As a person in recovery, I enjoyed reading this "devotional" as a daily reminder of the small things I need to do to stay sober. For me, this meant looking to God as the keeper of my sobriety. It is the Lord Jesus who keeps me sober. I can do nothing apart from the Soverign Lord of the Universe. If the daily spiritual faith is kept strong, then I can rest assured the integrity of sobriety will remain intact. Even during those times of weakness, I can count on the Great Shepard to work in my soul to remain of sound mind and body. This book is a great supplement to spiritual faith, not a replacement.
I took the book off the shelf in 2009 and have been using it as part of daily meditations ever since. The idea is good: a quote from the basic AA texts followed by a reflection by an AA member, but the selections could be better. Still, it's worth using, if for no other reason than to be reminded everyday of the truths contained in the quote.
I remember when this book first came out and back then I would have rated it 2 stars, but it has grown on me. The writing is uneven since it is a collection of submissions from members of Alcoholics Anonymous, but it works well enough as long as one remembers that these reflections are the opinions of individual AA members. If you disagree with what you read, good for you. You are thinking. Just read the next one and keep on going. There is always something to contemplate.
Daily Reflections is AA Conference Approved literature, but before it was published AA members used other daily readers such as the "Twenty-Four Hours a Day" book. and it remains very popular.
I've read through this book several times, one page at a time, on a daily basis but not consistently.
Just not that good. everyday I open this hoping for the philosopher's stone and usually I get lukewarm milk. I appreciate the concept behind this but I swear most of this was written by ChatGPT from the 50's. Hal9000? That you? Look for your recovery elsewhere.*
*Magical tip - focus on keywords and ignore the terrible composition. There is some continuity in terms of the construction of this book and it flows throughout the year. The writing is just oh so....bad.
I love this book! I read it everyday. Everyday, every reflection I read I can relate it to what's going on with me in my life. It's a book of God shots for me. It's always something I either needed to read or wanted to read from this book of reflections. Not to mention it's a book that I can take with me for the rest of my life.
I am always trying new morning meditation books. Of all the 12 step based ones I have read, this is really NOT my favorite. Its great, but I prefer something with a little more depth. This seemed very cookie cutter AA.
I've been in the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and worked the program for 18 months with a sponsor, and my life has completely changed for the better. I tried half measures with this program for 3 decade's and in that time my drinking to me to the gates of death and insanity, but once I worked this program 100% to the best of my abilities, my life has got better day by day. The obsession to drink was lifted within days, and then the hard work began on all the wreckage I've caused. I'm still working through that, but have found out more about myself in the last 18 months than I have in all the 47 prior years..... If you're new or struggling, I recommend you give this thing a shot. You have nothing to loose but give it 6 months of everything you've got and watch your life change.
I suggest you take some notes with the note taking abilities of your reader app so you can see how you are reacting every year to the same readings? We’re all growing, all the time and our perspectives are in a constant state of flux so it’s best to write them down. I do it so I and those that come after can see how I’m evolving in AA over time. It can be like your own personal journal about AA and how it connects and interacts to you and your life and your way of living. You can pass on your book and notes to another who may benefit from your insight?
A well edited daily exposition on the steps of the world famous Alcoholics Anonymous program. Each day is a brief statement about recovery and a member's exposition on it. The pages for each month are primarily written to correspond with the step of the same number of the month. The book is thought provking and inspiring.
A great book that has stood the test of time. Each day features a short passage from one of the AA approved books plus a short anecdote or analogy to help us focus on the day. It works its way through the year starting with Step 1 in January and ending with Step 12 in December so it's a great resource to read over and over again.
At time purile and sanctimonious but important for any alcoholic to understand and to put into practice. As a Christian I find the refernce to God as rather wearing; it is the addict alone who can remdy their addiction.
I am not real big on the god/higher power concept. In fact, I am an Agnostic Atheist. So, spiritual writings just do not do it for me. I was given this short book, read it and passed it on to one of my sponsees. He loves it absolutely. I am happy a higher power works for him.
A wonderful daily devotional read with short, relevant messages each day. A great help to me in both early and later stages of my sobriety. I read it every morning to start my day with the right outlook and mindset.
This is my daily inspirational reads. Great book. Highly recommend to read if sober life is what you desire. Full of good short I can relate to. Must have to achieve your goals.
A wonderful book of thoughts collected from various A.A. sources for your daily routine. Each month corresponds to a step (Jan., Step one...etc.) and keeps the mind in step work. Highly recommended for the seasoned drunk or the still wet newcomer.
I started my journey of reading this book, unsure of what to expect, what to gain and what to learn. The insights garnered on the pages were often timely and refreshing, and I found myself actively reaching for this book day after day. It gave me power and strength.
Inspiringly guides our daily intentions and thoughts. A great little book to be consulted in daily basis for a solid living of one of AA’s mottos- just for today I shall not drink.
I read this every morning, and it helps me look at things in a different way, shifting my focus from anxiety about the coming day and the people in my life and instead toward gratitude and seeking ways to be of service (or at least compassionate).
I still have this book. Each page will have an inspiring message and follows the calendar. You open it up to whatever day you're on and read a passage that will be helpful and inspiring for you to stay on track.
