This is not a simple meditation book--this is a beginning-to-end scholarly discussion of what each passage means. For some who take the Bible literally, this book might be discomforting, for Fr. McBride has researched the source of the stories, and has discredited some as inaccurate or completely false. He analyzes the meanings of the original linguistics, the geography of the Holy Land, the culture of Jesus' time, and the many studies since then which have enhanced the Gospel narrative way beyond the truth. I for one am very grateful to learn the stripped-down truth. And, as always, I love the way Fr. McBride preaches and writes in gorgeous, flowing, carefully-crafted prose.
