Douglas Niles is a fantasy author and game designer. Niles was one of the creators of the Dragonlance world and the author of the first three Forgotten Realms novels, and the Top Secret S/I espionage role-playing game. He currently resides in Delavan, Wisconsin with his wife, Christine, and two Bouviets, Reggie and Stella. He enjoys playing his guitar, cooking, and visiting with family.

I read this when it first came out, it was one of my first introduction to dragonlance. I remember really enjoying it when I first read it. The second time through is still quite enjoyable, and I remembered the story quite well even after all these years. I have to say that I really enjoyed the Wizards of the three orders oh, I think they're an interesting idea. After re-reading this book I now have plans to read the rest of the series, I think that's only about two hundred books.

The narrator

The narrator does not do the story or any of the books justice. He is not that good. So if you like audio books this series is not a good one to listen to. I like the books though!

Entertaining pulp. Nothing really to recommended it unless you like reading about wizards and are passably familiar with Dungeons and Dragons. None of the characters are terribly interesting and the author gets into creepy territory with the young heroine in the story.

DNF around 50%. Just... got bored. Young adult crap. The characters are a farcical parody in this day and age of fantasy fiction and the story is slow and too simple. Maybe you'd like to go bounce a ball if you call yourself a fan of the book.

For some reason, I went back and finished it. The last half was better, but still overall an unsatisfying read. The big baddie was a ridiculous stereotype, Coryn a Mary Sue and the whole book basically one big fight. Editorial-wise, there were a lot of mistakes with Coryn's name that left out the N, so it was slightly weird to read about her "twin brother" and her switching back and forth intermittently and randomly. It made for unintentionally hilarious reading.

I just finished this one last night. It did rely on the reader having previous information about the Tower of High Sorcery and moon-based magic, the story was pretty good and I liked the characters. Occurring just after the end of the War of Souls and the return of the gods, we see Dalamar, Jenna, and an aspiring mage battle an evil wild magic user for control of thr Tower at Wayreth Forest. If you didn’t like the War of Souls, maybe this return to form, as it were, will make you feel better. I didn’t mind the War of Souls but definitely love the return to traditional Krynnish magic.

Also kaum zu glauben dass dieser Roman von Douglas Niles ist....

Dalamar und Jenna stümpern herum, das tut echt schon weh beim lesen. Alle Charaktere sind flach und eindimensional, die "Bösewichte" würde man am liebsten überblättern.

Die Geschichte ist haarsträubend. Die Wendungen nicht nachvollziehbar und woher die Protagonisten überhaupt wissen was sie tun sollen bleibt ein Rätsel.

Ein Roman der überflüssigen Sorte.
