About the author

Cameron Dokey is an American author living in Seattle, Washington. She has a collection of over 50 old sci-fi and horror films. Cameron was born in the Central Valley of California. Cameron grew up reading classical literature and mythology, perhaps due to her father, Richard, being a teacher of Philosophy, Creative Writing, and Western Literature.

Cameron has one husband and three cats, and is the author of over a dozen young adult novels. Her favorite read is J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings." Her favorite TV show is "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

When she's not writing, Cameron likes to work in the garden and is learning to quilt.

Reread. I remember this one was my favorite (probably because I loved the cover!), but I can't quite figure out why since I don't think the love story is particularly strong. Still enjoyed for nostalgia!

Teenage Charlotte Campbell was happy enough living on the Indiana frontier, in spite of her family's simple, meager lifestyle. But it's 1814, and war is raging. Fearing for their daughter's safety, Charlotte's parents send her east to stay with her aunt and uncle in Baltimore. But Charlotte isn't safe there, either. Not only are British ships threatening the city, but her uncle's mysterious midnight meetings begin to lead Charlotte to believe there may be a traitor in her own family. This book had pretty much everything in it: mystery, suspense, action, and of course, romance (Charlotte falls in love with Matthew, the grandson of Katherine, the main character in book one). This series is now out of print but if you can find it at the library or used bookstore, and like young adult historical fiction, I highly recommend the series.

This could have been so good but I was not engaged in this story at all, unfortunately.
It was rather predictable and thus boring so yeeeeeah.
Had some pretty cheesy lovey dovey dialogue as well, which made me CRINGE.
But I liked Matthew, somehow.
