The GODS OF GOLF

Rate this book
A weekend hacker, Tom has just been drafted to fill out a foursome at the famous Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey. It's an incredible chance to play one of the world's great courses while scoring points with his boss. But when Tom single-handedly costs them Nassau, and visions of unemployment dance in his head, help arrives in the form of a mysterious gentleman named Harry Brady.
With Harry as his guide, Tom begins to play the most beautiful, demanding course in the universe. Along the way, his virtue is tested by the capricious immortals who control every aspect of the game. He fights a battle royal with Fergus, the goat-riding God of Greenskeepers; matches wits with Divot, the God of Bad Lies; and falls in love with the beautiful Glenda, Goddess of Golf, who teaches him that there's much to be gained by straying from the safety of the fairways. But only Harry knows how much is riding on Tom's game...
Equal parts enchanting fable and hilarious satire, The Gods of Golf puts a fresh spin on the idea of golf as a metaphor for life.

A delightful fantasy based on the all-too-real fables of various gods associated with the game of golf. Elements of "The Wizard of Oz" and "Alice in Wonderland" abound in this adventuresome, whimsical tale. Golfers will relate to and identify the description of each "golf god", wittily summarized as an appendix at the end. What a great way to begin spring and anticipate new challenges of our own as we tee it up again.

I loved this book. A combo of fantasy and the legends of God. If you have a golfer in the family you'll love the book.
