Two idiots, Leonhard “Rocky” Krauss and Byron “Twig” Schlaeger, escape from a mental institution, Cedar Hill Sanitarium, and go on a murderous rampage. Rocky is a large man suffering from gigantism, and Twig is a foul-mouthed and perverted midget. Separately, they had always been mistreated and bullied, but together, they are unstoppable, unleashing sadistic and barbaric acts of violence on the assholes of society.
Warning! This is an extreme-horror/ splatterpunk story that contains adult content, including, but not limited to: profanity, sexuality, brutality and obscenities. If you’re not a seasoned extreme-horror reader, it’s highly advised not to embark on this journey. It will save you distress and me a negative review.
Wade H. Garrett is an American novelist specializing in the extreme-horror and supernatural genres, and he primarily writes about vigilante justice and tales of retribution. He was born and raised in Texas, and currently resides in Hamilton, Texas.
Wade uses extreme violence and the most abhorrent and disturbing combination of visceral words to get his point across. He pushes the boundaries of human torment and suffering, and his books should only be read by the seasoned extreme-horror reader.
Many of Wade's fans have said his books are original, thought-provoking, and some of the most graphic literature they've ever read.
Wade's writing can be very technical and detailed at times. This is a reflection of life experiences combined with his technical knowledge and abilities.
He's published by German publisher, Festa-Verlag, under their extreme category. He also sells paperbacks, Kindle books and audio books on Amazon.
Insane Bastards is definitely a good title for this book. This book made me realize that I am messed up because I laughed a lot reading this book. The two main characters made me crack the hell up. This book is vile and disgusting full of all kinds of crazy shit . If you are easily offended probably better skip this one lol. This was a disgusting awesome read.
The last time I laughed that much, was when I read Mother Maggot by Simon McHardy.
Insane Bastards is so sick, I couldn’t stop reading and laughing. Twig and Rocky are one of the worst or best duo ever. They are totally crazy.
Insane Bastards by Wade H. Garret is a must read for all Splatterpunk fans. It’s well written, with insane and vile characters who do inimaginable disgusting things. I highly recommend it!!
Holy 16 inch peen that was mental. I thought maybe I'd get a little bored because it's quite a long book but there was absolutely no time for boredom. From the get go it was a crazy train of absolute brutality and wickedness. I need more Twig and Rocky
This book is so much fun. A midget and a large man with a growth disorder escape a mental hospital, leaving behind a path of carnage. It's awesome. I would have never thought to fry someone's head by making them wear a Crock-Pot on their head as a helmet. This book covers all kinds of gore, eating poop, forced incest (hetero and homo), and did I mention all kinds of gore? I love the simplistic writing style that makes it an easy read but also very visual in your head as you're reading. It's kinda funny how most characters get matched to celebrities for the visuals in your head. It's pretty funny when you think of a character as a named movie star then the torture they endure.so much fun. I cannot say enough good things about this book. Intestines ripped out by being raped by a man with an overgrown sex organ?!?! Yep. In this book. Make shift sex change. ?!?!? Yep. In this book. If you read extreme horror/ splatterpunk then YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK
Diminutive Twig and gigantic Rocky have just made their escape from Cedar Hill Sanitarium. They are out for a joy ride, and there is nothing innocent about their adventures. The two friends are out for all the sex and violence they can handle. Many of their victims do not survive the brutality inflicted upon them. This book has no limits. Twig and Rocky torture and/or kill any person they encounter. Their violent methods are absolutely sick and nauseating, and the action does not let up until the very end. If you are searching for a repulsive and graphic horror story, look no further. Twig and Rocky want to buy you some ice cream.
Wow, it was clearly one of the most disturbing book I've read, the torture scene were so clear in my head. It was disgusting as fuck too. I'm just a bit sad by the lack of story, but I'm still giving it 5 stars because goddamn, that book was something else.
This was described as the most disgusting book ever. SPOILER READER: it is just that. When I grow up I want to write something as disgusting and depraved as Insane Bastards by Wade H. Garrett. This authors work was recommended to me in a facebook group I'm in and after reading this one, I'm annoyed at myself for waiting so long.
Insane Bastards is everything you could want from an extreme horror/splatterpunk story. Blood, gore and an undercurrent of satire that makes you feel guilty for laughing.
Sometimes you just really need to ask yourself, Why??? What was the Point? Was it worth it ? What did i gain from this ? Who even said i had to do it ? Why do i do it to myself??
It was just a badly written torture porn.
i found this book on disturbing book iceberg. tbh the most disturbing thing about this book is lack of proper grammar and repetitive vocabulary.
(It has alot of r*pes and murders, but repetitive nature of this book makes you uninterested and bored .)
I finally got to read my first book by Mr. Garrett.
I noticed that most people recommended Glimpse as a steppingstone, but that’s a big series (with a new one almost released) and I knew I’d get stuck in for the entirety.
So I chose Insane Bastards, based on the synopsis, which sold me as soon as I read it.
Escaped psychos, nuthouses, savagery, abuse, revenge, payback’s a motherfucker. The perfect ingredients for a splatterhouse story.
I was stoked to begin this tale, I love the “extreme” horror genre more than any other I think.
And when I dove in, that’s exactly what I expected to get.
A chapter or so into it, and I wasn’t sure what the hell was going on. The story/characters weren’t confusing, not at all, instead, this was a building realization that calling Mr. Garrett’s story “extreme horror” is like calling Rompeprop “hard rock”.
It’s not extreme horror. It’s beyond that. Mr. Garrett has (purposely?) created his own genre. I’m not sure what to call it yet. (I’m thinking Gorno, Gorn, or Gornography).
It’s an amalgamation of Bizarro, Splatter, and oddly enough, dark humor. I’m not a fan of “funny” horror. I think comedy mixed with horror is an aberration.
(Hey, watch this happy sad movie! Hey, read this fictional non-fiction book! Hey, cook me a frozen pizza, set the oven for hot cold) Sound absurd? That’s what saying “funny horror” is. Absurd.
Yet this was funny in a completely different way. And it was unexpected (for me) and fucking hilarious. I laughed deeply, and loudly throughout the entire book. At least every other page. It woke up my wife, who had to work early the next day. She was pissed. I couldn’t help it. I blamed it on Wade. She even made me leave the room when I told her I was going to keep on reading.
The banter between Twig and Rocky is so perfectly done, that I don’t know how to even describe it. Not in a way that would do it any justice anyhow.
I hate to drop another author’s name in a review, but in this situation, it’s the only way to explain what all of my incoherent thoughts can’t.
Edward Lee. The Big Boss. If you’re reading Mr. Garrett, I’m going to assume your familiar with Mr. Lee’s existence.
This story is what would happen if you took a brutal Edward Lee book, and injected it with too much methamphetamine. Directly into its balls.
Way over the top gore. The kills are all original, disgusting and frequent. Twig does things with a severed penis that no author has ever come close to conceiving.
The constant sexual abuse and victimization committed by Rocky and Twig during their adventure is appalling. No remorse. No repent.
Vulgarity has a new standard. Insane Bastards is that standard.
"Extreme horror" is not an excuse for bad writing. The absurd characters in this novel are so one-dimensional and generic that they're like caricatures from a cartoon. I could only get through about 20% of the book before I got fed up with it and deleted it off my kindle.
I love horror, and splatterpunk is hard to find on Kindle Unlimited, but you can't just put "Extreme horror" on the book and then think that people will accept any old garbage. At least this book appears to be professionally edited, unlike garbage from other hacks in the genre like Matt Shaw who just releases his first drafts. Matt Shaw is terrible but at least he writes characters that seem like real people and not absurd caricatures from a cartoon.
Also, someone should probably teach this author the difference between telling and showing. I could pretty much tell from the first page that the book was going to be bad.
If you're a fan of gross sadistic horror, then welcome to this book. This is by far my favourite author, he's not afraid to go all the way, even if offends. Please just go for it, it's worth it.
Extreme Gore! Horror! And Disturbing! Not for everyone! Read with caution, not for the faint of heart. I absolutely loved it!!!Even though I found myself covering my mouth at times. This is the first book that I have read from this author I believe but I’m definitely going to try another to see if he should be added to my favorites list. This read was phenomenal.
I came across Wade Garrett one day and I thought I would give one of his books a shot. I've never read any "extreme horror" books and considering the things I like I thought this would be an awesome read. I only gave it a two because it's not bad, but there were some things I didn't like throughout the book that kept drawing me out of it. I read some of the reviews and was intrigued after everyone kept saying how gory and disturbing and horrible the book is. However, it wasn't as gory as I was expecting, plus it wasn't very detailed when it did get to that point which was a little disappointing. One of the things that I didn't like was that instead of describing, Garrett compares someone to a celebrity for example. The murder/torture scenes were a little repetitive as well. It's also really heavy on dialogue, which isn't a bad thing, some people like that I'm just not one of those people. I do realize the banter between Rocky and Twig is stylistic though. This would inspire a good slasher I think. I can totally see these books as movies having a cult following. However, as a book it just doesn't make my top list.
To Garret’s credit, this is a disgusting book, exactly as advertised. There are some very creative methods of torture. There was one scene that physically made me gag. But it’s not well written. It’s longer than it needs to be, and that is painfully obvious due to how repetitive the novel is. It seems one of the points of Insane Bastards is that ableist people have a similar way of thinking and looking down on disabled people, but using the exact same dialogue for each new group the duo encounters is just bad writing. The same scene happens over and over, with far more care being given to the creative methods of murder than the dialogue and characters. It’s not my kind of novel, but even trying to review it subjectively, it’s not great.
“The world is full of assholes” - Twig You know that feeling when you’ve eaten too much cotton candy and gone on a carnival ride? That’s how this book made me feel. It was so much fun but made me feel like throwing up. This is easily Wade’s best and most entertaining book to date, although some would argue that I should be locked up in the Cedar Hill Sanitarium for thinking this is in any way entertaining. I consider myself a seasoned extreme horror reader, but without hesitation, I can say this road trip of debauchery has some of the sickest and most disgusting yet inventive gore scenes I’ve read. I thought this also had the darkest shade of black humour, but this could also be used as evidence towards my Cedar Hill incarceration. While the focus of the book is on the gore scenes, there’s enough character development of the two leads to keep it from getting boring and repetitive. What elevated this to the next level was Tom Beyer’s reading on the audiobook of this novel. Tom’s gleeful narration of such disgusting content feels like being read a children’s bedtime story for damaged adults. I was impressed with the varied repertoire of voices he used where each character was distinctly different and identifiable. But, learn from my mistakes and keep the windows up when listening to this in your car. Although I received this for free from Wade, I would happily pay for it and highly recommend it to others looking to dip into the deep end of the gore pool.
Wade H. Garrett continues to hold up his reputation of writing gruesome, disturbing, bloody, violent, and horrifying stories.
Leonard "Rocky" Krauss, now 41, was committed at Cedar Hill Sanitarium when he was 19 being diagnosed with schizophrenia. He has the disease known as giantism. Bryon "Twig" Schlawger, now 37, was committed when he was 12 for hacking up his parents with a meat clever and was diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder. He is also has a disease known as dwarfism. They both were mistreated and bullied their whole lives and when they finally break free, then all hell breaks lose. I found it funny that Rocky, who a huge guy but now very smart, is taking orders from Twig who a lot smaller then him but, is the brains of the operation. There were some areas in the book that made me cringe. All I can say without giving any spoilers is there is a part with a woman with her time of the month. That's all I can say. I absolutely love reading Wade H. Garrett's books and will continue to do so. Thank you so much for another awesome book!
So this gives a new word for extreme horror. I call it retching horror. I found myself doing this a lot and I was surprised because I have a very strong stomach. I might never, ever eat nachos again. I am that disturbed.
Omg this book is definitely the most depraved thing I've ever read! The banter between the main characters is fun, poor rockys naivety is cute, but the violence/torture that these guys carry out is off the scale! I only recommend this one if you absolutely have zero triggers and a strong stomach
This book is what nightmares are made of! I hate midgets. Especially perverted midgets. Of course, the main character, Twig, is a perverted midget. Little bastard gave me the creeps. I should have known what I was letting myself in for after reading one of the author’s other novels, Human Cruelty. Very brutal. But funny too.
Wow! What a sick f*cking book. I loved it, especially the banter between Twig and Rocky. There is some really disturbing stuff here, so if you’re squeamish, it’s best you skip it.
5 or 4 stars should be for quality and not just personal taste. I was undecided between 3 or 2 stars for this book but unfortunately I had to go for 2. It is entertaining, if you like the genre, I like the language and the way is written and presented, but this does not make the book worth more than that. The main problem is it looks more like an rpg, the characters move few meters and then a scene in a locked room starts. When they finish with their atrocity they go out, few more meters, and another "rpg fight" starts, with other atrocities. You do not get bored, the book is easy to go through and to the lovers of the genre gives what they are looking for, but is nothing more than that. The ending is actually alright as I was fearing something stupid, and I was pleased about it. I wouldn't say that the characters are flat like somebody said, but the way they are presented leaves us readers having to imagine much more than what we should, they should have been developed more, reducing the "rpg fight" a bit. Another problem is that all these atrocities are mostly just there to entertain us, they do not add much to the characters, now again this might be nice entertainment but does not grant valuable stars. I think the author has potential and knows how to write, but I think he should focus a bit more on developing a story with gruesome acts rather than adding some story around gruesome acts
It's uh... not great. It's silly, dumb, and gross for sure... but I couldn't get over the dialogues. "You're ___ing me!" over and over and over. The Jeanette parts and the head toss had me cackling though.
