It's official--and what a cliche--but I've been dumped. By my high school sweetheart. Over a dick pic.
Then HE walks into my life, the guy three rows and two seats in front of me, the dude who can't stop getting A++ and smiley faces from the professor and every lady that passes him by. Mr. Know-it-All with the sexiest quirk to his lips and whose talents extend well beyond simple English exams.
Spencer Rolfe is better left untouched. But when he offers to tutor me, I can't say no. I must get my grades up and he's the smartest guy around. At least, that's what I tell myself. But the more I get to know Spence, the less sure I am, and soon Spence's mysteries become irresistible.
And little do I know, but someone else finds me irresistible, too.
And he waits in the dark.
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD can be read as a standalone but is best enjoyed as a prequel to TO HAVE AND TO HOLD, which continues Emme and Spence's suspenseful romance.
Emme and Spence's story is so bitter-sweetly beautiful and I love their dark past as well. The writing style is super easy to consume and I finished reading this in a go. I'll definitely look forward to Ketley's future works!
What a beautiful beginning to a love that will be challenged.
This is a prequel of To Have And To Hold and though it technically happens first, I highly recommend that it be read after To Have And To Hold. Doing so will add depth and meaning to the story.
After reading THaTH, I was left with some questions about Spencer's past and wondering just how he and Emme ended up where they did. Now, I'm not a reader that needs to have all the details of a story laid out or every question answered. Sometimes a story has more meaning when those answers are left to speculation of the individual reader. I'm happy to report that in From This Day Forward I got just enough of their backstory to sate my curiosity without laying every detail at my feet. I know more details of Spencer's dark past and where his scar came from. I also know why it was Spencer who was first and foremost in Emme's thoughts during her ordeal. Their story is a beautiful one but with foreknowledge it's also bitter sweet.
Ketley is an amazing author who has mastered the art of giving the reader enough information to enjoy the story but not so much that the reader's imagination is taken out of the equation. She leads but doesn't force, allowing the readers own emotions and thoughts to play a role and round out the story.
The only reason I didn't get to 5 stars is because of the sheer nature of the book, and it comes down to a purely personal preference. This author if extremely talented and I will soon be reading the rest of her back list.
This story kept me wanting to keep turning pages to see what happened next. The banter between the three flat mates was rather amusing and had me laughing and Emme definitely ended up with the right man. The ending had me a bit confused but I look forward to reading the rest of the stories.
So the story is great in someways…the day to day…it’s written well, but there are times where things happen out of nowhere or are not explained well and I feel left in the dark 🤷🏻♀️
