Cloudy Skies: Prelude

Rate this book
In one family, generation after generation relied on the magic of one Norse ring to lead them to their destined match. For those who heed its advice, only joy and health follow. But the ring has also been known to foreshadow impending doom. Ignore its truth at your peril….

Wayne Warner is a bully. A two-faced scumbag. A complete and totally deceitful, arrogant, gnash-your-teeth-until-they-bleed kind of man.
Or is he? Some might say he is the most supportive and loving person they’ve ever met.
Anyway, this is not his story.
This prelude is about his children, and how Wayne’s actions will affect them later in life. Many adults like to claim that their parents messed them up in some way, but Wayne Warner takes the cake. How will the pivotal event in this character introduction change their viewpoints and impressions? How will the course of their lives be affected by what he’s done to them?
Each child will have his or her own full-length novel to follow.
For now, I give you...
The Inciting Incident.

The hardest thing to write is about oneself. So... here goes....

I love to read, mostly romance, but every now and then I'll toss in an Austen or Hawthorn just to shake things up. YA is another favorite, and as I grew up on Piers Anthony and Robert Asprin, fantasy is fantastic for me.

It is impossible for me to read or write without a cat on my lap. (Trust me. I've tried.)

I am published in Romance, with sub-genres of contemporary, paranormal, and time travel. Working on book 4 now, which is also contemporary.

Cloudy Skies: Prelude takes you into the mind and life of a twisted father who treats some of his children very differently from the others. It sets the stage for a series of books about how each of those children struggles as adults due to their strange upbringing and the mysteries of a special family ring. As an introduction to the series it will definitely hook you to want to know more, much more about the whole family.

This isn’t like any of Dorothy Callahan’s other books but, it is just as good if not better. As always, Dorothy Callahan tells a story in a way that makes you not want to put the book down until you are finished. Her books are also reasonably priced which is perfect for avid readers. With a great story at a great price, you can’t go wrong.

I don't think I released a breath while reading this dramatic, emotional story. I felt like a nosy neighbor peeking in the windows and gaping at the shocking hidden lives of people who made it easy to care about them. Once I started reading, I couldn't look away. My heart ached for the characters (except for the father...you'll understand!) The only drawback? That the entire series isn't available yet! I'll be counting down the days until I can read everyone's stories. Dying to know what this tragic backstory did to these people, and eager to find out how they overcome such betrayal.

Received this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Totally had me hooked from the first word, and I read it all in one sitting. Wayne in this book is such a jerk and I really was not sorry when he died. The concept of being a liar and cheat is not new, but his callous treatment of his children is almost incomprehensible. Then he turns around and treats his other children with so much love that it boggles the mind that he is the same person.

I actually read "Taken by Storm" first. After reading this Prelude, I totally get why his daughter hated him so much.

I love the way Ms. Callahan writes, and have yet to be disappointed with any of her books.

Dorothy Callahan's Cloudy Skies: A Prelude introduces two families and a ring which portends the arrival of true love and death.

This book, an introduction to the Werner/Warner family, is a rollercoaster ride you don't want to miss! Each scene and chapter depicts the unique journey of each family member, and the importance of the ring - when and where it arrives.

It's clear that Ms. Callahan is preparing us for a series and I can't wait for more!
