Incantatory and hypnotic readings of original poetry, as well as bilingual versions of her translations of Odysseas Elytis.Olga Broumas was born in Greece and was trained in Architecture and the graphic arts. Her first book of poems Beginning with O, won the Yale Younger Poets Award in 1976. She has published several collections of poems and translated the work of Odysseas Elytis. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation.
Olga Broumas' poetry wears its influences on its sleeves from the Greek myths to the American South. I like how erotic some of her poems are so I may read Beginning with O next. Several poems from the second half of the book explores darker themes from poverty to trauma.
