The Unbreakable Curse

Rate this book

Thalia Brennan’s destiny is one she doesn’t understand. As a cursed immortal, she was banished from entering heaven years ago. When paradise is out of reach, one must bargain away their fate.

Recruited by a corrupt archangel named Ereziel, Thalia must fight her way back into heaven and find a way through the gates of purgatory. Tasked with killing souls so vile, their darkness must be extinguished and collected as currency back into heaven. Thalia gains an unfortunate reputation as a blood-thirsty, self-destructing mercenary.

When one of vile souls tells her she’ll never be able to buy her way back into purgatory to reach heaven for she is not from either kingdom, she doesn’t believe him, even when he gifts her a locket he claims belongs to her. Killing him only brings the wrath of all the orders of demons and archangels in the city. Barely escaping their clutches alive, she must hustle to discover what the locket does and to confirm if a legendary realm outside of heaven, hell, and earth truly exists.

Accursed Archangels is a breakneck young adult urban fantasy adventure series which will appeal to readers of paranormal romance, vampires, reverse harems, angels, demons, and supernatural lore.

This couldn’t maintain my attention. It is decently written, and the storyline has merit, however, I didn’t particularly like Thalia’s character, nor identify with her goals and her apparent lack of knowledge, despite her hundreds of years on earth.

A fast paced, action packed story of self discovery that will have you on the edge of your seat. It has angels, demons, intrigue, battles, heartache and some romance. Thalia is a strong female lead who you quickly become attached to as you as you follow her on her journey to discover who she really is. The slight cliffhangerish ending leaves you dying for the next book. I received this copy from the publisher. This in no way influenced my review and all opinions expressed are solely my own.

Having read quite a few of this author's work I was positive that I would really enjoy this book when I started it and I adored this book, falling under its spell very quickly. I have to say that its my favourite one yet and I can't wait until the next book comes out to see what happens next in this world full of Magic and mystery.

The way that this storyline is written is outstanding, it's is so vivid in it's many descriptions and it pulls you along for the ride. It very quickly got me hooked in the story and there's so much that i want to say in this review hut because there are so many twists, turns and surprises in it I would end up giving something away which I don't want to do as every surprise is a shock and jaw-dropping making the story even better!!!!

I loved all of the characters in this book, I normally have one or two favourites but due to how well these characters have been created and written makes me love them all, even the ones that are not so nice. As You are reading about them, you just want to know more about them, their lives and their pasts. I am so looking forward to reading more of them in the next book.

As always with this author's work I can't rate this book highly enough and this book is well worth the 5* rating I have given it. It is a major page Turner set in a complex world with engaging characters and a compelling world that readers will want to be part of. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this!!!!

Urban fantasy just doesn’t appeal to me anymore. This is why I’m scared to reread series like Twilight because I’ll probably hate it the second time around.

I liked the ending and it made me want to go and get the second book of the series. I’m curious about how Thalia’s story will turn out.

Book 1 is dominated by male characters and I’m wondering if it has to do with archangels. I would’ve loved to see some more strong female characters in the story other than the Thalia.

WHY?!?

I wasn't sure where this story was going to go. I thought one thing, but it definitely did not take me to where I thought it would!

You follow Thalia, through her daily life. Get to know her a bit before she's hit with a whammy and thrown into the craziness :-O

I love it and need book 2 RIGHT NOW!!!

Thalia Brennan is an immortal bounty hunter who works for the corrupt archangel, Ereziel. She goes after and kills the most evil and vile of immortals for him and the bounty she collects is another soul as a bargaining chip to help her buy her way into purgatory as her first step before reaching heaven. When on assignment killing a particularly heinous demon, Thalia is surprised when he gives her a locket that he claims is hers and tells her it's a key to where she's really from. Thalia sets off with her blacksmith friend to discover the meaning of the key and what realm it opens the door to.

I really loved reading this book! It was so much fun and took me on a wild ride filled with magic and adventure!
The story is fascinating it grabs your attention from start to finish and in just a few hours I has it read and wanted to start over from the beginning to read it again!
It's a magical story filled with tales of humans, angels, and magical worlds!
The main character Thalia grew up and was trained as a mercenary and on one of her missions her victim gives her a locket that says belongs to her and it's a key to get her back to her true home called the Skein.
As the story continues Thalia finds out her keeper lied to her for years and things were not as she believed.
It really is an exciting story that will get your adrenaline pumping and you will flip the pages faster and faster to find out what happens next!
The author did a fantastic job and I cannot wait to find out what happens next in book two!

Thalia is a demon hunter, a collector of evil demon souls, and the only reason she is, is because she was denied entry to heaven when her parents were accepted. She found herself back on earth in her seventeen-year-old body, immortal, and an archangel by the name of Ereziel found her. He trained her, he made love to her, which was about the closest she believed that he could love, and he bonded with her. Now, because she believed in what he had told her, she needed to collect these evil souls to use them to pay her way into purgatory so she could finally make her way to paradise. But her current target told her she can never buy her way back and gave her a locket that he called a key, and it was the only way she could go back home. Now she is hunted herself, not only for killing her mark but for the locket itself. She had to find out the truth somehow.

The world-building almost allowed me to visualize places described within, and the characters seemed well thought out. The reactions and interactions seemed just like a seventeen-year-old but one that has lived on earth and done more than, well than, almost everyone alive. There was a bit of disconnect there and like a true to life teenager, the heroine seemed to always have sex on her mind. Even though these incongruities gave me pause, I still liked this story very much.

I give this magical tale of supernatural fantasy, magic, and science five stars out of five stars.

Eh, not for me.

The first page, I was intrigued and liking the writing style. Then it became ridiculous. I made it 27% in before throwing in the towel. In that first fight scene, I wondered what the heck was going on. Why did the FMC have batons she was throwing at him, why she let the guy she was killing even speak to her. There were long pauses it felt between her subduing him and then offing him. Plenty of time for him to tell her "nonsense" when she never knew him nor had a reason. It wasn't organic at all.
Then the ex, her boss... I felt nothing about their breakup and old relationship. I think it's because they barely even spoke during that scene.
So now I'm bored. She goes to speak to some other bad guy, and it's dull as heck. Even the fight that breaks out. Boring.

Dialogue blows in this book. Scenes feel forced. FMC's ego is too big for her britches. Her external behaviors and actions versus internal thoughts are so at odds she might as well be bipolar.

OMG!!!! Action Packed Amazing

OMG!!! Alexia has done it again and kept me on the edge of my seat. Of course there is a lot of information to learn about Thalia and we learn all about the life she has forgotten, or didn't know. Every page she is up against a battle with someone and you just hang on for the ride.

You follow her thru her journey and you try right along side of her who you can trust. You will find yourself crying as you feel your heart breaking along with hers. And before you know it you will be yelling and throwing things at the author. Of course they need to be some things cause I would like Alexia to remain unharmed to finish the next book....lol

You will be on the edge of your seat with me, not wanting to miss a minute.

Until Next Time.... Tabi

Thalia, 17, still a child, or was she? We start with a frantic chase through crowded streets, the male she was chasing getting away from her, or so he thought. This is the story of Thalia, soul collector, it starts with the death of a demon inhabiting a human male, introducing her to a world beyond the realm. A locket, a key, a mystery to solve, the men in her life, who to trust or not. Archangels, help or hindrance? You decide. The book was good with lots of twists and turns, hoping to provide the answers to many questions. I enjoyed the book, it was very good. If you like a mystery, with magic, angels and demons thrown in, I recommend you read it. The first book in the Accursed Archangels series. A*****

An unbreakable read!

Banished from paradise, she'll risk it all for one last chance to return...

Honestly, I struggled with this book which is the reason why it took so long for me to finish it. The book is written in third person and I don't mind books in third person but this one was just not working for me at all.

It was an alright and enjoyable read. Not that exciting. Good writing and characters. I will continue reading the series because I love reading books from this author.

I feel so disappointed with this book so my expectations for book two is low but I am really hoping it gets better!

Full of angels, archangels, demons, curses, powers and action.

Perfect for readers of urban fantasy romances.

Interesting

Thalia is a mercenary. She is Ereziel's killer of evil souls. He told her the only way she could get into heaven was by collecting souls. Drexel is an Archangel, one of many bound to earth forever. Heaven closed its hated to them. They have essentially been kicked out without a way back in. Thalia has no memory of her life before. Just bits and pieces of pictures sailing across her mind.

Matt, a blacksmith, makes weapons for her and one day, presented her with an Archangel killer. Interesting that. On one of her hunts, she killed a demon, who told her she was not of the earth and told her to take a locket. Seems like everyone and their brother now want this locket. A key?? To the skein realm?? Sure

It's an interesting ....

A fast paced action packed story following Thalia's journey to find out who she really is. This is not your common story of discovery, this one involves Angels and Demons and otherworldly creatures. I really like Thalia as a female lead, she is strong and stubborn. I am not an insta love fan so my only negative in this story is how quickly Thalia falls for a guy - she's all into one guy and then all of the sudden this ninja pops out of nowhere and she feels like she can't live without him - Thankfully that is a very small part of the story so it did not effect my overall view. The story did end on sort of a cliffhanger so I am truly looking forward to book 2!!

Thalia is a strong heroine that kills evil souls in order to get into heaven. Erezial is an archangel that tells her whom to kill, was her man for a time years ago. Matt is a great metal worker that makes her weapons, she feels something for him but is afraid to try a relationship. He makes her a new weapon that can hurt angels, that ends up putting him in harm's way. Matt and Thalia go on the run, searching for answers to her past. I really like these two and hope that they end up together.
Alexia Purdy is absolutely amazing in her storytelling! This adventure is great and keeps you wanting to read more.

I hate to be that person. It’s rare that I stop a book mid-way through, as I like to give them a chance. Even if it doesn’t get there in the end, at least I’ve seen it through. This is one of the few books that I have given up on partway through, and I’m not really certain that I can pinpoint why. It just didn’t get there for me, and I got a bit bored with it. I may give it another go in the future, and see if it was maybe just a mood thing (we’ve all got to be in the mood to read certain books). If I do, and I love it, I’ll definitely revise my review, but for right now, I guess I’m the bad guy.

Another book that started off strong but then lost the plot.. the female lead (Tahlia) started off well, but there was no character development and she somehow seemed to become more immature as the book progresses.
It was a bit weird how everything was just conveniently given to Tahlia. As soon as she needed something, a mysterious stranger suddenly had the answers! And the key! And ninja skills to save the day! It was a bit ridiculous.
I started skipping sections and just reading parts to get the idea as was a bit over it by the end. Will check out the next book just to see what the labyrinth is like out of curiosity.

The thing I like about this author is her uncanny ability to make a story awesome. As always her characters here are strong and opinionated as any of her female characters usually are. Single minded in her goal she does all she can to find answers and meets a few allies at different points along the way. This is by no means a standalone read. The world has been set up. You are introduced to it in the full on action this book is full of. And the anticipation for the next book is high. I can't wait for more.

Heaven is locked down but one immortal girl is trying to get in so she can see her family. After years of trying she finds out she's actually from another world and might be the only on that would be able to find a way. Not a bad start.

But, the writing style had no feeling and to be honest...I was rooting against Thalia pretty hard by the end of the book. She was just a brainless barbie doll who took on the personality and beliefs and whatever pretty face was speaking at the moment. She was also super whiny, selfish and bratty, I couldn't deal with that.

This is an excellent start to a series with a story unlike anything I've ever read before. This story of Thalia and her quest to find out why she is immortal and how to enter heaven where her family is kept me riveted all the way through. I loved all the action and mystery. It kept me on the edge of my seat as I rooted for Thalia to solve the mystery of her existence. I can't wait to get the next book.

Loved this book!

Alexia Purdy has continued her great writing with a new series, that was under-put-downable. I loved Thalia and her journey through this book. She was tough and kick-ass, yet vulnerable at the same time. Ending on a cliffhanger, it has left me craving more of this story.

I thought this was a decent story. It had lots of action, but I thought the story was a bit flat, slow. I really like Alexia's stories, but I honestly couldn't wait to get finished reading this story. I'm not sure what could have made it better for me. It just felt like it was missing an essential element. Maybe book 2 will change my mind on this one.

Oh my gosh....if you don't like cliffhangers, wait for the next book.
I must admit, when I got to the end..........but wait, what happens then????
Talk about getting hooked up in a story. I loved this.
What a Pratt her "Boss" is!
Why must she...... and how many.......are needed to be able to go .........???
Hang on, if I am not ......then what am I??

Dive in and enjoy The Unbreakable Curse!

An Interesting Read

I enjoyed the storyline. It definitely keeps you guessing with lots of twists and surprising revelations. She really has been thrust into a world that she doesn’t understand and consequences of her actions endanger her future. you don’t know who to trust. The ending leaves you with quite a cliffhanger.

Quick freebie read. The world is interesting, but the characters aren’t. I just didn’t really care and kept hoping they would grab me. The last third of the book I skimmed a lot, the author is just too wordy. I couldn’t take anymore of the hero’s endless internal monologue. I won’t be reading anymore of the series.

What a fantastic fantasy. I read this in one day, couldn’t put it down. Magic, archangels, demons and best of all a feisty female. Thalia is one formidable female. Cannot wait for the next book I the series. Another author on my must read list. Highly recommended must read.
