Rate this book
Barbara Duffey's extensive research has produced another superb collection of over sixty angel and ghost stories from all over the South, many never published before. Georgia seems to have more ghosts than most states, perhaps of its rich history. Read how Lorenzo Dow's curse destroys a town in the early 1800's. Meet the ghosts of the strict Puritan society of Midway, founded in 1752. Read the amazing family stories from five generations of Carnegies on Cumberland Island. Barbara Duffey prides herself on collecting the most unusual tales of the supernatural to taunt your imagination and enhance your spiritual enlightenment.

Angels and Apparitions: True Ghost Stories from the South will take the reader on journey through the past, with much focus upon the times leading up to and through the Civil War. There are stories from Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. There is also a chapter that focuses on the supernatural including mysterious happenings at New York City's St. Patrick's Cathedral. The largest number of stories are from Georgia those being in Midway, Milledgeville, and Cumberland Island. Most of the ghosts or spirits are friendly, though some are mournful and others sometimes just appear and fade away or save the lives of those living in the homes in modern times. This is a wonderfully readable collection that has a wistful quality that will appeal to romantics, history lovers and those interested in the supernatural. Filled with engaging photographs, this is a collection that will be enjoyed if it is picked up.
