Ghost Stories of Michigan

Rate this book
Amid the beauty of Michigan's lakes and forested hills lurk spine-tingling stories of the supernatural. These tales of fright-filled folklore span the length and breadth of the Great Lakes State. Read about the Red Dwarf, a hideous harbinger of doom, who continues to be sighted in Detroit whenever tragedy visits; a cantankerous ghost that hampers renovations of an old farmhouse in Gladwin; and the mysterious growls and barks that haunt Dog Lady Island in east Monroe, where long ago a solitary woman began her legendary metamorphosis into a canine monstrosity.

I really enjoyed the first half of the book when the author was interviewing the various paranormal agencies and their experiences. When the author branched off for the short stories about houses it was okay. But when he started paraphrasing stories by Fredick Stonehouse I lost a lot of interest. I've read all the stories he mentioned from Frederick Stonehouse so that section was a big letdown. Especially since I love ghostly lighthouse stories, I was hoping for some new stories I had not yet read.

Meh. This was a fairly random assortment of stories especially given some staples in the paranormal history of Michigan. Random haunted house stories and a lack of exploration of Michigan landmarks made for an awkward collection. Clunky writing and vague organization, it was an ok glance through but disappointing overall.

I fun book rich in Michigan history. I really liked how it was a good mix of different types of experiences. From ghost hunters to local legend and lore, to haunted houses. A bit cheesy but overall a fun vacation read while in Michigan!

I really enjoyed reading this book in October to fit the theme of Halloween with some of Michigan’s haunted history. I liked the first half of the book most with more of the paranormal stories and people being interviewed about their experience. Such a fun and easy read for spooky season!

Eh... not sure what I was hoping for, but this wasn't as great as I hoped. I did end up giving it to one of my really good friends who lives in Michigan and loves ghost hunting. I hope she enjoys it more than I did.

this book is a little too much advertisement for the michigan ghost hunters society and not enough creepy and frightening ghoul narrative.

No depth to the stories provided, just very brief overviews. Way too brief.
