Since I am from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and have known Sandra Phinney for many years, I was so anxious to get a copy of this book.....mine is signed :-) It was such a delight to read; some places were so familiar and other places I had no idea were there. So many great experiences she and her friends had within a 100km radius of her home in Quinan for each day in July. How she had the energy to do so much during each day is amazing....talking to all those people can be so interesting but actually tiring....but it all made for wonderful reading which I just finished a few moments ago.
I remember selling my used books and ephemera at the same market Sandra was selling her farm produce in the basement of the old Royal Store. Her sons loved my Hardy Boy mysteries and would read a complete novel while 'helping' their mother in her booth. Her journey shares a great deal of history of the southwestern tip of Nova Scotia....the settlers, the Acadians and their sad Expulsion from NS by the English government, the Black Loyalists from the United States during the Revolution from England, the Mi'kmaq (MicMac) tribes, the many cemeteries with historic tombstones, the lives of long=deceased famous and not-so-famous people and the descriptions of that particular part of the world make this book one I wished was indexed....some places or adventures I'd like to reread or act upon. So interesting to also know Sandra's thoughts and inner feelings as she discovered new adventures and friends every day,
