When a tip about four mysterious suicides that happen in an upscale hotel in New Orleans, LA lands on her desk, she packs a bag and heads to the Big Easy to investigate.

Its like a CW show was bought by HBO and revamped with higher stakes, steamier love scenes and more relatable characters.

I enjoyed the fact that this book wasn’t just about a coven of Creole men in search of their destined wives. Oh there is so much more. The premise of the book is a reporter, Toni, comes to Jericho Laveau’s family hotel to write a piece on some suspicious murders that have been occurring in said hotel. Little does Toni know how entwined she and Jericho’s families are, but she finds out very quickly.
Its important to know that this is part one in a new series much different than anything the author has written in her past. I can honestly say that she did an awesome job laying a foundation for this suspenseful paranormal read. We have two warring covens and an impending apocalypse, but the reasons driving this apocalypse are not cut and dry. Everyone is a piece to the puzzle and has a part to play.

Good plot...the execution though

Honestly I wanted to love this book, it's the kind of storytelling that I gravitate towards. He premise of an orphaned Black girl/woman, discovering her supernatural lineage and along the way, finds love. Brilliant. But there were several moments in the story that had me cringing. This story had a lot of potential to be great, hopefully the author takes her time to flesh out the sequel to fix the glaring issues in the first book.

I've read lots of books by Ms. Nelson/Welch. I loved the Medlov Men and their women. Her interracial Mafia series are very good as are her other books. When I saw this Warlock book was written by Ms. Welch, I didn't hesitate to one click it.

This was entirely different than any of her other books but was even more fascinating. I love to read paranormal books, especially those about angels, vampires and werewolves. I've not read much about warlocks or witches because I usually pass on those. However, because Ms. Welch was the author, I took a chance and am so glad that I did. This is not as well-written with fully developed backstories for the characters as I've come to expect from her writing. I know Ms. Welch will correct the flaws in the storyline and, hopefully the editor will do a better job correcting the grammatical errors. As it is, you have terrific "good" witches and warlocks and the "bad" blackhearted ones. There are so many stories that can come from this one book and they should be as interesting as the Medlov Men.

This book encompasses southern historical truths, interracial couples, not just bwwm, back stories yet to be fully developed, suspense, an intriguing plot and so much more. I can't wait for the next book. This is not a cliffhanger but the beginning of a most promising new series

Personally I felt like if the author just stuck with witches/warlocks as the only paranormal aspect of the book this could have been something. But she lost me when she tried to tie in angels, archangels & prophecies. It didn’t make any sense to me.

And the final fight of the book was stupid. How does Toni go from knowing zilch about witchcraft/magic(?) to all of the sudden shooting & dodging fireballs with her hands?! Make it make sense.

I was also confused as to how the FMC was able to quit her job as a reporter so easily & abandon giving the story of the 4 suicide girls justice like ahe said.

Here is a quote from the book, “Now that she had spoken to the families and gotten a better idea of who the women had been, she had to make their individual narratives come alive by writing a piece that did the women justice, and demanded action on a local, if not national, level.” There was a lot of work done to find out these girls stories & the circumstances surrounding their death only for it to go **nowhere.** its the whole premise of the book how could the author just abandon that.

TW Chapter 15 also suggests INCEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The author had enough of a right mind to not include the nasty bit of them actually doing it into the book but still knowing that it happened? 🤮

1.5 star if only i knew how to give halfs on here…

So I am giving this book a 3 stars. I really wanted to love it, but I ended up just liking it. I felt like the story was very rushed and the characters were barely developed . The romance between the two main characters was way to insta love and not very grounded for me. The world building of the story was also lacking, and I felt like things was were just thrown in.
However, I understand that this is Latrivia First paranormal book so I have hopes that her story will just get better with time because she is a phenomenal author. Her Medlov books are some my favorite stories, and I know that she has what it takes to write stories that are well planned and thought out.

For this story, I didn’t connect with the characters because I didn’t really get to know them in the book before they were thrown into fulfilling a prophecy. Like I said, everything was just too rushed but there is potential for growth.

All is revealed!
What was hidden for Toni St John about her life is revealed to her. She knew of her adoption and had no need to find her natural parents until strange things started happened in New Orleans at the New Bourbon Hotel. She felt this strange pull to its owner Jericho Laveau. As she di the investigations for her newspaper article, disturbing resemblances were seen between she and the 4 girls that committed suicide. Until Jericho’s brother Jules removed the blind spot from her mind to enhance her insight to what was going on. It was not until Jericho’s father Lafayette and other brothers cast a spell that Toni found out what and where her true nature and gifts came from and whom she was destined to be.
Latrivia wrote a very interesting well plotted mysterious paranormal story that held my attention through out.

A New Venture

I first read this story as a part of Creole Nights and really enjoyed it. That story is the foundation of this standalone. In this tale we meet a powerful Warlock coven and the mystery woman that is a reporter who arrived in New Orleans to investigate a rash of strange suicides. The attraction between Jericho and Toni is intense and fiery. They finally give in to the attraction and it sets off a chain of events that were foretold in an ancient prophesy.

This is a venture into tHe paranormal realm for Latrivia Welch and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to the conclusion of this tale.

Like a well crafted beer!

Please don't leave your readers desperately awaiting the second book to this wonderfully crafted book, for a decade! For this to be your first attempt at writing a paranormal book, you did well young grasshopper..lol. I enjoyed Jericho's and Antonia's journey to find one another. The twists and turns. The biblical references. The Angels, witches and Warlocks, all outstanding written. The read had layers and a well developed storyline. Nothing seemed rushed, not even the sex scenes. Great job Mrs. Welch! Great job!

Enjoyable

This was an enjoyable read. I would have liked a little more depth in the character development though. The storyline was good, and Toni is strong yet vulnerable st the same time. I'd like to know more about the other Laveau Warlock brothers as well. Will Layfayette return to give aid? Is Martha actually gone? If not, what's that about? Will Abigor keep his sister, or did he only need her for one thing? Will the Laveau brothers get any assistance?
All in all, it kept my interest and I'm looking forward to the follow on book.

Awwwesome!

This book was something I've never experienced and have always wanted to see in a paranormal novel; God. I know it sounds crazy but if you believe in the supernatural or read about supernatural you have to add it the One who made it all, right? It was wonderful to read and didn't give me the creeps after reading it. The love and the deep family values made me fall in love with the story. Hope to see more from th his story the development of Toni and the Leauv Coven.

I’m mad that I just got around to reading this book. I should have read it when I first got it.

The only thing I disagreed with this book was Toni calling Jericho “pigheaded”. I thought the total opposite. I understand that Toni was scared but she had to put things in perspective and to think she could do things on her own after not really believing Jericho was unbelievable.

I hope we won’t have to wait a long time for the next installment.

Highly recommend!

Enjoyable read

I have a rating systems that if the book beacons my need to open after I've shut it quickly then it's rated 3 or more depending on how strong the urge is to emerge myself back I no the story......

There was not much to dislike, just a smooth flow..I like that it didn't drag out for rings to unfurl.

I would recommend this book to my family and friends

I truly enjoyed Latrivia’s first paranormal novel. Loved the concept, characters and the lore. The whole warlocks, witches and angels was very intriguing. I’m not normally a paranormal reader, but Latrivia is an excellent writer with her other stories and series so I knew this would be good. I was left hanging at the end so this definitely needs to be a series. Here’s to waiting for Part 2.

Good vs Evil

I sure did enjoy this book, this is the first paranormal book I’ve read from this author and I was hooked. Definitely looking forward for the continuation in this series because I’m on edge after that cliffhanger. Either way this was a well written book and I’d recommend it as a good read even though I hate cliffhangers.

I’m intrigued!

I’m a big fan of this author and have read all her books. This one is a departure, but a great one. I can’t wait for the next installment. I only have one criticism. Typos and words were occasionally out of of order, threatening to ruin the book’s flow.

Wow!!!!

This was really something I did enjoy it and I can't wait to read more about the Coven. I don't know if Toni and Jericho are my favorite couple because I felt like their relationship wasn't really displayed that much. But otherwise it was a good story.

Not Bad

This was not a bad story for a first time writing in the paranormal genre. It was a little more biblical than I care to read, but other than that, the characters were hold and somewhat exciting. I also think things moved just a tad to fast from one disaster to another.
