Set against well-known historical events, this new Young Adult romance series centers on a hope chest that passes through the lives of various young women who respond to the challenges of their day. Sixteen-year-old Katherine rescues a handsome young stranger who is fleeing from the loyalists, and soon finds out her own father is secretly involved in American Patriot activities. Disguising herself as a boy, she sets out to help the cause of freedom and finds adventure and love along the way.
Cameron Dokey is an American author living in Seattle, Washington. She has a collection of over 50 old sci-fi and horror films. Cameron was born in the Central Valley of California. Cameron grew up reading classical literature and mythology, perhaps due to her father, Richard, being a teacher of Philosophy, Creative Writing, and Western Literature.
Cameron has one husband and three cats, and is the author of over a dozen young adult novels. Her favorite read is J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings." Her favorite TV show is "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
When she's not writing, Cameron likes to work in the garden and is learning to quilt.
This must be the sweetest/cleanest love story there is out there, Katherine acts like a tomboy but she's a lady at heart and her sweet boy friend Nataniel is as sweet as the day is long. You couldn't had a sweeter couple other-wise then Raoul and Christine but that's another story, I would give it PG but that's it. There are several sweet innocent kisses between them and some hand holding but that's not dangerous. No, Nat does not look at Katherine while she's asleep, he doesn't go that far in their relationship to do that. Through-out the story they see each other once in a while and no they don't gaze into each other's eyes and not say anything if they did, Mr. Morison would ask what they are doing who wouldn't? But there isn't a happy ending but then I wouldn't say that it is a sad ending either. It's a bittersweet ending, you can say what you want about the ending when you read it and post your review.
This is the first book in the Hearts and Dreams series, a saga that traces the story of a fictional family throughout American history through the lives of four young women. Katherine Morrison is a teenage girl living in Boston just prior to the American Revolution. She sides with her patriot father, and that distances her from her loyalist mother. Kit, as she is called, desperately wants to play a part in fighting British tyranny, but as a girl, she is expected to help with the household chores until she finds a suitable husband. When Kit spots a young man being chased by loyalists, she hides him in her room until they go away. She is drawn to the young man, whose name is Will. Although he leaves once the coast is clear, Kit hopes that they will meet again, because she is falling in love with him. This was a wonderful historical love story that I recommend to readers who enjoy young adult historical fiction.
Cute and I liked the fact I actually learned more about American history by simply reading YA. However, it's not a great outstanding special book or anything but very sweet. On to book 2 in the series though!
Reread. I had forgotten how much I loved this series when I was twelve. Since I've been to Boston, I also really understood the book more than I did the first time I read it. Ah, nostalgia.
This is a very short, but lovable historical fiction book set near the start of the American Revolution. It focuses on the life of a young girl living during that time who has a very revolutionary spirit. While this book isn't a literary masterpiece it's fun and entertaining. It is definitely a good book for young girls. I don't think it's the type of book to be used in the classroom, but it is definitely one to use to help encourage reading.
One of my favorite books. I read it at least once or twice a year. The story just sucks you in and AGHHH THE ROMANCE MY HEART CAN’T TAKE IT. I’m obsessed 🥹 Seriously can’t put into words how much I adore this book.
