descriptionMama Mia...I don't know where this author comes up with the plots for these books. She scares me a little to be honest (lol). So this one picks up where we left off in book one. We are given a few more twist and turns as Elena and Mateo continue to play the game of old money roulette. Truthfully, I have no idea where this is going or what the end game is here. Every new twist and turn ends in even more questions. I seriously need some damn answers. Thankfully, I don't have long to wait for the conclusion.

description

The writing remains fantastic. It is a relatively short book, so the pace moves along at a good clip. The plot remains very engaging. There is torture. There is murder. There is blood...lots of blood. There is a good cast of secondary characters. No OW or OM drama. The sex scenes are hot, and both main characters remain twistedly intriguing. Not much more to say than that. Bring on book three... description

ARC BOOK REVIEW
Release Date-9/6/18

OMG! Loved "King Of Hearts" like so much and I feel like I was waiting forever to read this; I was so excited to get my hands on this second instalment in the fantastic "Old Money Roulette" series.
And sigh; it was over much too soon for me as I raced through this in record time.
This starts off exactly where we left events previously, and almost from the get-go we are ramped right back into the action with shocks and turns galore.
Mateo is in True King style as he attempts to mould and manipulate his Ley all in the name of shaping her new destiny as his queen; strategising events to play this game exactly as he chooses.
Taking Ley along for the ride; while giving her the allusion of choice when really her destiny has already been preordained by yours truly.
When the cards finally fall Elaina is going to be right by Mateos side; The dark Queen to his Corrupt King.
And my god this book was decadent and depraved personified; exactly what I have come to expect and adore from this particular author.
I just never knew where events were going to go next; This author has such a malignant mind that when let free it is honestly a touch unnerving; I was almost afraid to turn the page at times.
But in the same breathe, there's also such a compulsion to soldier on here; as this is also such addictive reading that once started is impossible to put down until the final reveal; I was glued with an almost sinful sickened delight.
Both Elaina and Mateo are such flawed individuals both with multifaceted personalities.
Mateo being much more transparent than Elaina; who herself hides behind a facade of innocence concealing the cracks beneath her surface.
Mateo makes no apologies and himself stands in full view; almost daring his friends and also his enemies to judge.
while at the same time lending his assistance to Elaina as he attempts to get her to embrace her Immorality wholeheartedly.
So in "King Of Hearts" for every answer, Elaina gets another pops up in its place.
This is full of secrets and lies and is so fast paced it definitely kept me on my toes; feeding me just enough information to titillate but not ultimately satisfy my complete curiosity.
This was also scorching in terms of heat factor with some serious chemistry between our two lovers.
I should also probably mention that this story doesn't pull any punches; it's graphic and disturbed with torture that has an almost sick normalcy to it at times; that was just so wrong it was actually right.
This also straddles the dub-con line like a lot, so if this is a trigger; probably best to give this a wide berth.
My own personal morality radar when it comes to my fiction seems a bit screwy and I've found the more depraved the more I seem to devour; this I absolutely inhaled.
I'm so dying to read the next part of this addicting saga; So glad I haven't long to wait, I will be on pins till I get my hands on the next piece of this perplexing puzzle.
I'm now convinced Natalie Bennett could write Christmas crackers and I would appreciate and revel in the almost neurotic normalcy she depicts so well; I've yet to read anything of hers yet that I haven't adored.
This is one series I can't recommend enough; Give it a go if your stomach is strong enough for the task at hand that is.
Thank You to the Author for providing me with an ARC of "King Of Hearts (Old Money Roulette #2" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

You fuckin know you have an awesome read in front of you, when you finish it in one sitting...

King of hearts delivers more of the devious masterplan the notorious Vice city's kingpin Mateo Remmington has for his prey and masterfully caught pawn Elena Rias...
Old money roulette was a game without an end. Survival of the richest and the corrupt. It was a gateway to an elite life. I’d been a participant for seventeen years. Day in and day out, I calculated, manipulated, and decimated to get what I wanted.
She wanted answers; this was how she would get them.

He's testing her, preparing the teritory for her uprising to the role he orchestrated for her...

And she seeks the truth...but for her to be able to handle the truth, she needs to free her dark side, she needs to let him in, to devour her completely...

Is the truth she seeks and the answers about her twin sister's fate worth it all?

Is the role she was given really the ultimate goal she innerly trives for?

Can she surrender to him to fully uphold the name and the position he's given her?
I was going to lead her, forcing her to become the woman I knew she could be. The queen of diamonds to my king of hearts

And the game has only just began...

Absolutely fantastic, depraved, suspenseful, obsessingly captivating, vile and dubious....this story simply controls your senses from the begging to the end and you can't supress the need to want and demand more...

I’ve never tried to read a book as slow as a three year old learning to read, as I did with this story!

KOH is a fast paced delicious morsel of mafia intrigue and perfection! Allow me to warn you, this story is uber DARK and violent. If those items are triggers for you, please DO NOT PASS go to collect $200. Mateo is a KINGPIN. If you rearrange the word KINGPIN, it spells NO MERCY. Not literally but figuratively lol!

What I want to mention with lots of pride, great glee, and no small amount of jealousy, is the chemistry and physical relationship between Mateo and Elena. It’s barbaric, raw, totally possessive! Readers, Mateo is some sort of epic deity from another realm! I swear his prowess and his powers are otherworldly! I cannot adequately convey without sounding like a blubbering stalker how utterly bad and perfect MY Mateo is in this story!

Five stars!

Disclaimer: This review is my personal opinion of this story. As usual my personal opinion should have ZERO influence on your experience with the story. With that being said, read, enjoy, and leave a review!

"In a million ways for a million different reasons that would never make sense to anyone other than the two of us, I wanted him."

Mateo is my favorite type of bad-boy villain....he exudes danger, sex appeal, and just off the charts hotness that he crept in my bones and wouldn't let go. At times, terrifyingly intense, yet you are drawn to his character like a moth to a flame and I didn't want this one to ever end!! Darkly intoxicating and flaming hot!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review and I cannot wait for what I anticipate to be the epic conclusion of this series!!

"She was a pristine canvas I could paint however I wished. She had a past full of pain that could only make her more cutthroat. My twisted angel held so much potential, all I had to do was dirty her up a little."

As soon as this dropped onto my kindle I had to jump in. Book one left me with so many questions and now I have even more questions than need answers. I’m so glad we don’t have to wait too long for the conclusion of this trilogy.

Well what can I say. I hadn’t even read the blurb before I jumped in. I just knew I had to read it. Mateo and Elena are so good together. The chemistry is hot between them.

This is a fast paced read. I can’t say much about the storyline. You just gotta read these books. The twists and turns were so good. I read this in one sitting in the garden with a tub of ice cream. I seriously cannot wait for the next book. If you like dark twisted reads then go grab these books.

This is one of them books when it lands on your Kindle you just have to read right away.
After the ending of book one, I needed to dive right into the book is fast-paced
I like Mateo & Elena together their great and the chemistry is off the charts hot.
I really do not want to give anything away I know have more questions and I cannot wait for the final book. So many twists and turns in this one so much going on. I am not sure where this story is going to go or how it is all going to end. This book will keep you turning the pages the plot is so good.
Like always, these books are so well written you find them hard to put down once you start.

This just didn't work for me. I didn't feel the suspense or intrigue because quite simply the mystery was achieved by telling us nothing

I read this in the hope that it would build on the first book and ACTUALLY START GIVING US SOME ANSWERS AND SOME DIRECTION OF WHAT THE PLOT IS ACTUALLY ABOUT. I was sadly disappointed. The entire plot, at the moment, seems to be that Elena is trying to find out where her sister is and Mateo is continually promising to give her answers but instead gives her nothing but other distracting (and seemingly pointless) puzzle pieces. I still don't know what 'the game' is, nor does Elena, unless it's to kill as many innocent bystanders as possible?

Every time she challenges him in some way his answer is to distract her by sticking his fingers in her vagina (in a book that took about 90 minutes to read there were AT LEAST 6 separate occurrences, for goodness sake add some variety). He also doesn't take 'no' for an answer and she's so desperate for it she's happy to let him. If I'm scared, angry or hurt sex is not top of the list of activities I want to do. Yes it's a work of fiction but if it's contemporary it needs to have some touch on reality.

Even worse is that Elena is totally led by said vagina and is quite happy to be treated like a mushroom (kept in the dark and fed shit) just as long as Mateo is sticking either his fingers or cock in her. I'm afraid this hits my pet hate of a woman who loses all sensibility in the presence of a man. She is totally TSTL in this book and I went from quite liking her to shaking my head in disbelief that she was in love with a man who is a complete and utter psychopath. He kills people just to seemingly keep Elena in line, and often thinks about how he would kill her if she did something to upset him.

Now I accept this is a dark read but the darkness is all contained in the 'hero'. He is happy to kill innocent bystanders, admits he is a human trafficker and there is even the strong suggestion that he kills off the prostitutes he rents out, when they have been with a certain number of men.

Sorry, but as much as I love an antihero he needs to have SOME redeeming features. He shows a frighteningly sick obsession about the heroine but he doesn't really show that he loves her. He doesn't have ANY morals. I can't find a single thing to like about him and this leads me wonder what Elena sees in him. I then find I can't respect or connect with her since she is happy to ignore the fact that he is a complete lunatic. I won't be bothering with book 3.

It's a shame because the technical writing, descriptions etc are really good. The author has talent, I found the story easy to follow, always knew who was speaking, descriptions were detailed enough to build a picture without losing the flow and the pace was really good too.

King of Hearts( Old Money Roulette, #2) by Natalie Bennett continues the game that Elena knows she is involved in but doesn't know the rules or the players. Every time she thinks she is going to get an answer she is stopped at every turn. If it isn't Mateo distracting her with sex than he is always one step ahead of her, leaving her a box with a surprise that has her mind reeling. She doesn't know if she is coming or going. All she knows is that she is falling more and more in love with Mateo and the web of lies and secrets. Mateo is ruthless and he doesn't mind killing people in the most creative ways. He is the Puppet Master of this game and he is determined to play it his way even if it destroys Elena in the process. This story is wild. I like Elena have no clue how this game is played and what is the end result. And like her I will see this through to the end. I can't wait to get all the answer to her questions. The sex is mind blowing and Mateo definitely knows how to work it. I am looking forward to the next installment of this story. I give this story 4 stars.

I still don't understand what the hell is going on.

This novel reads like a patchwork quilt. A bunch of stuff are thrown at you with no real flow. Everything seems to be patches of time filled with random ass stuff followed by a murder and sex. It is literally murder. mayhem. sex. In that order.

Some of the murders don't even make sense!

I still don't understand Mateo other than the fact that he is ruthless with a blatant disregard for everything. He will literally kill you for staring at Elena and I am no closer to figuring out why and how she is so okay with all that's happening.

With the exception of those in their immediate circle, expect everyone you meet to die just for breathing the same air as Mateo Remmington.

I don't trust any of the characters and I still don't know what Elena is planning because all she has done so far is get instructed and fucked.

Apparently we will have it all in Ace of Spades so you know I copped that in a hot minute because I actually want to know what this Old Money Roulette is and just plain what the hell is going on!

I read this so long ago, and forgot to come back and review after reading the trilogy. I’ve read to many books in between to give a proper review, but I can say that even after all these months, this was a great book.

This was a fantastic trilogy if you want your reads super dark. I enjoyed every intense, violence, and lust filled page.

Fans of this Author’s work, and Dark Erotica/Horror will likely enjoy the Old Money Trilogy.

Like in my first review of this book series I am conflicted because he doesn’t have remorse over any of his actions which only makes him a person a can’t care or root for. His only human side i could find was when he was around Elena and even there is more about position then love.

But overall the book is okey it is still keeping me on my toes, waiting for what will happen next. The book is very well written and I can’t wait to really get some real answers in the next book.

Way more questions than answers and an ending that leads you to believe book three is going to be ugly.

Mateo is obsessed, Elena is addicted and together they are dangerous and explosive. While Mateo is always many steps ahead of Elena he is giving her small pieces to this puzzle that is her life. The game of Old Money started long ago and Mateo knows how to win it. The secrets that are revealed are not nearly enough to be satisfying and only end up leaving more questions.

Book two is just as dark and bloody as book one. The relationship between the King and Queen is fast and furious with both players not trusting the other but needing the other. Elena grows stronger every day and slowly comes into her own, but her endgame may be the end of her. She is a mess of emotions and Mateo is only making it more difficult. Instead of straight answers he plays her body and feeds her lust. The reader is not quite sure what his end game is but I don't think it is going to be good.

Blistery hot, crazy fast and savage tale that has sucked me right in. Luckily it is June because I can't wait for the last piece of this insane trilogy. I have no idea where it is going to go but I imagine whatever the future holds for our characters the path will be paved with destruction.

“The truth would be a double edged sword that would push her over the edge she couldn’t come back from unless she walked a path of destruction to get there. I was going to lead her, forcing her to become the woman I knew she could be. The queen of diamonds to my king of hearts. Sooner than later, she would know everything she needed to.”

Mateo is slowly introducing Elena to his world. And it’s one hell of a dark one.
There’s so many secrets, many including her family. Secrets her parents kept. And secrets her sister Ava was keeping.

“You are not you parents mistakes or family’s past. You are your own person and that person happens to be a beautiful Queen I intend to keep by my side, regardless of what you discover.”

Elena feels trapped, confused, and yet falling in love with a drug lord who also happens to sell women, murder, owns… alligators as pets… he’s over the top possessive and controlling and absolutely in love with Elena.

I’m still trying to figure out what this game
Is he’s playing with her. Giving her random gifts with cards… and what the secret is with her sister.
The sex scenes between these two are intense and passionate and rough and 🔥🔥🔥🔥.

I’m eager to read on to the third book!

Book 2 of this series is an even crazier, edge of my seat, couldn't put it down ride than book 1! I can't even believe I said that considering how much book 1 brought it. Natalie Bennett knows how to weave shockingly twisted addictive stories and this managed to exceed my already high expectations.

It's a fast paced story, one that leaves you questioning what the heck you just read, why you love it so much and needing book 3 immediately! The character development and world building is fantastic. Not for one second did my attention leave the pages. Reaching the last pages almost made me cry because I need to know what happens next!

This book is the ultimate mind game. It is deliciously dark with so many cringe-worthy moments. The suspense was to the point I almost wanted to put it down and run away because I didn't know if I could handle anymore. Yet Natalie Bennett is incredibly skilled when it comes to holding the reader emotionally hostage. This book is one crazy ride but absolutely worth it!

5 stars for a perfectly crazy, emotionally captivating read! Highly recommend!

Ok, so here’s the thing. I’m torn on how to rate this book, because on the one hand I’m still just as confused as I was with book 1. But it was intriguing enough that I at least want to read book 3.

This story was all over the place, I’m really hoping the author can tie this up in book 3 and make this incredibly confusing story end well. Because it felt like random info was being said and pushed at us and instead of clarity- I’m even more stumped.

Incest?! Where did that come from?

If nothing else, I’m clear that Elena and Mateo have lots of sex. Because that seemed to happen every other paragraph. Along with more random ‘suspenseful’ random crap.

Also, there were quite a few grammatical errors. Either way I’m giving the story 3 stars. Because if nothing more it’s a train wreck I’m willing to complete. Maybe I’m interested in finishing what I started... I don’t know.

Oh man, just when you think you have this book kind of figured out Natalie throws you more twisted and turns. You have to read the first book Queen of Diamonds first, if you don't you will be extremely confused.

Elena is meant to be Mateo’s Queen and he will do everything in his power to make that happen. This book will show you just how far he will go. Be prepared for sex, gore, drugs, mystery, and secret boxes. I couldn't put this book down. And I can't wait for the next book Ace of Spades.

This series is one poker face mind game! I'm on the edge of seat, hoping I'm hit with something really twisted. I mean, I have my own theory, and I hope it's not what I think, because it's been written so many times. I guess I'll have to read the third book to see. I actually have no choice. I'm wrapped up in this game just the rest. I need answers.

I love my heroes a little crazy, a little psychotic, and a whole lot of committed to their obsession. It's twisted love and my favorite kind. I'm loving Mateo and I'm obsessed with finding out all his secrets.

I wanted to brandish myself into her flesh so she’d never forget who it was that she belonged to.

King of Hearts by Natalie Bennett is book Two in the Old Money Roulette series. This continues the story of Mateo and Elena. There will be one more book after this one that gives us more of their story called "Ace Of Spades". This started off where "Queen Of Diamonds" left off.
This is a somewhat Dark Romance so there may be some trigger issues in their story but for me it was one that was hard to stop reading. I wanted to see how Mateo was working to get his 'Kingdom' in order the changes in Elena and how their growing feelings were playing out.
I can't wait for the next book!!

Play your cards right because this time its all in or fold.

Book 1 dips our toes into this world and skims the edge of darkness, but book 2 tosses you over the edge and into a story you dont expect.

Lots of dirty heat and even dirtier actions, Mateo ensnares Elena in his wicked web of darkness and sex.

Lots of unexpected happenings and twists which will have you wonderting how deep it all goes and where its all going to end. Secrets come to light, but some questions go unanswered. A real up and downer, all rounder that keeps you hungry for more!

This series is just blowing me away! It’s dark , it’s twisted, and a complete mindfuck. I can’t figure out if Mateo is crazy insane or just playing like he is. Hell Elena is confused and I’m still confused but can’t wait to find out what is happening . Elena is still looking for her sister and Mateo is still playing the game . There are so many unanswered questions that I don’t know which way to turn . Just a few days before the conclusion is released ! There is so much violence , murder, sex , even incest in this story that it boggles my mind . Natalie Bennett is the queen of dark reads !

I have lost interest in this trilogy but I am going to finish it.
21 more chapters and we continue in circles without knowing what Mateo wants from Elena and she has disappointed me.
She wanted to see how she grew and strengthened her character but now that she is in love with her, the situation is worse because she acts as Mateo wishes. It is annoying to see how he anticipates her movements and she remains stagnant, without answers, manipulated, involved in a game that she completely ignores and with no way out.
We'll see what we find in the next book.

***Received an Advanced Readers Copy during a blog tour with Give Me Books Promotions in exchange for an honest review***

Well hot diggity dog.... I am just.... well now I am just completely beguiled. The writing style of Natalie is just beyond stunningly twisted and above all delicious. King of Hearts was a whirlwind of events, leaving me questioning every angle more than I did in Queen of Diamonds. More questions and less answers, yet here I am drooling with the prospect of diving into Ace of Spades.

Elena is still an interesting factor to me. Mateo on more than one occasion describes her as this 'pristine canvas' or that he wants to 'dirty her up' for her future life. And in fact Elena does come off as this more innocent factor, yet she isn't. Maybe it is the influence of Mateo or her own curiosity, but she is definitely a go-getter personality. Innocent, perhaps even naive or not, she wants to be bad, she wants to see where this world leads her because she sees only Mateo. She may have started this game with wanting to discover the truth about her sister, but the more and more she allows herself to be controlled, lead into this dark world with Mateo, she is getting closer tot he answers but does she really care? Only if Mateo is there...

Of course on the other hand we have Mateo, still the pensive drug lord who even sets fire to my loins. He is this bone chilling character who exudes nothing short of dangerous sex appeal - he has secrets. As King of Hearts continued to grow, we see the backbone of Mateo, getting little pieces to what is actually making the story tick. Though I am still conflicted with a multitude of questions, one thing remains, he is absolutely infatuated with Elena. But again, the questions - so many! Does Elena know Mateo from her past? Why is he killing for Elena, what purpose does she really serve? And the flipping book! Why did Eva do what she did? This all ties back to Elena... WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?!

Seriously, Mateo and Elena were intoxicating. Every moment they were together, whether it was arguing or sexual encounter, the obsession between them was very much burning off the pages. They have this dark, consuming passion between them - this game they are playing makes everything about them intense.

Aside from the toxic, captivating chemistry between Mateo and Elena, there were some more additives to the King of Hearts than the main characters. It was the secondary characters that started to add more suspenseful drama to the plot mix. Elias was definitely a key point in whatever plan Mateo has for devolving Elena into whatever it is he has planned for her, which appears to be his queen. And again this leads me to more questions - everyone is just a ploy in whatever game Mateo is playing but yet the group of his seems to be very well aware of the rules.... as the reader we are sitting on the edge of our seats from Elena's perspective, figuring out the truth of Eva, as well as what is in store for Elena.

Definitely, hands down this is a phenomenal, mind blowing series. I am curious as to what goes on in the mind of Natalie at this point - holy snap! Between the murder, the blood, the web of dramatically catastrophic building that went into this plot all spiraling down to the sex - I am floored. I am really curious as to what is in store for this twisted, delicious couple.

I need to know now!

This is the second book in the series and Queen of Diamonds needs to be read first.
Mateo Remmington is a powerful man and used to getting exactly what he wants. He wants Elena Rias but knows she has to be prepared for the life that he leads and be willing to stand beside him and do what is expected of her.
Elena Rias thought she could find out what happened to her sister, Eva through Mateo. She knew that Mateo was a dangerous man but had no idea how far he could go and continues to go for anyone that dares to cross his path and betray him.
Will Elena be willing to play the game that Mateo has set out for her or will the game be too much for her and cause her to leave before getting the answers she needs?
Wow – this is such an intense book that will leave your stomach doing somersaults in horror at the punishments handed out.
Mateo was a very powerful man who would stop at nothing to prove what he was set out to do and stop people from double crossing him. There were times I really liked Mateo and other times he scared the living heck out of me! He was not a man I wanted to cross at all. It was clear that he truly cared about Elena but I was still confused about what he was doing with her and why he wanted her so much in his world.
Elena was a good character that really wanted to find out what happened to her sister. She knew that Eva was involved with the wrong people but knew that Mateo could help her with discovering where she was. I was definitely worried about Elena and her friends, Melody and Peyton as the book went on and more things happened.
There were so many twists and turns and scary moments that I was never sure what was going to happen next.
I was shocked at what Mateo made Elena do but I was proud of Elena for getting through it. The end left me in shock and I am definitely worried about what is going to happen next!- By rebecca
