This one was not for me though it started out with great potential fell flat fairly quickly I'm sorry to say.
I just couldn't feel the connection between Koba and Marilyn and despite reading to 30% it wasn't getting any better for me.
There was an overall lack of world building that combined with believability just didn't really work for me at all.
I mean one strap down in a medical centre and your getting flashbacks but not a blip on the OMG scale from suddenly being stranded in space with all sorts of aliens.
Besides her one screaming session aboard her abductor's ship, she is relatively Blasé about all else really couldn't see that myself.
30% Was more than enough for me.
Sorry, not my bag this one.

This was a KU. Typical story about an earth girl abducted by evil aliens then saved by hot good looking alien. Nothing unique about the story or characters.

This definitely was a great start for a new series. Had plenty of intrigue, action, suspense, and of course steamy romance. What I really like about Koba was even though he knew that Marilyn was his mate, he was ready to sacrifice everything to make Marilyn happy and send her back home to earth even if that meant being alone. How sweet is that!!! Overall enjoyable and entertaining read looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.

On parr with any other girl-gets-abducted., hot-alien-mate- saves-her, story. Fun. Fastpaced. Not horrible. Nothing unique. Maybe I've just read so many stories like this they are all starting to merge in my head as one.

This was probably not the best start to a new series. It just didn't grab me.

It took me all day to get through this because I kept loosing interest. There didn't really feel like much of a connection between characters and and at certain points things would happen that didn't fit.

Example: the day after they bang for the very first time the seemingly very cute vanilla hero takes the heroine into a sex club? I actually re-read that thinking, isnt it like lunchtime? Maybe he said coffee shop. Nope. Sex. Club.

Also, there wasn't much to the supporting cast to make me climb the walls while I wait for their next book. They we're kinda meh.

I'll read the next one, maybe this was just an off book and Mira will grab me with book 2?

Wonderful Koba!

This was my first novel by Mira maxwell and I have to say I quite enjoyed myself. Even though the plot is one that’s been done before; girl gets Kidnapped by aliens to be sold into slavery who is then saved by our gorgeous leading man. The reason behind the abductions though was a completely different one, it wasn’t for the money which is normally the main reason giving this story a nice twist. Our leading male Koba is the General of his own vessel that polices their star system against crime know as the Force (oh I just love a man in uniform and Koba wears one *sigh*) What happens between our main characters when he rescues her especially to Koba was quite sweet. How is people react to meeting their destined mate was new and oh so romantic I have to say, and totally unexpected so I enjoyed it immensely. I loved that he reacted so calmly and professionally on the surface though inside he was dying for her. But once he let go of his inhibitions HOT DAMN was he SEXY AS SIN and my goodness was he a dirty dirty boy too I just LOVED that (you’ll know what I mean when you get to the part he takes her to a place he liked to visit while he was planet side). That particular scene almost had me melt into a puddle of goo, especially when you read what his extremely large ‘equipment’ can do!!! Oh boy their passionate encounters where off the charts. They couldn’t keep their hands off each other and were at it like Duracell bunnies, her need for him matching his own. Our leading lady Marilyn was a refreshing character, so level headed and calm, sweet and kind. I adored the fact that even though she was human she felt the same pull towards Koba, even the same instincts and emotions he felt it was lovely to read. Their is constant action going on, and the plot twist on the abducted women was good so this was definitely a pleasant surprise and a delight to read.

How the *#E@^ did these aliens ever make it into space?

I'm reviewing an ARC of General Koba, and this is a voluntary, independent, and uncompensated review. Koba is a General of The Force, an alien quasi-military organization whose main mission seems to be the interdiction of smugglers - sort of a space-based DEA. Their enemy, the Atronox, are former military opponents turned pirates, and when we meet them, they've just upped their evil game: they're now smuggling kidnapped Earthwomen. Marilyn came home from her boring job to her cramped slum apartment, and the sleaze bag landlord who's only too willing to trade sex for back rent. Ewww. She wakes up on a spaceship, in a cell, a prisoner of lizard-like bag guys - the Atronox. Ewww. As luck would have it, Koba's in command of the team that busts the smugglers and frees Marilyn. That's the interesting start. What follows is pretty much SF alien romance formula, with a Spec-Ops twist or two. That's not the worst, though. Koba is an emotionless brick who thinks with his (rhymes with brick). His main talent is "Yassuh"-ing his superiors and fishing Marilyn out of mucked up missions. Marilyn has a severe case of TSTL. She ruminates obsessively about how she'll get back to Earth (to that lovely job, fine apartment, and understanding landlord?!), when she's not lusting for Koba. Her main talent is sticking to Koba like a leech. There's an Atronox villain, Stosk, who is one part Snidely Whiplash and one part Colonel Klink. His main talent is serial failure. There's a cast of named secondary characters plus an unnamed lot of rescued human females - the sure sign of a series to come. I've read Mira Maxwell before, and I hope the next book showcases her considerable writing talent in a better light.

Hot hunky alien protectors!

For adults only (18+ years or older) Contains some scenes that may be triggers for some (high level list below)

Marilyn is from earth and she has been kidnapped! At first she is trying to avoid her skeezy landlord, and before she knows it, her door is opening and a white smoke enters. She wakes up in a steel cage in what feels like a moving cargo container. She makes a lot of noise trying to get out and another woman tries to warn her that she would get gassed again if she kept it up, Marilyn just couldn't help herself. After she wakes up the next time, the woman warns her that they would be coming for her and not to fight. Unfortunately, Marilyn just couldn't stop herself and finds herself fighting some green lizard / bug looking things, before being dragged to their medical room.

Koba is a General for The Force, an interstellar policing force. He is tracking their greatest enemy and their ship that does something totally unexpected. It disappeared! What? How can that be? So him and their crew continue to search for it until it appears again. Koba can't explain it but there is just something pulling him toward that ship and it is also telling him that it contains something different. So he does something unexpected when the enemy ship approaches airspace that is beyond their jurisdiction ... he cloaks his ship, takes a pod to attach to the enemy ship and investigate just what it is that they are hauling. Not sure who is more surprised when he sees a very small female slave strapped down to a table. Then he continued with his unexpected actions and freed her so that she could return home with him ...

I don't want to accidentally provide any twists or spoilers so I am going to stop there.

I enjoyed this story, which is the first in the series. It has a very defined plot and extending arc will apparently play out across the books. The characters were well defined and had good chemistry. I did find a few grammatical errors, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the storyline.

This book contains adult language, steamy detailed intimate scenes and violence {(kidnapping, forced drugging, assault, murder (including self defense)}. If any of these are triggers, or offensive to you, then this may not be the book or series for you.

The cast in this little Scifi romance are Marilyn, the silly hapless earth girl, and Koba, the space cop. Marilyn is kidnapped by the Atronox, a species of aliens that are the enemies of the Gaian people, the species to which Koba belongs. Koba saves Marilyn, he recognizes her as his "mate" and a formulaic story unfolds. Like out of know where he finds his mate from a species they knew nothing about, I really wish they thought this line through before putting it in a story, If not for the kidnapping he would have been alone for the rest of his life , Viola out of know where comes his mate-make these stories a bit more believable PLEASE.
#SPOILER ALERT#
There are a few times in this book where the author throws in magical solutions, major Deus Ex Machina. You hero gets shot? How about magical sand healers that come out of nowhere and fix him up. Can't get through the locked door into the command center on the enemy ship? No problem! The control panel for the door has a reset button which even our clueless heroine can find that just opens the door for you....Seriously? How stupid are the Atronox? Do they secretly work for the Spaceballs? It really drove me crazy.
Okay spoiler over.

The book was okay. It wasn't awful but it was kinda boring.I guess I am spoilt with my love of numerous Science Fiction & Fantasy authors like S.E Smith & Shae mills & Ruby Dixon who make the unbelievable, believable and with stories that blow your mind . with this one there was no surprises. There isn't much character development. The secondary characters were just there to fill up space and provide fodder for more books. It has so much potential, it really does. But it just didn't push anything. For me I would re-do this, New cover and relaunch because the potential is there but sadly with this it failed to hit the mark. Every time an opportunity rose to create interest in the story line and grab your attention, it just seemed to fizzle out with lack of steam, like it couldn't be bothered. I was disappointed. I wanted to give it a better review.
But truly feel like a rewrite would do magic for this book.

DNF at 20%. No worldbuiding, no explanations, significant story jumps

Maybe it's because I have just finished reading the Sector Fleet series, but I couldn't be bothered making it past the first three chapters.

The h didn't want to have another episode like she did when Koba explained he hadn't heard of Earth before? Wow, how did I miss that happening? She mentions she is from Earth and then they are docking at his ship, then at the space station. Yes, it all happened in only three sentences. Now, I expect there was some conversation during the shuttle journey and some reactions, but at least the author could have gone into some effort to include them. It isn't as though this is a 70 page novella.

After being taken to the med centre, she starts to panic about going into the room due to flashbacks (she was taken to a medical room, put in restraints then left alone for around 20 seconds before being rescued). Sure, she may be panicking. However, the story jumps from her feeling a needle and passing out (obviously a sedative) to waking up in Koba's bedroom with her only comment being 'oh yes, I needed a good rest'. What? I don't even wake up from anaesthetic that calm and that is when I know I am being drugged and I haven't just been stolen from Earth by aliens.

Maybe a book (series) that appeals to those wanting large, muscle-bound men rescuing the weaker women - in which case, just stick yo contemporary romance. Making the the H an oversized blue Mr. Universe alien with a senior sounding rank (you do realise most people don't make it to the rank of 'General' until nearly 50) just made what was a poorly written story - what little I did read - even worse.

I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.

So our players in this little sci-fi romance are Marilyn, the hapless earth girl, and Koba, the space cop. Marilyn is kidnapped by the Atronox, a species of aliens that are the enemies of the Gaian people, the species to which Koba belongs. Koba saves Marilyn, he recognizes her as his "mate" and a formulaic story unfolds.

Skip this paragraph if you are afraid of a few minor spoilers.

Standard stuff:
Women abducted from Earth (to be slaves)
Military forces save girl
Fated Mates
More to rescue for next book/hot alien dude

Also standard, main characters go on their own little mission where things go wrong and relationship is solidified/tested. In this particular case though, the main hero (General Koba) meets at military base with superior (Admiral ?) and it seems there is a rigid protocol and command hierarchy. With that being the case, how can he just take human girl (Marilyn) with him for a mission? How can she just hang out with a military agent and help him decode stuff? Where is the hierarchy and protocol then? Why can she just walk into labs with sensitive equipment and other military stuff?

I'm trying hard to suspend reality and go with the fictional flow, but the author makes that difficult.

Another example - they are on the bad guys' ship. They can't get into the control room, so the girl reboots the system for the locking mechanism using the on/off switch (hey, that's how she fixes her computer issues back on Earth). Seriously?! What locking mechanism (code box/keypad/card scanner/etc) on Earth or otherwise has an on/off switch right next to it? What is the point of having the electronic lock gizmo if anyone can just turn it off?!?!?!?!

not even going to get into the sex club thing ... but I'm trying to like the series. I'm going to read the next book of it at least.

Marilyn tried to quietly sneak into her apartment without the sleazy landlord spotting her. She would rather stand out in the rain than face him! She was relieved when she sneaked into the apartment and locked the door. But her phone rang – a coworker calling from a party to make sure she made it home safely. And then her creepy landlord started banging on the door! She sneaked quietly into her bedroom, but before she could lock the door, a white mist surrounded her and she lost consciousness.

Marilyn wakes in a cage and realizes she has been kidnapped. So when she hears noise outside of her cell, she prepares to launch herself at her kidnapper(s) – and instead bounces off one of the three lizards standing in the doorway! Fortunately for her, General Kobo and his crew are in pursuit of the Atronox kidnappers who are kidnapping Earth women. Will he be able to save her? Or are her troubles just beginning?

This wasn’t one of my favorite sci-fi books, but it wasn’t bad. Kobo was my favorite character because he had some special qualities that I admired. Marilyn was sort of plain vanilla; I prefer a strong female heroine. But the story line was paced well and gave the reader enough tidbits to want to keep reading and see what happens next. This is the first in a new series, and I’ll probably at least try one more to see where it goes.

Blue burly big aliens, passion, and action!

This was recommended by my reading list as one I would love and was my first time reading anything by Mira Maxwell. Her writing and imagination are very refreshing since I felt that I was getting stuck in a rut with the same themes and storylines from other authors. Mira painted her world beautifully and sometimes authors will get lost in doing that, that they forget about creating substance and plot to the story. Not with Mira. She also masters the different POVs and creates depth to the characters and the plot is seen from all angles. As the reader I was pulled in by Marilyn and Koba and the one thing after another mentality. Because if I were Marilyn, I definitely would’ve felt the same. Mira also gives us glimpses of side characters that open up the world she created and provides us as readers more blue burly men to follow in her next stories.

Marilyn was living in a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle and she is kidnapped. General Koba rescues the female and tries to keep things professional since it was his duty. The two of them are thrown into different circumstances and the tension between them just drives you crazy!!! And when Koba takes Marilyn to a “special place” I was on the edge of my seat and then about died of laughter... amazing twist Mira I loved it because it was completely unexpected!

🚀🌌 Can Koba help Marilyn make it back to Earth and does he want to?!
April 22, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition
:-) An enjoyable, easy-to-read space adventure romance with plenty of twists, passion and action. Marilyn, the human heroine, is feisty and determined (though I never understood why she held out hope of returning to a dismal hand-to-mouth existence back on Earth for so long). Koba is a gentle giant with her, a respected fighter with his commander and crew, and a fierce adversary to the outlaw alien race that killed his parents and is still endangering lives in his galaxy.

I liked the interweave of romance and intrigue. Although this is part of a series, the main characters' story is fine as a standalone with a satisfying ending. I never did understand how her abductors first found Marilyn on Earth, but it was not crucial to the story. Maxwell did a fine job of creating her space world with just enough detail in her descriptions to help visualize but not too much to distract from the action.

I read a complimentary copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

I received a free copy from the author and I'm willingly leaving a review
The first impression I got from Marilyn is that she had no one left in this world. She had a new apartment, new (few or none) friends, new job, so I didn't quite understand, later on, why she would want to return to Earth instead of staying with Koba. The other thing that confused me is when The Force were following the villains and they disappeared; don't they know about warp hole? Apparently not as we see later on. I thought it a bit crazy that Marilyn would demand something from the Atronox and expect respect (wants to see Koba to make sure he's okay for ex.). Koba is not the most professional General around; he forgets to do his job properly, is more concerned about Marilyn than doing his job, making sure the storage is empty, that there is no guards around anymore; that sort of things a military would do automatically → even Stosk knew Koba was lacking. They take a lot of showers. The story is a mix of romance, bedroom, suspense, and mystery. Finishes on a HFN all around. I hope the story continues in the next book, otherwise we are left with many unanswered questions.

*I recieved a free copy of this for my honest review***possible spoilers**

this one was pretty interesting... I enjoyed the world building immensely and I really liked Koba.. but I wasn't too impressed with the heroine. she was a solid character but some of the things that happened seemed either unnecessary or not fully realized. the whole thing with her making a deal with the bad guy to save Koba's life was a great idea but it never went anywhere.. she never even told Koba that she did it and when the bad guy came to steal the object he wanted back.. he was going to take her too... then Koba states that the capsule he wants isn't in her anymore and bad guys simply states duh I know that.. but doesn't villan-splain or anything about why he's taking the girl.. idk it just seemed like a loose end... there were a couple other instances like that but that one was blaringly obvious.. the chemistry between the characters is great though.. very well done. overall as a story it was definitely worth the read and I would recommend it for anyone who wants a little adventure with the romance.

I do love the escapism of a science fiction story, add in a HOT (blue AND tattoo’d) alien general, a confused human female, AND a happily ever after, and I’m sold. I like the premise of the story. The good guys patrol Space keeping aliens in check and stopping the bad guys. The bad guys are quite the piratey bunch going so far as to kidnap human females to serve as mules.

Likes: The overall premise is interesting and it does lay the groundwork for an interesting series that could go in many different directions. The attraction between Marilyn and Kobo works well and when they do finally get together intimately…cues music and sparklers.

Dislikes: While the “reconnaissance mission” was on the unbelievable side (hey, this is fiction, I can suspend disbelief), I did like how Ms. Maxwell was able to turn it around turning my dislike into a like.

This isn’t my first story by Mira Maxwell and while it wasn’t my favorite, I’m definitely looking forward to reading more.

I'm down with big, blue, and tattooed. I'm especially down when said tattooed hottie is fighting the good fight against space slavers and other dangerous things.

That said, this book does move very quickly. Koba feels things for Marilyn the first time he lays eyes on her. She's attracted to him (as one would be), but figures it's just the fact that he swooped in to save her from some very bad aliens. So, you know, she isn't quite as all in as he is as quickly.

The bad guys do some despicable things. The good guys have some fairly strict space force rules they have to follow. Frankly, the baddies make them look a little foolish once or twice. But Koba and his crew step up and whoop some alien butt. Sort of.

Hunky aliens fighting the good fight. An earth woman who gets tossed in the middle of something dangerous. I'm going to admit that's a recipe for good times in my book.

This book was good, the writing is good the romance is great and the world building is amazing. I liked the respect between Koba and Marilyn, liked how they are together. This should have been a four to five star read but for a few very glaring plot holes.
Ok unless the bad guys are extremely stupid Marilyns „deal“ would never have worked there are so many things against them reacting like that on her promise that it kicked me right out of the story and I was shaking my head no bad guy is that naive. Then there’s the part where she never tells him. I admit I tend to skip some of the sex scenes (they are well written but I’ve read so many sex scenes in my reading life I just automatically skip a few) so unless she told him her betrayal during one of them those two are going onto a life with her lie between them and that spoiled the end for me.

Let your heart lead the way

This is the first book of Mira Maxwell's that I've ever read. I will definitely be reading more of her work. I liked Koba because he was very practical about the fact that Marilyn wanted to go back to Earth even though she was his mate. He was going to let her go without having said anything to her. But things happened where that wasn't necessary any longer. I liked the conflict that kept the plot moving along. I just kept turning the pages, deeply engrossed in Koba and Marilyn's relationship and the world in which the book was set. I anxiously await the next book in the series! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy, and I borrowed this book through the Kindle Unlimited program too.

This is the first book in a new series about hunky, intergalactic policemen. Koba is a General with the Force. While trying to find out what the Atronox is smuggling, Koba makes a startling discovery- his mate. Marilyn wakes after being kidnapped to find out her captors are aliens. After being rescued by a big, hunky blue alien, Marilyn's finds herself torn between wanting to return to Earth and her growing feelings for Koba. Will the Force be able to find the other kidnapped women and find out what the Atronox is really up to? Looking forward to reading Radyn's book next.

Really liked this book. Marilyn's day just got worse she is kidnapped by creepy aliens who want to sell women like merchandise so they can increase their weapons stash. General Koba is patrolling his sector of space when they come across the Atronox ship and give chase to the boarder of the forbidden sector but he goes over anyway as he is drawn to the ship and knows they are carrying something illegal. He recuses Marilyn but is unaware their are other human women on the ship. Marilyn and Koba are attracted to each other from the start. She finds the Gaians and Honorable race and they will help her find the other captives. Thank you to Mira Maxwell for the review copy. Entertaining read.

General Koba

This is the first book by this author that I have read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The adventure was different from countries I have read, with some unusual twists and an ending that made me smile. Technically, it was well written, flowing from one part to the other with good effects. The character development was also quite good. I was able to connect with them, which is important for a well written novel.
I hope to read more of this author's work in th future. So, if you want to read a delightfully stolen short story, try this.

Marilyn is barely getting by in Chicago; her job doesn’t pay well, her apartment sucks, her landlord is getting creepier and creepier and since her mother died she feels alone in the world. To top it all off Marilyn is kidnapped and wakes up on an alien ship. General Koba leads the ship that saves her from the slaver aliens. Marilyn and Koba are drawn to each other and work together to find the other abducted women. There is action, romance and steamy sex. I received an arc of this story and voluntarily left an honest review.

Sweet alien abduction rescue story

This was a nice start to an alien abduction story. Koba is a blue alien who rescues Marilyn from green aliens who abducted her. They save each other multiple times and get into trouble as well. They are relatively honest about their feelings in a strange, stress filled coming together. The characters are likeable and the plot is good. I wasn't so drawn to this story and when putting it down I had a hard time picking it back up. I also skipped several sex scenes. Ok read.

An good alien romance. Sometimes the plot or certain scenes were a bit unrealistic and also highly unlikely, but I did like the basic bones of the story. More character development would have really helped this book. I must admit that the biggest drawback to my enjoyment was that I truly did not like the female lead, Marilyn. I found her grating and annoying and human or not, I felt Koba could do better. I am looking forward to reading further books in this series. This is my honest, voluntary review.
