The Secrets We Keep

Rate this book
Tragedy changes us. Secrets bind us. Love heals us.

When Gaea Lee leaves Brown State University, she has no plans of looking back. After all, besides a degree, what else has it given her besides a heartache she has yet to heal? Coming from a life of privilege, you would think Gaea is living a life of luxury, but no amount of privilege can save you from heartbreak. Getting your heart broken changes you, but Gaea is determined to heal; so she pours her life into healing, being happy, and forgetting a beautiful night that changed a friendship with her best male friend forever. But is that enough to change the longing for her friend?

When Kwame Jacobsen leaves Brown State University, he’s all set up to enter the draft. He’s set up to take care of his family for life, but did that really take precedence over the happiness he was seeking? Although times have changed, he can’t seem to get past a night he shared with his best friend. No amount of success can dull the ache of what he feels he’s missing. When a ghost from his past surfaces and threatens his livelihood, will he be strong enough to withstand the pain of his secrets, or will he crumble?

When tragedy strikes, Gaea and Kwame are forced to work together. Can they get past the night they shared? Can a secret that Gaea has kept keep Kwame from truly trusting her? Or will the ghost of Kwame’s past doom them?

I think this was as pretty good book. I loved the storyline as it kept me interested all the way until the end. I am pretty sad to find out it was the end. As the story may have been summed up in one book had parts of the book not dragged on. I will probably read the next book in the series. There were some errors in the book that were hard to overlook. All in all, I would recommend this book to others.

Fire

I am in love with this book. What a great read Britt. You executed this story well. You only had about 2 errors, but they don't stand out. All I want to know is WHERE IS THE BABY? I know part 2 is on the way. Hurry up ma'am. I love the history that you gave us about your characters. It's wasn't long and drawn out. It was comical and kept me interested. I think we all had some "I can relate" moments. Honey, and those mothers; I CAN'T STAND THEIR TALES! I wouldn't be surprised if they had anything to do with or knew anything about baby girl's disappearance. I enjoyed reading your book. Great job!

Great Debut Novel

First of All great debut novel , Anywho Can we please just off Aaron psycho stalker ass... I need Gaea to let that hurt go so she can receive all that good soul stirring love Kwame has to offer. The moms can both find a island and get lost because part of Gaea problem is the fact she has mommy issues that contribute to her identity issues but Baby I can't wait for Gaea to find herself so she can set each and everyone of those heffas straight especially for testing her inner gangsta by touching her baby .... So I'm impatiently awaiting part 2 !!!!

Nice

Just get rid of the parents, his dad, her mom they are pitiful. Gaea has secrets, Kwame is affected by those secrets and Aaron is a f-boy. I know Kwame had a lot going on, practicing to be great in the league, but he could have tried just a little bit more to reach Gaea. Just 1 phone call!? Nice debut, hopefully part 2 gets to the root of the parents issues

Great Job Britt!!

First this was amazing and I’m mad at the ending as I am impatient and don’t want to wait for the end. As your first book it was amazingly written, great characters and they had a lot of depth that you conveyed without going on a rant. You are amazing and a huge inspiration for me. Way 2 Go girl!!! Now hurry up with part 2!!

Great debut

Girl! Why did you end it like that, got me sitting here clutching my pearls. Aaron needs to go and so does Max. I love Kwame and I hope Gaea can get over her past and let him love her. Please let Kynsley be okay. I can’t wait to read part 2 as well as anything else you write.

Loved It

This book was really good and I enjoyed reading it from beginning to end. Great storyline and it flowed nicely. Definitely fits the title perfect. So many secrets that causes drama to unfold. The question remains Who is Lissete Toussaint and what happened 3 years ago that her anger still lingers for Gaea. Can't wait for Part 2. Great job Britt Joni.

Great Read!

Involves everything! Love, hurt, pain, distrust, etc. Well worth the time to read this! Hoping to eventually read the continuation of this story… I want to know what happened with Kynsley? Did they get Aaron? Who, exactly, was the mystery lady at the hospital? So many questions that need answers…

Wow

This was a really good read but this book could have been a stand alone novel . Certain aspects of main characters didn't make sense to me especially if they were supposed to be best friend or four years.

Secrets can be bad or good. Gaea had no plans to look back after leaving college. Gaea wants to heal her broken heart. Kwame is off to play in the NFL, trying to make a better life for his mom and sister. Kwame is doing well, but he can’t stop thinking about Gaea. Gaea and Kwame are joined back together. This was an awesome story. Need more…

Great book, a little slow moving though

First of all, I do NOT like Gaea! She is obnoxious, selfish, mean and stubborn. I do not like how she treats Kwame. The very fact that he loves her unconditionally is valiant. He’s a stand up guy. I hope Anais lets her guard down enough for Tobias to love her.

You got it

Britt keep up the good work. I can’t recall spelling errors, you used words and expressions that are mature and not for a 14 year old reading. I love Flash and Gaea but the princess is my favorite. Can’t wait for part II

Mind blowing

5 stars from me because once I started to read this book, it was hard for me to put it down and not wonder what will happen next. The writing style was smooth and the flow of the storyline was great, I look forward to reading part two. Oh yes, I will recommend this title to the next person and thanks for the entertainment God Bless.

Drama from the first page!

Wow this one has me all in my feelings! Gaea and Aaron were not meant to be, this was evident from the beginning. Her and Kwame started off as friends but one night changed all of that! That conniving Maxwell ooh I really wanted him dealt with. We are left hanging regarding Kynsley, I am anxious to dive into part 2 and hopefully a happy ending to what has become one of my favorites! Great job so far Britt Joni!
