Anya Bast is the author of numerous works of romantic fiction, mostly all paranormal and mostly all scorching hot. She lives in the country with her husband, daughter, eight cats, a dog, and an odd assortment of rescued animals.
She grew up in Minnesota and still favors the colder climates. After high school she moved to the southeast United States where she attended college. While in graduate school she sold her first book and decide to pursue her lifelong dream of writing instead of a career in psychology.
Somewhat reclusive by nature, she can be drawn out with a good bottle of red wine, classic movies, or good music. When she’s not writing, she can be found trying to grow organic vegetables, shopping in thrift stores for that perfect piece of clothing, or dreaming about travel to some faraway country.
She’s hard at work on a brand new series for Berkley Sensation right now, while winding up her national bestselling Elemental Witches quartet.
I have read a lot of erotic novels, but there is just something about the way Bast writes, that draws you in and keeps you hooked. I tumbled upon her books by accident, and it was the best ever erotic that I've read.
The historical angle with lords and their hedonistic courts have been created so beautifully, that the story is almost mesmerizing. Gives birth to new fantasies, while at the same time holding onto that thread of romance and love.
From the first book, "Winter Pleasures: The Training", I knew this story is about Talyn, Captain of the Nordanese Army, and Raven, the strange girl who was captive of the late Cyrus of Sudhra.
The cover is a giveaway, while all of them thought secluding Raven inside the castle is good for her, she just wants to spread her wings (literally), breathe fresh air and commune with nature. She's an Aviat, an endangered species who are often hunted for their wings.
After Marken and Sienne mated monogamously, Talyn was assured himself that he would never give up the pleasures of the flesh with just one woman every night. Sienne saw the connection between Talyn and Raven and tasked him to watch over her. What Talyn didn't expect is the inexplicable sexual attraction he feels toward Raven especially when he touches her, and she feels the same.
It took a while before Raven fully trusted him and Ms Bast inserted the conflict and mystery when Gavin and Rue entered the scene, wanting to be allied with Nordan against Sudhra for personal reasons. I liked the surprises here and how the Aviat were liberated. The sex scenes were sensual and erotic I appreciate them all.
The epilogue is the prologue of the next story, which I'm now reading. Summer Pleasures: The Capture.
This series has caught me off guard. It's the first of this type of story for me. Well I already read the first in the series, what I mean is this is the first time I've read about shifters that are part bird. The whole jumping from a high plateau and sprouting wings has been man's dream forever. I like how the writer tell the story. Your being introduced to an imaginary world and its totally plausible. The two countries that are rival factions are interestingly explained and parallel the Romans in the way they lived in decadence. The other country treated women as objects to be used and discarded. The Aviat people were a minority being killed of for their wings, very few left. Besides all that you have intense, gratuitous scenes of indecent exposure(tried to put it lightly), going on all over the palace. This place is getting busy.
