Tenn is restless in the days following his victory against the Kin. He wants nothing more than to leave the Guild and get back on the road, to carry out the missive the spirits gave him. But his allies need to rest. Armies need to gather strength.
And, perhaps most importantly, he has a birthday that his partner Jarrett desperately wants to make special.

Tenn: A Runebinder Short Sequel is a short story from The Runebinder Chronicles series written by Alex R. Kahler, which serves as a shot coda or an extended ending for the first book of the series as such this short story should be read after Runebinder.
The short story is set soon after the first book. Tenn is restless in the days following his victory against the Kin and wants nothing more than to leave the Guild and get back on the road, to carry out his mission. However, his allies need to rest and he has a birthday that Jarrett, his partner, wants to make special.
Tenn: A Runebinder Short Sequel is written moderately well. There wasn't much meat to this story, but it was a quick read and it is short and sweet. The narrative is rather simplistic and straightforward and shows a nice insight to the romantic relationship between Tenn and Jarrett. The narrative shows very little of worldbuilding or rather filling in the pieces that made the world quite ambiguous in the series opener.
All in all, Tenn: A Runebinder Short Sequel is a moderately written short story about the relationship between Tenn and Jarrett as they celebrate Tenn's birthday. It is also a good addition to The Runebinder Chronicles universe, albeit it is not necessarily needed to be read.
I liked it - but it's been so long since I read the first book (somewhere around a year) that too much time was taken up with me wondering who these people were and what they were doing. And trying to piece together the events in the book from the few remarks that were made here. So, yeah, either don't wait as long as I did to read this or have a better memory.
I love that the author did a short story while we wait for the sequel! It was short, emotional and very sweet. Something I can reread quickly right before diving into the next one when it comes out!
Great novella to give a small less serious respite from the harsh seriousness from the first book. Certainly a must read before moving on to Runebreaker!
Really quick read. Had it read in about 20 minutes.
