.
This book was interesting with its plot about interspecies coupling. I absolutely loved watching Jenna and Chase’s relationship grow and develop. They are so wonderful together and I loved that I got to experience the fun/sweet moments that the Westin family members have to offer. No angst but a few exciting action scenes.
This is a great book and I absolutely have plans to read it again. I highly recommend!

Oh wow this may be my favourite story so far in this Westin pack series.
A forbidden romance between Chase Westin and Jenna Lockhardt...Why is it forbidden you ask !!
Well Chase is a Wolf shifter and Jenna is Panther shifter and intergrating is not allowed, plus Jenna is a princess and her father is King and ignorant towards other animal shifters mixing together.
Love is LOve after all and it always wins no matter what you are.
Chase and Jenna can't stop their bond as they are eachothers one TRUE Mate.
I loved this story it takes place at college and that is how Chase and Jenna meet..
They have so many obstacles if they want to be together and they face them by eachothers side.
This is a great listen narrated by Carly Robins and Joe Hempel who are just AMAZING.
Loved this book

Always a pleasure !!!

Julie is a writing genius. I litterally can't wait for her next book. I am always shocked at how much I love her books because the descriptions do NOT do them justice. I was like, "ugg, a college staged book, so not my thing." But as soon as I got into the second chapter I was in love with this book. I love how Julie does something different with the women in each book. There are too many authors that tend to do "type a" heroines...but Jenna comes off as very different. This book reminds me of the first one in the series, it's like it's Kyle and kels if they met in college and if kels didn't go through heck when she was younger. Julie...you rock!

Good

With any series I read, book 4 is by far without the doubt the hardest book to read/write. You can't keep it too much the same of books 1 through 3 because then the reader gets indignant that it is just the same, and you can't vary too much because then the reader gets indignant that it doesn't feel like it belongs in the series. At least that is my very conflicting opinion. However I did enjoy the 4th installment of the Westin pack. It had enough similarities but some nice variation and also finish some storylines from previous books and started a couple of new ones. It definitely encouraged me to read the ARC books.

Enjoyable shifter romance

This was a very entertaining read. Chase, the youngest of the Westin siblings finds his true mate at college, never expecting her to be a panther shifter instead of a wolf. Jenna is just as shocked as Chase is, especially since her father doesn’t accept anyone other than full-blooded panthers. Despite confusion because Jenna has an identical twin and no one tells Chase until he figures it out when he sees them together. They stay true to each other throughout the book, but her father brings some drama to their relationship. Very enjoyable series.

This was a really good book!

This is so well written. It deals with racism in a different w. Who can say who your one true mate is ? Are they only a one true mate if they are the same color or species? Or does it have to do with what is on the inside that matters most? Are you truly willing to die to defend that belief?
I have really enjoyed each book in the series so far. However this might be my most favorite! I am happy and sad at the ending. I highly recommend this book!

I was disappointed in this book after all the others. It seems to me that the series is going downhill the longer it goes on. The characters aren't as unique nor as engaging as the original characters, and I wonder if Trettel continued the series more for fan than because she had good ideas for them. The story arc extending through the previous books also didn't play much of a role in this one, which furthered my disappointment.

Chase and Jenna.

Can and cat and dog really get along let alone become true mates. According to Julie they can!! Chase and Jenna are just as confused as the rest of us in this classic tale of Cat Vs. Dog. Their mating isn't easy for anyone let alone them, but in the end love really does conqure all.

Chase Westin is the youngest of the Westin clan. He is finding out who he is apart from his family. He is in his third year of college and feels like he is finding himself. After spending Christmas at home he is read to get back into college life and enjoy the rest of his college years. He is not ready for an mate. Though he does want one someday. When he first feels the mate pull he is confused when an unexpected obstacle is thrown in the mix. It has him questioning if she truly is his one true mate at all.

Jenna just wants to be out from under her family. She has always been the good girl and the one to make her parents happy. Going to the ARC has cast the watchful eye of her father to move her entire sorority with her, he even make her twin sister join all the same classes. Rebelling for the second time in her life Jenna transfers some of her class to what she wanted to study and that is were she officially meet Chase.

When they discover what each other are they know that things could never progress between the two of them. The only problem though is their mate bond. After finally moving past the reality of who they are together and accepting their mate bond new problems arise. They face it together and prevail in the end. Their victory however comes at a cost. Read this book if you are up for wars both physical and metaphorical. This one will take you for a ride of emotions that will end with true love.

Confusing Hearts

I'm so mad that Matt died. I knew wish they had punished the tigers that raped Maddie, so annoyed that Jenna's twin was dating one. Even if Jack was young he could have found a way to report what happened , I guess her being dead was the better option. He was lucky Maddie had a forgiving heart. I love how each book still includes people from the previous one, so we know what is going on in their lives.

(Audiobook read)

I gotta say I really enjoyed books 3 and 4 in this series way more than books 1 and 2. I’m glad I kept listening. I wasn’t sure based on the description if I wanted to read this one, but I ended up like the characters and the story a lot. This didn’t feel like a super common theme for a shifter book (not that I’m an expert by any means) so I liked that it wasn’t something I’ve read before.

The further into the series I get the more I like the authors approach on this series. She isn't writing the same plot for every book with different characters, and that is one of the best parts about this series.

My only complaint- a lot of infomation about previous books is repeated in detail which I find annoying. I feel I don't need to be reminded of other characters back story if I'm reading the series.
