Losing power was only the beginning, now one couple must work together to survive.
James and Marla Weller lead normal lives in their quaint St. Louis suburb. But on one seemingly uneventful Friday morning, everything changes in an instant after an aerial blast causes a massive blackout through their city. Stranded at a gas station, James discovers that the power grid isn't the only thing disabled. His car and cell phone won't work either, and he's far from the only one. News travels of a bomb threat downtown where his wife is working, and James must get there by any means to find her. His dangerous journey is only the beginning of a mass evacuation that follows. Can he save Marla in time, or will they be unable to escape the imminent threat that looms over them? Find out how the story begins in the exciting prequel of a real-world disaster come alive.
But stick with it. If you're a fan of this genre no surprises to be held in this book of the series. Character development starting and tension mounts.
The story line held my attention from page one. Sometimes you just wanted to jump in the page and shake a character. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
This is definitely a 4 star read. I did not expect the second chapter to turn into the story line. It got me intrigued instantly. With an expected EMP lighting up the town causing a major power outage that not only consisted of electricity but cell phone and modern vehicles to stop in place. James was supposed to be going on a weiting retreat while his wife Marla was on a news story as a reporter when a flash of light changed their lives almoat instantly. Rescue missions on hand for a dire need to get to Marla and be home or in a safe place. Panic advances to anxiety thoughts of how to survive when James and Marla meet the doomsday prepper Larry. Larry tries his best to help save the married couple and decisions about survival choices are needed to be made at the drop of a hat. The ending was left open with so much left unsaid. What was going to happen to James, Marla, Vernon and Rita? Did Larry make the escape he wanted or get blocked by the humvee? All in all, like I said this is a page turner that is hard to put down. I wish there was more to read.
St. Louis is under attack, an EMP taking out the power grid. Looks like a good start to a series.
Note: I got this prequel free and of course read it before starting on Book 1. I hesitated doing this review before starting the main series, and am glad I did. There are big discrepancies between the prequel and book 1. The Trans Am went from a '78 model to an '82, the newsmen just sort of get lost in Book 1, among other things. Not so sure the prequel is necessary if the main story is to have continuity.
There are numerous EMP novels available, BUT this work deserves the attention of all post-apocalyptic adventurers. It is a definite CAN’T PUT DOWN-er. The reader will feel that they are along with the characters experiencing what they are and anxious to know — what could possibly happen next. Hideaway Book 0 never fails to excite and captivate.
This book really draws you in with an interesting story. It has a turn of events that is more than possible in our lives. It is a tease that really makes you want to find out what happens next. I am looking forward to reading the next book. I am currently trying to find it for Kindle.
This book huts close to home, because this could happen. I laid awake thinking if something like this were to happen in the US. I'm going through my mind everything I need to survive just in case it did happen. Makes you think m
I couldn't stop reading and my mind was filled with questions, could this happen, how prepared am we if anything happens. I haven't read anything this captivating in a long time. I can't wait to finish this and have my husband read it!
This was the introduction to the series and if I didnt have the whole series I would maybe have given up due to one of the characters and how she reacts to things. Overall good start.
The narration was good as always and you can escape into it.
The timeline didn't track well, but the characters and environment are good. Stopped the sample in a good spot! I did but the first book so I could learn what happens.
I really enjoyed this book. I started reading another book in the series but I think I'm out of sequence but if you enjoy this type of story line you should enjoy this series.
I didn't realize when I started this book that it was so short. Very fast-paced; some of the characters are a bit annoying, but I liked it and it was a quick read. I rate it 4.7 stars.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Really good intro to a series. This is the event. Multiple explosions in different cities. The sky changing colors with a boom followed by EMP effects. The initial exit from the city. Very cool.
